Clutch announce Soundwave Sideshows! Maryland’s
favourite sons Clutch have continued to foster a strong relationship
with their Australian fans in 2009, with three releases hitting stores
so far this year, following the launch of their own record label
Weather Maker, locally. Full Fathom Five, a live DVD and CD pack
featuring the full Metro Theatre set filmed in Sydney on their last
Australian tour, a studio LP from the bands instrumental side project,
The Bakerton Group, and most recently Clutch’s 9th studio album Strange
Cousins From The West. It’s been a big year for the band in stores here
in Oz. Next year it’s all about the live show. In 2010 Clutch
return to Australia joining the likes of Faith No More, Jane’s
Addiction, AFI, Placebo, Anthrax and many more for the Soundwave
Festival. And now the band would like to announce their own national
headline tour that will for the first time ever, take them to Western
Australia. Since 1991 the band have been challenging rock n'
roll's limits, and Clutch show no signs of abandoning the unique
experimentation that has defined them. "If you're not learning then
you're retiring," says Neil Fallon. "You've got to take risks to learn,
and there's always something to learn. When you go to your grave,
you're only going to have learned a fraction of what's truly out there.” Clutch will be joined on the road by Sydney powerhouse duo The Fumes.* Strange Cousins From The West and Full Fathom Fiveare in store now through Weather Maker and Shock. Tour dates are: Friday 19th February: The Zoo, Brisbane, QLD Wednesday 24th February: The Gaelic, Sydney, NSW Thursday 25th February: POW Bandroom, Melbourne, VIC Tuesday 2nd March: Amplifier, Perth, WA * with The Devil Rides OutOn Sale November 9th, 2009 via moshtix.

'The Shape of a Heart', the new video for The Devil Rides Out, is now online here. The clip was filmed in the bands rehearsal space by Landswimming, the same production company responsible for their 'Slow Gun' clip of last year. The effects are all "in camera" rather than post production, achieved using some busted-up old '80's TV studio cameras for a trippy retro result. The song 'The Shape of a Heart' is from The Devil's 'Volume III' EP of last year, the final chapter in their trinity of 'Volume' EPs. All three are available to purchase from Stonerrock.com's online store: www.allthatisheavy.com The Devil Rides Out are currently writing for their debut long player which they are set to lay down in December with Alan Smith, who recorded the aforementioned 'Volume III' and is also responsible for recent albums from fellow Perth artists Abbe May, Project Mayhem and Eleventh He Reaches London. The album is set for an early 2010 release.

MONSTER MAGNET with The Devil Rides Out
Metropolis Fremantle
Thursday, September 10, 2009
For many, Thursday night was a show 10 years in the making.
Until last week, Monster Magnet fans had been waiting over a decade for
the stoner rock phenomenon to retrace its steps back to Australia. It
was a long journey for both band and punter alike, but after lineup
changes, drug overdoses, a new album and a hell of a long plane ride,
Monster Magnet proved they were worth the wait.
The whole night
unequivocally proved the cult of stoner, though no more at its height,
has left a mighty legacy in its wake. With fervourish
post-Kyuss-on-coke cool, opening act The Devil Rides Out have it all.
Sound, style and silhouette blend with bad-ass pomp and balls-out flair
to match, now affectionately referred to as ‘boner rock’. It may seem
easy to conflate garage genres to mere rock recitals, but when
listening closely, more subtle qualities that mix old-school guitar
timbre and a Beasts Of Bourbon-esqe blues give more of a definition to
the sound.
It was clear the band, playing one of their biggest
supports to date, easily attracted audience affection, especially after
frontman Joey K’s introduction to The New Idle, making reference to the
now disgraced Kyle Sandilands. The crowd thoroughly concurred when Joey
K let rip that he hoped ‘we’ve seen and heard the last of that cunt’.
By the time The Devil Rides Out reached the powerhouse mid-set track
Right Lane Man, there was a swelling group of newly recruited fans
forming front of stage. If you get to a Devil gig and grab an EP, don’t
be surprised if you are compelled to drive at fast speeds with hot
women. It’s just that kinda thing.
In between sets, it was
noticeable most punters bracing for the cosmic thrill ride to come were
‘way-back’ fans as everyone’s face was pinned to the stage in
anticipation of what they knew to be coming. When the lights dimmed,
the back screen slowly grew and the sonic weirdness started,
‘space-lord motherfuckers’ Monster Magnet engorged Metro Freo. Even
though the venue was far from packed it ceased to matter when the group
exploded like a jack-in-a-box with old-school opener, Dopes To
Infinity.
Immediately appeasing the crowd with some infamous
fodder to start, Monster Magnet continued to shy away from the wares of
the most recent album Four-Way Diablo. Yet what the current album may
lack in once-upon-a-time, cosmic-themed intensity, the live show makes
up for in sheer drive and pace, proving Monster Magnet haven’t lost any
stage lust through the past 20 years of touring. In fact, even though a
little older now than their current industry contemporaries, the whole
band put in a forceful and physical effort, not forgetting bassist Jim
Baglino’s axe wielding move; simultaneously playing and faux
bayonetting the audience.
Perhaps for most fans who waited for
so long to see the act in the flesh again, or for the first time, the
set seemed to be over all too soon, but luckily Monster Magnet are
well-known for their endurance encores and didn’t disappoint when they
finally ripped out a monumental live version of Spine Of God. The New
Jersey boys set back out onstage for nearly another half an hour and
gained momentum until the final note. For a short while they took the
room on a wild trip. If they ever come back, its worth a watch; or in
words perhaps more befitting where they’ve been, ‘buy the ticket, take
the ride’.

" The Devil Rides Out were the ideal opening act for
this evening – in fact, a better match among Perth bands would probably
not be possible. Delivering punch after riff-laden punch to the early
arrivals, it’s easy to see why this band has built the reputation they
have – put simply, they rock. They got a nice long set, being the only
support act on the bill, and impressed both new fans and old." Read the full review HERE.

Current mood: aroused

Once upon a time there were two rock’nroll bands from the land of
sunshine and palm trees who yearned for the open road and all that it
promised. One day, The Devil rode out with a proposal which, on sour
whiskey breath, he whispered seductively in their collective ears...
“Go west young men. There, beyond barren desert plains, you will
find that which you seek… an oasis of punters longing for the real
deal; dirty garage blues and raw hard rock. All I ask of you in return
is your eternal souls… and my name +1 on the door…”
How could they refuse? And so THE BLACKWATER FEVER and BLACK MUSTANG
will leave the bright lights of Brisvegas, in early October to join
WAMi Award winning locals THE DEVIL RIDES OUT for a tour of the west
that promises 3 of the hungriest up-and-coming rock’n’roll bands in the
country on the one explosive bill. It’s The Good, the Badass and the
downright Dirty and it’s going to ROCK.

In their final appearance before launching the new album 'Man, You
Should Explode' nationally in September, The Kill Devil Hills join
forces with those other handsome devils, The Devil Rides Out, for an
evening where too much facial hair is barely enough. Rounding out this
grizzled rock'n'roll threesome will be the fiery sounds of The Smokin
Eldorados, featuring legendary Perth musos Rod Radalj (The Johnnys /
Scientists / Dubrovniks) and Matthew de la Hunty (Tall Tales and True).
Man, this WILL explode.
