Current mood:  bouncy

Reconnection always feels good when you've missed someone or someplace. Such was the experience at the Come on Home album pre-release show at Arlene's grocery in the Lower East Side of NYC on September 28.

Thanks to all who came out and made it a special event. As usual, we took things to another venue after the great show: a pizza place just across the street (which I have forgotten the name of). This seems to be growing into a New York tradition for me. After the show is not the afterparty, but the pizza party!

Good pizza, good conversation, plenty love! Thank you all. And special thanks to Ojay, Jeff, Z, Nera and Nelly, Titi. Sorry Mr "Pizza place owner" for randomly joining tables together and having loud group conversations and laughter. Cheers to many more good times, good shows, good pizza....the CDs are now here!

Hey people,

Want to know how to help? Here are some ways!

- Pre Order the new CD Come on Home at www.kachilive.com/comeonhome.html

- Download my one sheet info at www.kachilive.com/docs/Ka-Chi_Bio_July_08.pdf and send it to clubs, bookers, promoters, and anyone who may even vaguely be interested. Let them know you'd like to have me come perform live

- Represent your city on my eventful page by clicking the "Demand it" thingy on my myspace page at www.myspace.com/kachman

- Download the sampler for the new album Come on Home from my page, burn to CD-R (or distribute online) and again, share with club owners, bookers, promoters, and anyone who may even vaguely be interested, and if they're not, you can shove it down their throat (disclaimer...err...that was a joke :)

- Download the press release for the new album Come on Home at http://www.kachilive.com/Docs/Come%20on%20Home%20Press%20Release.pdf and share it with your local media people.

- You can also call your local radio stations and let them know you'd like to hear my songs played on the radio. I'll be posting a list of radio stations that have recieved the new CD soon.

- Get in touch with your local PBS and NPR stations and let them know you'd like to see/hear a "Ka-Chi" feature.

Those are just a few ways you can assist. Feel free to get extra creative with it.

Thank you all!

Peace..V..

Cashew nuts are my new addiction.

In the past, I've always liked and even indulged from time to time in peanuts, but I never had too much cashew. When I did have it, I enjoyed it immensely, but if I ever went looking for little delicacies of the nuts group, I somehow always reverted back to peanuts.

Anyway, a few days ago at the International food store, I stumbled on this new brand of spicy cashew nuts, freshly bottled in a 750ml sized container. Out of curiosity, I got two bottles.

In just two a couple of days, I'm down to half a bottle. The last few nights, my up-through-the-AM habit has not been occupied by work or play, but by numerous trips to the pantry for just a little more cashew.

The first trip is okay because, "that's what it's there for right?!" The second trip, well "just a little more". The third, "alright these are good, allow my indulgence". The fourth trip, "I'm obviously out of control, and I don't care cos I want more cashew!"...continuously, until I almost have to tie myslef down while the thought of cashew passes over like a cloud.

Okay, I'm dramatizing, but the truth is there: I'm Ka-Chi, and I'm addicted to cashew...or maybe it's just the new brand of spicy cashew nuts freshly bottled in a 750ml sized container from the nearby international food store.

Current mood:  hopeful

A little over a month ago a close friend tried to kill himself, and I witnessed it live, first hand. I haven't shared this with many people, but I suddenly felt the urge to blog about it. I really don't have the answers to a lot of this crazy stuff, all I know is that the more developed we get, the more stuff we have, the more money rules and defines success, the more the pursuit of happiness becomes synonymous with the pursuit of wealth, the more "efficient" and "productive" we get; well, the more we seem to lose our humanity.

I've done a WHOLE lot of travelling in the last year, and I've seen a lot of happy people, but even more pretenders and just plain sad ones with low self esteem. Healthy competition is good, but the struggle to "fit in" seems to be getting ever so competitive. And putting down those who don't fit in seems to be a criterion for getting in. So those left out are not just put out, but also stepped on.

My friend didn't seem unhappy, at least not in public. But I guess he was one of the pretenders, and a good one at that. I sensed a little stress, but nothing as extreme as wanting to "check out early" as grandpa in Little Miss Sunshine would say (no this is not funny, and neither was the movie when you really think about it).

I don't know where I'm going with this, how to end it, or why I even started writing. Just felt the need to let it one way I know how to since I'm not the best talker. But hey, maybe that's what we need, to talk more. I feel like I'm okay if I'm able to put it in a song, but the guy I see on the BART train everyday may have never heard the joyous song of hope I wrote, so maybe I should smile at him and start a joyous conversation. You never know what he is going through.

Please if you read this, think about it. Take a moment to smile and be nice to at least one stranger a day. You never know what kind of hope that will bring, and you may even save a life that way. I'm not asking you to stoop down (even though that's not so bad), but do you really have to kick someone who is already down?

I even heard another friend bragging about how she likes to be mean and an asshole, and that somehow seems to be cool! Sheesh, if that's true then either the world is going crazy or I am, cos that does not seem sane to me at all. I mean, why do we teach morals again?

I guess in the end, I do have a point besides venting, so hopefully someone reads this and gets it. I had to stop booking shows for a short while cos I just couldn't play. I'm gradually starting up though, but if you see me out at a show after reading this, please don't bring it up.

Just do the right thing, reach out a hand, a smile, a word of encouragement, and be good to your neighbor.

Peace & Love (Don't just say it, be about it)

Little Flower, where do you grow?
Little Flower, what do you know?
Little Flower, soon you will grow
Little Flower, then you will know

That the world is unforgiving
So you've got to give strong
But the world was made to live in
So you've got to live strong

Little Flower, where do you go?
Little Flower, who do you know?
Little Flower, soon you'll be gone
Little Flower, go along

And the world is unforgiving
So you've got to give strong
But the world was made to live in
So you've got to live strong
And these eyes were made for seeing
So you've got to look on
And these ears were made to listen
So you've got to heed on

It was one of my favorite cartoons some umpteen years ago... and may be the reason for the speeding tickets, maybe a therapist can tell me. :)

Anyway, I can't go see the opening tonight, so if any of you do, don't spill the beans...just drop me a comment and let me know in your opinion if it's worth going to the movies for. From the previews it looked a little cartoon-ish, but ya never know.

Have a great weekend!

Current mood:  adventurous

The following text is quite lengthy, but worth the read to those interested in this topic. A guy from a spiritual forum recently challenged the existence of Jesus and I provided a response.....

The Jesus Challenge

"...Well, this has been coming up a lot again lately, so let's try this one. The previous Jesus Challenge has still not yielded any results, despite being active for quite a long time now, prayer has failed to move my plum tree any distance closer to the back of my house at all. So I think we can confirm that prayer, can't actually make trees move or get mountains to toddle into the sea. So let's try an 'easier' one.

The new challenge is to provide evidence that the Jesus character ever, actually, lived. Now, I'm going to go over a few of the common rookie mistakes for you to save us the bother of going through them all over again, bear with me...

Now, when it comes to historical characters, as with most things, we're looking for evidence that proves their existence beyond all reasonable doubt. Leeway can be given for antiquity and other issues but we're really looking for something that can really confirm them. With other historical figures of similar age we're looking for multiple documented sources from different viewpoints and archaeological evidence that demonstrates that they exist. For, say, Napoleon, for example, there are multiple portraits from the period, numerous records, the war diaries of generals, the archaeology of battlefields and so forth, all from different sources and viewpoints. For Jesus, here's some problems to avoid:

1. Simply because a lot of people believe something doesn't make it true or real. Lots of people believe many different things, some you might agree with, some you might not, but that a lot of people are, or have been, convinced isn't evidence for something. This is a logical fallacy called 'Argumentum ad Populum'.

2. Simply because people in a position of authority and/or learning say something is so, doesn't make it so. This is an argument from authority, another logical fallacy, while their expertese may help lend credence it is still the actual evidence one needs to get at. So saying 'Scholars agree Jesus existed' is not a good argument unless you can demonstrate the evidence that convinces them.

3. You can't use the bible. This is so for two reasons, firstly it is the source of the claims you're trying to prove and thus is not admissable as evidence, any more than the existence of the Koran is proof of the correctness of Islam or the existence of Dianetics is evidence that the beliefs of scientologists is correct. The second problem is that the bible wasn't written in the alleged time of Jesus nor by the people it is supposed to have been written by. Even if it had been you can't use it......"

Ka-Chi's response

"Jesus did exist.....and you can't say to rule out use of the bible as proof. The Bible is a collection of writings and eye witness accounts. There are many more accounts of Jesus' existence, but only a certain selection were admitted to the Bible. I myself am a little skeptical as to why those particular works were admitted into what is now known as The Gospels while other accounts were rejected, but either way they are eye witness accounts and therefore are admissible as evidence as is the case in any court of law.

The New Testament itself was not collected until around 325 A.D. and there are tons of documentation and evidence of the process that went into the collation of the book. It was all overseen by the Roman Emperor Constantine, and we all know how the Romans recorded and preserved their history. You don't have to digg to deep to find discussions on this. Have you heard of the Niacene creed? Emperor Constantine gathered leaders of the church to discuss Jesus' deity in Niacea in Italy. This is all documented in 4th century Roman history..... a little over 300 years after the death of Jesus. Constantine ordered the leaders of the church to put the Bible together, and they collected these testaments and accounts of the works of Jesus which had been circulating among the christians since as far back as 25 years after his death. Just like we have documents from the forefathers of the united states from almost 300 years ago.

There have also been archeological discoveries of what is believed to be the site of the crucifixion of Jesus, and also the tomb where he was laid. Ron Wyatt was a reputable archeologist who did a lot of research on Biblical stories and unearthed evidence of things as far back as the old testament in the bible. I believe some of his findings were recorded on video and you may be able to do a search ffor it on Youtube.

As for moving mountains and stuff (even though I missed that one), Jesus spoke in parables to illustrate ideas. Sort of like analogies. When he spoke of moving mountains, he spoke in the context of doing the impossible. He was saying that with God, you can get out of situations that you seem stuck in and there is no possible way out. He was not talking about literally asking a mountain to move.
