Alright!
Friday, July 27, 2007
One-man-band action from South of the Border. Chuck V. plays his guitar accompanied by what sounds like nothing but his foot stomping on the floor and sings in a really nasally twang. Entirely in Spanish. The lead-off cut has a nice spaghetti western vibe and the rest of the tunes sound pretty much like what you'd expect a Mexican one man bandito to sound like. Very moody and Morricone-y in parts. Like if Hasil played Django and had a guitar in the coffin instead of a gatling gun. Actually, I think this dude is from Brazil but is just going for the Mexican vibe. I think. Who knows. Looks like a young lad, probably the coolest kid in his neighborhood though. He's got lots of shit up on Myspace if you want a taste. Red vinyl.

Terminal Boredom

Four tracks of honky tonk tex mex punk from a Brazilian guy who used to live in Mexico. Completely crazed and deranged but extremely entertaining stuff that makes you want to eat peyote, howl at the moon and chase senoritas. A must for fans of mad one-man-bands!!! Red vinyl, and sung in Spanish, mucho sexico.

Lowcut

On pourra pister son CD démo intitulé Hijo De Puta From Mexico!.

Dig it!

Amazing debut EP on french label by a mentally disordered one-man-band from Mexico. Blues, folk, punk, tex-mex, tequila, and crazyness. If you dig bad mutha shit like King Louie, John Schooley, Possessed by Paul James, and Scott Biram you can't miss this hijo de puta. Great!

Shake Your Ass Records

Great debut release of this new label from Epagny, France! Chuck Violence is a one-man band from Brazil that reminds me a lot of DM BOB AND THE DEFICITS! Trashy recording, hillbilly country / cajun / blues / whatever that sound like a lot of drinking and a lot of fun! Three of the four songs are sung in portuguese. I don't know where you can get this gem, but I suggest to hassle your vinyl dealer to get this fantastic release for you. Did I mention that it comes on blood red wax?

Choke Media

Rock'n'roll Army Magazine

One man band with a nice rollicking rock'n'roll sound with a mexican twist. Songs are kind of forgetttable but it's still nice. Reminds me a little of DM Bob maybe as far as contemporaries go. He's got a lot of rockabilly influences and that shines through, it's way more loud and the guitar is pretty cool too. Think this would work for people into the obscure rockabilly artists released on Buffalo Bop and Norton. Nice.

Savage Magazine

Some strange things come out of France (and I don't just mean Johnny Halliday.) This four-song EP of hillbilly swing might be the weirdest. Compounding things is the fact that Chuck Violence is a one-man band from Brazil. One-man "band" might be a bit misleading as there's a shortage of multi-instrumentation. Chuck's a bit of a minimalist. Cleanly-recorded with steel string guitar prominent and the percussion limited to foot stomps, it's inoffensive and slightly demented when Chuck breaks into one of his funny voices. Brazil is as valid a place for cowboys to come from with no shortage of pampas.

De nuevo buena edición del sello francés Shit in Can.

Burka For Everybody

Pur Ovni ! (A.F.)
