Goya: Paintor. Trees: Band. At the crossroads of music and the visual, similarities arise, as the mediums forever channel and the medias are intertwined. Perhaps best explained by Plato or Jung, is that somewhere in the ether is 'contrast'. For example: There is Goya's light and his 'darker realms'. This electric power-trio's music and spirit are equally polar, for the lens doesn't lie, nor do our ears. There is Goya's purity and his sharp wit: Herein, our Trees are stripped-back, where Blues-Rock, Grunge and Punk collide; energy and melody in equilibrium. Also, there's Goya the social commentator and acute people-watcher. Similarly, our Trees' lyrics are elegant, truthful and transmitted with power and grace. Lastly, Goya is timeless. This night, original fans respond, new fans are born and the eve is enjoyed by all; we await their next one. Through The Trees are on their way...

Like Fabergé eggs full of dynamite, GOBI explodes. Sweat and spirit, silk and grit, taciturn femmes beckon their call. The groove lays; all else is on it's toes. And as the Poltergeist Arcade summons, they breech the material realm at will, dazzling the living and waking the dead. A new breed of power-trio is born. The pirates proudly witness.

Sunday, Jules and I stopped-by for a few hours. Day turned into night. The archetypal changing-of-the-guard was manifested through verbatim Taoist polarity; the serenade surrendered to the wailing; flowers turned to flames! The forum was alive with dancing angels, awakened by the raw purity of the invocation... The conductor slowed the pace to cool the engine... and this time, I DID have the big Nikon camera, ready for 'The Sign of Fire'. Enjoy! Tony.

Our congratulations go out to the fine folks at Psych Fest II, for a successful first evening. Jules and I arrived just as The Black Angels were opening their set, to a crowd of around 500 diehards, seemingly oblivious to the cold. (There's warmth in numbers). Note: From what I hear, attendance peaked at a much higher number during the day. The three-night event is being held at the not-yet-open Radio Room, as evidenced by the unstained wood in what is one of the nicest indoor lounge areas in Austin, with a large wraparound bench to seat plenty. To the back of the lounge is a merch station replete with 60's-style Forum-inspired collectible posters and t-shirts, influenced by such artists as David Byrd and Bonnie MacLean, including a limited edition event poster silk-screened on heavy stock, and all the trippy coolness of the instantly classic Bland Design line. Exiting the lounge, you see a large tent, to protect the pulsing bands and mesmerized crowd, as the inside of the canopy writhes with the sensual colors of the venerable oil-filter projector. The sound system, clear and powerful fills the air with Native-like drumming, as Steph Bailey marks the ritual's pulse. Fat bass, drone guitars with sad and witty melodies, vintage keys and transistor pedals, twisting sounds from cosmic to caustic; Bland, Ryan and Hunt weave a rhythmic quilt to nestle Alex Maas' voice: Astringent, forceful melodies strewn with social lament and hopes of awakening. A 21st Century tent-revival, South Austin style. And of course, this musical circle switches instruments, old school. Much love goes out to the event organizers, for making us feel safe, warm and welcome on a wet chilly night. I regretted having only a pocket camera, but the snaps turned out alright. Next time, I'm pulling the big Nikon. Thankfully, there will be an official video. Respect, Tony.

We are proud to announce we have just become an official sponsor of Psych Fest II. The 3-day showcase will feature a set of world class bands, in the not-yet-open Radio Room on 6th and Red River. Since we attended last year's event, we are sure it's going to be an audiovisual masterpiece.

Haaar Mateys! There's a lot of good music out there, but every once in a while, you find a gem that hits you like much-needed medicine. Life gets stressful, and your shoulders start feeling tighter than a steel cable holding up a lunch-hour elevator. That gem for me was Daniel Moore... 121 Bar last Thursday was the scene for some Dylan-goes-electric type of shock for my girl Jules and I, as we discovered that the Folk artist we've been vibing-on at home, has a strong live set... All that and a Frangelico for the cold, meant getting back in touch with that innermost part we call home, in a cozy corner of downtown Austin. Midpoint, the set slowed to acoustic, returned to electric and climaxed in an extended rendition of 'All Along the Watchtower', that somehow managed to smartly combine Jimi and Dylan via electric-Moore. They closed with the unreleased yet ever-more-requested 'Left Behind'. The highlight of the eve for me was 'My Worried Mind', with some haunting electric axe that's not on the original track, comprised of volume-swells with delay (a la London school), great for reigning-in the pensive Autumn... So, if you've been feeling cold and tense, melt your worries with the sounds of Daniel Moore, and breathe a peaceful "yeeeah!" Respect, Tony.

Haaar Mateys ! With a grinding pulse that cuts like a broadsword, electro-rockers The Future Process assault with a synth / guitar barrage, tethered to stark yet melodic vocals and pensive lyrics. Their visuals are moody and spectacular, as they light-up the audience with a wicked dose of brain and soul candy. With their upcoming first Texas show, A-Town will be ablaze November 6th @ Elysium. As their fans take to the streets, the faint of heart should stay indoors. From the rumor-mill: 'Tis said they song-write as of late, and will add more gems to their lineup. As their live-work intensifies, expect an ever larger blood-soaked snowball from this dark duo. Cen Tex fans rejoice, some bad-ass electronica is now NATIVE, as these Florida transplants are here to stay! I, your humble commentator, will hit this exciting show dressed in de-rigueur-noir (aka black). Songs, video and more info: thefutureprocess.com | myspace.com/thefutureprocessIN THE STYLE OF: Nine Inch Nails, Filter, KMFDM, Cetu Javu, Ministry, Front 242, Red Flag, Bigod 20, Camouflage.
