On July 6th, Cheap Date Bassist Todd Essex underwent Kidney Transplant surgery at Washington Hospital Center. His donor was his brother, JunkFood drummer Jeff. Todd will be out of work for about 2 months so we are trying to drum up donations to keep him on his feet while he recovers. Even if you can spare a buck, that would be great. If not, just spread the word. We appreciate the support! The e-mail address for Todds PayPal Account is: toddskidneyfund@gmail.com. Just go to the PayPal Website and put the e-mail address in. Please spread the word and help if you can! THANKS!!!

LIFETIME SEASON PASS=
$400 (fully refundable if 2009 season doesn't happen)
--Early entry to each show (15 minutes prior to gate)
--One Gold Circle Upgrade each season (subject to space available)
--Backstage Band Meet & Greet once a season (subject to band terms and agreement, first come first serve)
MUSIC FANS WE NEED YOU TO SAVE THE LOUDOUN SUMMER MUSIC FEST!
For five seasons, the Loudoun Summer Music Fest has built an increasingly popular rock concert series at the Belmont Country Club on Route 7 just east of Leesburg. The event, which began in 2004, has drawn between 30,00 to 60,000 people each year to the open-air concerts on the lawn each season. But it may not return in 2009.
The situation is complicated by the number of 2008 concerts that were affected or cancelled due to rain. "We barely made it to the end of the season," remembers Tracy Parent. "It was the most phenomenal streak of bad luck imaginable."
We have great ideas for ways to improve the season, including moving the concerts to SATURDAY night so more people can enjoy them, but we may not get the chance if we can't get YOUR SUPPORT. In this economy, most potential sponsors are reluctant so it's up to us to make this happen!
If 1000 people buy a LIFETIME SEASON PASS for $400.00 we can move forward with this season and many more to come! ALL MONIES WILL BE HELD IN ESCROW AND REFUNDED IF WE DON'T MEET OUR GOAL!
SO PLEASE, join the cause, buy a pass and pay it forward. We promise to make this the best year ever!
GO TO WWW.LIVEATBELMONT.COM TO BUY YOURS NOW and then send a post to the cause to spread the word!

MUSICIANS ARE EXPERT MIND READERS When requesting a song from the band, just say "play my song!" We have a chip implanted in our heads with an unlimited database with the favorite tunes of every patron who ever walked into a bar and all songs ever recorded, so feel free to be vague; we love the challenge. If we do not remember exactly what tune you want, we're only kidding. Bands know every song ever recorded, so keep humming. Hum harder if need be... it helps jog the memory. If a band tells you they do not know a song you want to hear, they either forgot that they know the tune or they are just putting you on. Try singing a few words for the band. Any words will do. It also helps to scream your request from across the room several times per set followed by the phrases, "AW COME ON!" and, "YOU SUCK!" Exaggerated hand gestures expressing disapproval from the dance floor are a big help as well, such as the thumbs down or your middle finger. Put-downs are the best way to jog a band's memory. This instantly promotes you to the status of "Personal Friend Of The Band." Entertainers are notorious fakers and jokesters and never really prepare for their shows. They simply walk on stage with no prior thought to what they will do once they arrive. An entertainer's job is so easy, even a monkey could do it, so don't let them off the hook easily. Your request is all that matters. If a metal band had played at the club a few weeks ago, the next band that follows will automatically know every metal tune the previous band ever played, even if the current band is a blues or country band. It's the law. Feel free to yell "AC/DC!" or "SLAYER!" to a band that plays strictly originals or jazz for example. Conversely, Deadheads may yell for Grateful Dead tunes at a dance or metal band. IMPORTANT When an entertainer leans over to hear you better, grab his or her head in both hands and yell directly into their ear, while holding their head securely so they cannot pull away. This will be taken as an invitation to a friendly and playful game of tug of war between their head and your hands. Don't give up! Hang on until the singer or guitar player submits. Drummers are often safe from this fun game since they usually sit in the back, protected by the guitar players. Keyboard players are protected by their instrument, and only play the game when tricked into coming out from behind their keyboards. Though difficult to get them play, it's not impossible, so keep trying. They're especially vulnerable during the break between songs. TALKING WITH THE BAND The best time to discuss anything with the band in any meaningful way is at the middle of a song when all band members are singing at the same time. Our hearing is so advanced that we can pick out your tiny voice from the megawatt wall of sound blasting all around us. Musicians are expert lip readers too. If a musician does not reply to your question or comment during a tune, it's because they didn't get a good look at your mouth in order to read your lips. Simply continue to scream your request and be sure to over emphasize the words with your lips. This helps immensely. Don't be fooled. Singers have the innate ability to answer questions and sing at the same time. If the singer doesn't answer your questions immediately, regardless of how stupid the question may seem, it's because they are purposely ignoring you. If this happens, immediately cop an attitude. We love this. HELPING THE BAND If you inform the band that you are a singer, the band will appreciate your help with the next few tunes, or however long you can remain standing on stage. Just pretend you're in a Karaoke bar. Simply feel free to walk up on stage and join in. By the way, the drunker you are, the better you sound, and the louder you should sing. If by chance you fall off the stage, be sure to crawl back up and attempt to sing harmony. Keep in mind that nothing assists the band more than outrageous dancing, fifth and sixth part harmonies, or a tambourine played out of tempo. Try the cowbell; they love the challenge. The band always needs the help and will take this as a compliment. VERY IMPORTANT Remember to allow enough time to make it from the stage to the bathroom in case of an emergency. On stage accidents are bad form. The band will carry on. BONUS TIP As a last resort, wait until the band takes a break and then get on stage and start playing their instruments. They love this. Even if you are ejected from the club, you can rest assured in the fact that you have successfully completed your audition. The band will call you immediately the following day to offer you a position. See you at the next gig ... The Band

Hey all! Seems there are a ton of people writing about JunkFood these days! There's a little writeup on us in todays Fairfax Extra section of The Washington Post. Thanks to C. Woodrow Irvin for the support! The link is here. You can also read it below. Enjoy!
Live! Who: JunkFood When: 9:30 p.m. Saturday Where: Ned Devine's, Herndon, VA
Thursday, November 29, 2007; Page VA10
JunkFood is a band with no illusions about itself. The music the Fairfax foursome makes has little nutritional value, but it sure is delicious. That makes JunkFood just about the perfect bar band. There is no artistic pretension or forced emo moping, just good-time, high-energy, well-played rock-and-roll.
Singer and rhythm guitarist Bart Harris, lead guitarist Paul Schauer, bassist Joe Murray and drummer Jeff Essex have come a long way since their early days as a popular cover band. JunkFood was voted best local band in a 2005 Washington Post readers poll and has released two full-length CDs of catchy original pop rock.
The group's influences read like an eclectic who's who from the rock-and-roll era; Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Van Halen, the Cars, Motley Crue, Prince, Iron Maiden and the Foo Fighters all warrant mentions on the band's MySpace site, the common theme being that JunkFood likes good pop songcraft no matter what rock subgenre it comes from.
JunkFood's albums, 2004's "No Space" and last year's "Below the Charm," together offer 21 songs that make up the greater part of the band's set these days, but audiences new to the group are still likely to find themselves on familiar ground: On any given night, JunkFood is usually happy to offer up some of the cover songs on which they cut their teeth.

JunkFood: How MySpace Helped the Band Get National Attention
By Chris Marcum Published on November 26, 2007 Original Link Here:
JunkFood is a rock/pop band that has been rocking the DC area for the past seven years. The band originates from Fairfax, Virginia, but plays all over the East Coast. The past two years have proven to be very successful for this young band, with performances at DC-area concerts such as Shamrock Fest and Blocktober Fest have helped generate new fans and have kept the old ones coming back. JunkFood has also had great success that has allowed them to play at the famous 930 Club in Washington. This club is very hard to get into and they have even received an invite to come back and play again. They have received local recognition on DC101. JunkFood's latest success comes from the national recognition that they received from a MySpace contest and the pleasure to perform on the CW show Super Natural.
JunkFood has had great success with the help of MySpace. JunkFood won a contest that MySpace held and the prize was an appearance on the CW Network show Super Natural. MySpace held the contest and asked for members to nominate their favorite local bands for the contest. JunkFood entered the contest and made it to the top ten. They were then put on a MySpace page that allowed everyone from the Nation to vote on the best band. It was an exciting day when they received the call that they were the top pick. With over 40,000 nominated bands from the Nation it was an honor to be the Nation's top choice.
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing the lead vocalist, Bart Harris. When we spoke I asked him where he saw the band heading in the future? Bart said, "As far as where we are headed...We don't have boundaries or limitations. We are willing to do anything that makes sense for us. Nothing is too low or nothing is too high to go after if it fits into 'the plan'." Bart went on to say, "We keep our goals realistic because of the changes in the industry. Corporate money drives the decisions in music and we don't waste our energy trying to fight that. We stick to our ideals and principles."
JunkFood is an indie band that is very proud of their last two CD's which they have released all independently. In our interview Bart said, "We have released two professional CD's all independently. We are VERY proud of that. We spent over $20K on our last CD and we didn't finance a single cent. We worked it all off." Their last two CD's "Below The Charm" and "No Space" is the bands break away from just being a cover band to producing their own tunes. You can check out these new tunes from JunkFood on their MySpace page.
Bart and I talked about how the band came to be. He told me that JunkFood was formed seven years ago, but the current members have been together for the past three years. This group of four guys really fit well together. They are able to harmonize like no other rock band I have ever heard. This gives them a great advantage that they all can contribute vocally. Their sound is really unique and they have carved their own niche into the rock world. The group consists of Drummer Jeff Essex, Lead Guitarist Paul Schauer and Joe Murray on Bass Guitar and of course Lead Vocalist and Rhythm Guitarist Bart Harris.
Bart had this to say about the band, "We each started in different bands before this one. This band got started by relationships that have formed by being in the circuit." Bart went on to say, "We all work really hard at respecting each other and being professional. You have to be able to compromise. Being in a band is like being in multiple relationships at once, its tough sometimes."
JunkFood is a hot band with great tunes and a very professional attitude that will take them far. I expect to see JunkFood make a national launch in the next few years. They are an up and coming band that is heading in new and exciting directions in the future. This band is one that you must see live. You can checkout JunkFood in the Washington area at Ned Devine's in Herndon, VA on December 1st and Sweet Caroline's in Winchester, Va on December 8th. For more dates and information on JunkFood checkout their MySpace page or their band website (www.gotjunkfood.com).
