THE DECLINING WINTER 'Haunt the Upper Hallways' 7" and CD set
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The second major release from Hood person Richard Vincent Adams and cronies is out now.
you can still get the bonus remix cd here but be very quick
http://www.normanrecords.com/records/107814

a few reviews have slithered in

“This is pastoral pop and ambient with a nostalgic, reflective quality thatrecalls Durutti Column, July Skies or Robert Wyatt.”  JUMBO RECORDS

“Dreamy and folk like, but within the boundaries of the genres named above. The atmosphere is sultry and subdued. Think of a highly original hybrid ofHelios, Rachel’s, Peter Broderick, Talk Talk, Centenaire, Dirty Three, TheBoats, Manyfingers and of course Hood.” CALAIDOSCOOP

“Richard Adams approaches his arrangements with meticulous design, with
melodies at the same time ethereal and shattering, punctuating thesesoaring compositions here and there with silky chords, intimate guitartouches and sultry choruses”  AUTRES DIRECTIONS

“Anyone familiar with 'Hood', will find much to enjoy within this release,
Adams has taken lessons learnt and has crafted his own unique vision ofdays gone by”. CRUMBS IN THE BUTTER.

“Strings and dulcimers pop out with an almost eerie quality. The vocals toohave been altered and shifted in ways to lend them a netherworldly quality.Drums skitter and stagger at times throughout the journey” PENNY BLACKMUSIC

“a fleeting lullaby that passes by discreetly, encouraging the listener
towards sleep. it's easy to be drawn towards The Declining Winter and thenonto Richard Adams' ever so slightly skewed dreamland”  MUSIC OMH

“there’s much to enjoy for those who are prepared to work through the
initially confusing mixture of genres; giving credence to the idea thatRichard is an adventurous solo performer with a gift for conveying comfortand warmth amidst the bleak fog” LEONARDS LAIR

just a gentle nudge towards this upcoming release from hood co-founder Richard Adams

its out on 29th june in the novel format of 3 track  7" record with accompanying 10 song CD

the first 100 that pre-order get a free bonus cd of remixes of the title track by the likes of part timer, strategy, library tapes, winter north atlantic, northerner amongst others

what the label says

Throughout the course of 'Haunt The Upper Hallways' you will encounter

passages of breathtaking beauty akin to those found on Rachel's mesmerising

'Music For Egon Schiele', followed by wistful, reflective pieces that

conjure up comparisons with Robert Wyatt, Deerhunter, Grizzly Bear and

latter day Talk Talk. There is a freshness to Adams' approach to

songwriting which is beautifully exhibited in the addition of dulcimer and

violins throughout these ten mini epics.

This latest instalment from The Declining Winter is due for release on 29th June 2009. We have decided it should come as a 7" record which includes a CD containing a full albums worth of material to satisfy those who require a vinyl 'fix' and for a novel way of presenting what is effectively The Declining Winter's second album.

Gareth S Brown
--------------

Another busy year for Gareth S Brown with a triple (if you got the limited
edition) album on Misplaced Music entitled the 'The Gallows'. It came with
a bonus CD 'Royal College O' Surgeons' and comes housed in a beautifully
painstakingly put together handmade sleeve

"a real one-off if ever there was one. Brown's idiosyncratic neo-classicism
clearly draws influence from Michael Nyman and Philip Glass, but owes much
to a skewed, impressionistic take on 'Englishness', and gothic Victoriana."
BOOMKAT

Gareth is working on new material with an album entitled 'Music for False
Ensemble' already completed. If you want to grab yourself a copy of 'The
Gallows' while you can head on over here:-

Hood
----

Nothing……………………but

555 Recordings of Philadelphia are planning some re-issues of older
material in 2009.

- 'Lee Fausts Million Piece Orchestra' LP A re-issue of the 'Lee Fausts
Million Piece Orchestra' and '(The) Weight' 7"s on one LP plus bonus
tracks.

- Finally an issue of Hoods long lost debut album (this is pre- Cabled
Linear Traction). The vinyl has been found in the Adams brothers parents
attic presumed lost after the band discarded it in 1993. It will be issued
in its original form once sleeves are made. This could take some time so
keep checking back.

-Some very early Hood tracks will also crop up on 'The Wetherbeat Scene' a
CD and book on 555 out late winter/early spring.

Details of all three releases will appear on the 555 sites soon.

TWO new releases from moonlighting Hood members hit the shelves a couple of weeks back - they're shifting fast so be quick!

BRACKEN - Eno about the Need CD (Ears Hoping)

In March 2007 Bracken issued "Eno about the need" a double vinyl LP in an edition of exactly one copy. Since that time the LP has been circulating around the globe, being passed from listener to listener. The hope was that it would one day return, covered in graffiti, dust and scratches, with a few stories to tell. The LP did indeed come back, semi-destroyed, in June 2008 and we now present a CD re-issue of it's content.

The majority of the audio was originally salvaged from already decaying tape loops - sounds which were grainy and otherworldly - and it was hoped that as the record degraded and became warped and scratched, the listeners would unwittingly contribute towards the final record.

The re-issue set comprises of a CD transfer mastered from the vinyl and a full colour booklet illustrating the artistic contributions made by the people who looked after the record. It is housed in a handmade, stamped and numbered recycled card sleeve and is strictly limited to 500 copies worldwide.

GARETH S BROWN The Gallows/Royal College O' Surgeons CD (Misplaced Music)

The Gallows is a song cycle of extraordinary emotion, power and precision from the metallic clank of the opening 'An Attack of the Good Grace' the influences of Michael Nyman and Phillip Glass are immediately obvious; yet Brown has such a distinctive way with a melody that every composition is fully his own – haunting string and oboe lines glide effortlessly over repetitive percussive xylophone and vibraphone. The title track is reminiscent of Ryuichi Sakamoto's 'Rain (I want a divorce)', The Blue Nile's 'Walk Across the Rooftops' and Burial's 'Archangel' in its rain-drenched beauty whilst 'First Re-appearance' takes the minimalist approach to its ultimate conclusion only revealing its warped melody after several minutes of churning loops reminiscent of a neo-classical take on Third Eye Foundations off-kilter discordance.

The Gallows is released as part of a limited edition two CD set along with Royal College O' Surgeons, a full length album comprised of tracks recorded during the making of both The Gallows and his first album Iron Henry that didn't make it onto either final cut. Don't let this fool you into thinking these are out-takes. This is a fully realised album of amazing scope and breadth. 'Earlier, I thought I saw John Dee' is the best song Rachel's never recorded whilst 'You mustn't stop clapping your hands (or you will die, you will die)' is Browns most strung out textured work to date recalling Seefeel's fractured ambience.

hello

theres quite a bit of news actually - all Hood related rather than
Hood but you expected that didn't you?

THE DECLINING WINTER

First up, the debut CD by The Declining Winter 'Goodbye Minnesota' is
released on Monday 5th May on Rusted Rail. Now theres only 500 of them
so for the moment they are going to be difficult to get hold of
especially for our friends in North America. The best places to buy
them from are as follows:-

Direct from the label: http://www.rustedrail.com/shop3.html
Norman Records (UK): http://www.normanrecords.com/records/98160
Linus Records (Japan): http://www.linusrecords.jp/recommend/2008/0425/

Please note that the limited edition first 100 with postcard and badge
have sold out.

In case you were wondering, The Declining Winter is the solo project
of Richard Vincent Adams co-founder of Hood. We'll save you the waffle
of trying to describe it and instead send you to the last fm page
where you can hear the majority of the album for yourself!

GARETH S BROWN

It seems like we've been saying it for years but the new CD from
Gareth S Brown will be out in the next month or so. You wait years for
a Gareth S Brown album to come along and (potentially) three come
along at once. This is because 'The Gallows' is now a double
containing a bonus album 'Royal College O' Surgeons' ......and if you
are quick the first 50 copies come with third bonus album called
'Early Mammals'.

All will be released on Misplaced Music. Please contact them for more
details

You can hear some previews here:-

thats it then
