Paxahau

On March 17th, I had the opportunity to play on the Paxahau/Movement webcast.  It’s about an hour long and I just played all kinds of techno.  Besides my usual gaffe’s, I think it came pretty good.

Anyway, you can check out Paxahau’s Movement weekly podcast on Tuesday nights from 7p-9p on Paxahau.com

Here’s the mix….

Here is 6 in my Impromptu series of mixes. This one is going to require a bit of a story, though. About a year and a half ago, I had my basement waterproofed, but the company did a crappy job and didn't cover up my stuff in the basement when they jackhammered through some concrete. Resulting in a ton of cement dust on top of my record collection as well as everything else in the basement. To make a long story short, they need to come back and do more work, so I've been slowly but surely digging out the records and cleaning them off to make them playable.

This mix is from a handful of records I was going through one evening in late August and decided to make a mix with them. I strayed from the deep dubby stuff for this one as well. It's a little scatter brained, I think, but I was able to dig up some old favorites of mine.

It should also be mentioned that this mix was done using 100% vinyl. I did switch to Serato a couple years ago, but I did this one using nothing but the wax I pulled out from the archives.

So, here's the mix. Tracklist below

Impromptu Mix 4 - Hip Hop Instrumentals

Mix 4 in the series is basically me playing some of my favorite hip hop instrumentals. I actually made it a couple months ago, but didn't get around to upload it until just now. To make things clear, I am not a "hip hop DJ" by any stretch of the imagination, but I do like to buy it and I used to play a lot of these cuts among all kinds of other music out when doing gigs at places like the Buddha Lounge with Michael Geiger. I don't scratch and I just try to mix them like I normally would with electronic music. It was actually a learning experience once I went back and listened to it, though.

Impromptu Mix 5 - More of the Deep

I made Mix 5 last night. It contains more of the deep dubby stuff like previous mixes. However, this time I didn't stay strictly in the dubby side of things, but tried to play some other kinds of records as well. Especially the last two tracks in which I've always wanted to put on a mix, but never got around to it until now.

Usually I reserve the blog space for posting mixes and what not, but what I saw last night made me want to post this.

So I went down to Ignite to hang with Geiger for a few Maker's Mark on the rocks and to relax a bit. After the lounge shut down I decided to hit up the burger joint, Carter's, by my house for some greazy sliders because, well, I was hungry.

Upon walking into the place, I have to hear some shitty Doors jams while having to hear some preppy white dudes singing along like they just brought some serious heat to the establishment. Like they just brought the house down by picking that doors song in the shitty juke box there. Then they proceed to play, you guessed it, some Jimmy Buffett! I can't stand Jimmy Buffett. I think he sucks and just isn't smooth at all. In fact, I wish the Yacht Rock crew would do an episode where he gets his ass beat.

Needless to say, it wasn't going too smoothly upon first arrival, but nothing could've prepared me for what I saw just a few short minutes later...

I was sitting by the window since all the seats at the bar where taken and there were these 3 girls sitting at the bar waiting for their orders, which happened to be coney dogs. Fine. Nothing wrong with that at all. Then I saw one girl get her bag of coney's and then proceed to open the styrofoam up to one of them, grab some sugar, and pour a SHITLOAD of it on top of her coney!!! Then she did it to the rest of them! Upon seeing that, one of her friends looked a little taken back, but then the other friend looked at her friend and said something like, "you've never put sugar on coney's? That's good as hell"!!!!

WTF?!?!

Who in the hell puts sugar on their coneys?!

That is so inappropriate on so many levels. I was so suprised by it that a couple of you guys got text messages at 3 am about it. Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.

Edit:

And the hits keep on coming! I just got back from the grocery store where there was this one pretty obese lady with some nasty teeth yapping on her cellphone.....extremely loud! You could hear this piece all over the Kroger. You know, I'm trying to get my grocery on and the last thing I need to hear about is whether Debbie will let the kids sleep over and shit. She was so loud, the staff was seeking her out throughout the store to see where she was. Which obviously wasn't hard to find, by the way.

Funny.
