well, i guess i lied.
signed back in again today - twice in the last month is a a new record as of recent days. but, i suppose that as long as myspace lives, so will my myspace account. i mean hell, i've had this account since 2004 when myspace was purely music based. this isn't the first time i've used this myspace blog to hate on myspace. in reality i do derive some sort of nerd pleasure in using myspace blogs for meaningless diatribes about how annoying myspace can be.
but
i recognize the value of myspace in some social circles. i recognize the value of providing a tool that works (well, that part is questionable, but..) a tool that functions and exists solely to allow people to connect themselves to each other and objects of fame. Yes yes i like the mainstream userbase to which myspace has managed to teach new tricks. average internet users (not avg in intelligence, just avg in their usage habits.) have inadvertently learned the basics in certain coding languages. because of myspace, "average" web users know how to link to images, use html in comments, and even how to apply css to design. it's sorta like geocities in the early 90s. and aol. thanks to geocities, I learned hex numbers for colors and html. thanks to aol, i learned how to script a bot for a chat room.
i recognize that my closer social circles don't rely on myspace as their primary social network application. But some of my most awesome-o friends do have profiles and do appear to log in regularly. I also know that myspace blogs are crawled by technorati, and google crawls technorati.... and so it is still in my best "online marketing" interest to continue to use it.
even when i write long boring posts like this one.
rock on. and realize that this page isn't really my hub.

signed in to myspace today for the first time in months & remembered why it annoys me. it's not just that it reminds me of AOL just before its social demise - it annoys me b/c it sucks and still has the same usability/ functionality issues that existed in 2004.
i'm on facebook now. it's fun. it has awesome-o apps. and it scales - which means....it doesn't break. and most of my friends (you?) are there now too.
bye bye rupert m.
you can find me on facebook using this email for the search

"The Swayback is sexy, loud, medieval, a bit dangerous, a bit playful, and a bit strange. Merging the dark, spacious atmosphere of Joy Division with psychedelic fuzz and Detroit-derived noise, Denver's Swayback find an uncommon middle ground between moody post-punk and anarchic proto-punk. Dark as anything to come out of Manchester's suicidal singers minds, yet powerful enough to hold its own in a biker bar, The Swayback forges a much needed and incredibly unlikely bridge between Londons Bat Cave era and Detroit Rock City." These are some of the quotes that have appeared in print to describe the Denver, Colorado based music outfit, the Swayback. These descriptions hint at the elusive and evolving sound of the Swayback. Called at times punk, post-punk, modern and neo-psychedelic, the Swayback have crafted a sound that is dark, a bit loud but melodic, moody and thoughtful. Driven by a wild energy seen in the band's live performances, and anchored in Kerouacian lyrics and succinct song structure, the Swayback themselves put it like this: "It's always been our intention to be completely open to what comes out and not put any limitation on what we do because we love everything that has soul or movement." I heart Promonet. because of Promonet, i can share music from The Swayback, one of my favorite indie bands out of denver - with the myspace community.
