Dearest friends,

We would like to welcome our newest member and bass player, Jason Bodley, to the darkroom family.  Jason comes to us all the way from Nashville, TN where he spent the last 5 years going to audio recording school, recording bands, and also being a part of various musical projects himself.  Jason brings a lot to the table as a musician, not just as a bass player, but in a broad sense of understanding music and catching our vision for darkroom as well.  He is hard worker and is going to be a great fit for us.  Oh, and he adds tattoos to our band...(which is the real reason why we added him). We can finally be a REAL band! ;)

Jason moved to Winona Lake in early October with his wife Kristi.  Literally one week after he moved, he played his first show with us in Fort Wayne.  So far, since then we have played 5 shows with Jason and we couldn't be happier with our new band member.  We are excited for what is to come as we prepare to release our record early next year.

Like many times, with great news such as this, there is a sad side as well.  Our long-time bass player, Luke Humberd is moving on to pursue other things.  His decision had nothing to do with a lack of love for the band or the music, and there are certainly no hard feelings with any of us.  In fact its quite the opposite. After we came home from tour last year, Luke graciously came to us and expressed that he would be leaving the band.  However, rather than selfishly leaving us high and dry, he stuck it out for an entire YEAR to help us finish the record and find a replacement.  He really made the transition to Jason seamless by helping in that way.  We wish Luke the best and are so excited for the new things he feels led to pursue in his life!  He has served us well and will certainly be missed.  The "Humbeard" era: May 2006-October 2009.

As sad as we were to see Luke go, we are very excited for things on the horizon for Darkroom, mainly the release of our new full length!! So please stay tuned for exciting news in the near future, and if you can, come out to some shows and see/meet our new bassist, Jason!!  He's a great guy and would love to meet all of you.

Thanks so much for those who keep up with us and read these blogs.  You're a big reason why we keep doing what we're doing.

Love,

corey, kyle, lucas

Back in March of 2007, we released our first LP called A Curious Excavation. Several months ago we sold out of the physical copies that we had of that record.  We are tentatively planning on releasing a new record in January of 2010, but for those who haven't been able to purchase our old album at shows or otherwise, we have made it available through Noisetrade.  With Noisetrade, fans have the option of paying what they want to support the artist, or simply emailing 5 of their friends a link to the album.  I've actually used it myself to get copies of some other great bands' records and I really liked the concept, plus its really easy to use.  The artists win, because they get their music in more people's hands, and the fans win because they have controlled access to obtaining great music.

Go ahead and click the widget on our page and start sharing the love!! Or you can use this URL: https://www.noisetrade.com/darkroom#

Other artists I recommend getting on Noisetrade:

Thanks so much for your continued support!  We love you.

Hey friends,

Its been several weeks since we've updated you all on our studio progress.  Thought I would take a minute to let you know how things are going with the new album.  We finished tracking the all the songs at the end of July in Colorado Springs. We've spent the past couple weeks trying to get back into our daily routines back home in Indiana. Its also proven to be a restful "ear break" for us, being so heavily immersed in darkroom songs for the past month.  Its good for us to take a step away from our music for a spell so that we can have a fresh, more objective perspective on the mixes in the coming weeks.

I am excited to say that we are now back in full swing working on the album.  I am currently back in beautiful Colorado Springs working with Josh, our engineer, every day for 12+ hours a day mixing the album.  We're sending our drafts of the mixes back home to the other guys and getting their input, as we continue to tweak away and make fine adjustments.  So far, so good!...but we can't wait for it to be done so that we can share it with you all.  Its been a long time coming.

Well for those of you still keeping up with us, we appreciate your interest and support.  It really means so much to us.  We know for several months shows have been sparse, and we haven't hit the southeast (sorry Greenville!) or toured in a long time.  Hopefully this songwriting/recording sabbatical will be worth it in the end.  In other words, stay here with us...for better or for worse. :)  Hopefully you'll be hearing some new music soon.  Until then, please stay tuned for more updates...maybe even a song leak. ;)

love,

Hey everyone, thanks for showing interest in our exciting news. We are pleased to announce that we are going to be recording our new full length album, "Stay Here with Me (for better or for worse)" beginning July 6th in the beautiful mountains of Colorado Springs.  We are long overdue for a new record, and we are very excited about the new music.  The following is the press release announcing our recording plans:

"Northern Indiana based post-rock group, Darkroom, announces plans to record their second studio album, Stay Here with Me (for better or for worse) this summer. They will begin tracking the album July 6 at Leyden Lane Studios in Colorado Springs, CO.  Over two years after the release of A Curious Excavation (March 2007), Stay Here with Me… will reflect a selection of songs created over the past 18 months of songwriting and touring. Listeners can expect Darkroom’s new record to push the envelope of standard song structure and arrangements, while never neglecting pop smarts or their high regard for melody.

The album is expected to debut late this fall, but the official release date has not been determined.  A video promoting the band’s recording plans can be found on their myspace (http://myspace.com/darkroommusic) and website (http://da.rkroom.com)"

In other great news, we are also looking forward to our second year playing Cornerstone Festival.  We are playing the Indie Community stage 3 different times that week. We really hope to see those of you who are going to Cornerstone at the shows! Mark your schedules!...Monday 11:20 p.m., Tuesday 10:00 p.m. (right after Deas Vail!), Wednesday 4:40 p.m.  The Indie Community stage was our favorite stage last year and we're really excited to play again this year.

We really appreciate everyone's support and cannot wait till we have more details about the new album to share with all of you.  We will also be updating you with videos, blogs, and photos several times a week while we're recording in Colorado, so stay tuned!

much love,
corey, kyle, lucas, luke

Our friend Lucas Carter was kind enough to write a show review for last Thursday's performance at the Grind with Deas Vail and Hope Arthur. I'm not sure if we "rival Coldplay" (we're much better than Coldplay...), but it's a good article; check it out!

Hey hope you are enjoying one of our newest songs, Nursery Rhyme. We had a lot of fun with this song adding layers of strings, horns, and other colorful textures while tracking this. The song was recorded by Kevin Flick. Also thanks to our friends who played some of the auxiliary instruments on the song: Daniel Zambrano (cello), Justin Schafer (violin), Jeremy Smith (trombone).

Here are the lyrics for those that are intersted:

Like living lines from a nursery rhyme
Our innocence a lie
I count to four, begin again with one
And soldiers march for war

A child's song will age
As the feelings of our mistakes replay

The lamb sits quiet on the green hillside
But howls in the moonlight
A dark gray coat underneath white wool
And shepherds play the fool

A child's song will age
As the feelings of our mistakes replay
White turns into gray
Revealing what caused the rain to give way

Just like Chagall, redemptive art
Is a colorful starting place on canvases of our hearts;
A sculpting of souls that you create
But we fall, the right is wronged
And we are not hearing what you say to us
On these days, I'm reminded that change is on its way
Jesus give me strength to stay

And now that you know that underneath this skin
Is a cowardly soul without a prayer
You're better now than before

Darkroom was recently played on Fort Wayne's Little Brother Radio on 89.1 FM.  Little Brother is one of the few (if only) program in Fort Wayne dedicated to featuring local musicians. Little Bro is played on Saturday evenings; show them some love at  http://www.myspace.com/littlebroradio and support yourself some local music!
