Las Noticias del movimiento—News of the Movement Written by El Padrino Wednesday, 29 October 2008 The long-awaited new Aterciopelados CD is finally available through Nacional Records, accompanied by a raving review from Rolling Stone ,but still no news of them going out on the road to support it. You will find info on www.alborde.com "nightlife" as soon as dates are announced.
La Gusana Ciega's excellent new CD "Jaibol" has been released in México, but still no word as to whether Universal US plans to make the CD available domestically. Why are they asleep at Universal Latino? Bands like La Gusana Ciega, Dildo, Finde, Volovan and Porter, who are signed to Universal México have following and fans in the US who want to buy their CDs—please, make them available!
Legendary punk band desde España, Don Cikuta is currently out on a 14 city México tour, but no dates scheduled for the US. Hopefully, by the time you read this, they will have added at least a few US dates before returning to Spain.
Which band are altenativo insiders whispering about? It is the debut performance of Son Locuaz featuring legendary ex-Afixión drummer Roman López. Word has it that they will be playing their initial show with OC bad boys Legazy at Mal's Nov. 15, then sharing the stage in December with some of the biggest LA rockero bands at a major Califas showcase. More news when we have it.
Is it true? That a major D.F. Mexican fast food chain with taco franchises all over China is considering bringing Pastilla across the Pacific as the first rock en español band aimed at Chinese youth who now love tacos and are craving for new Latino bands to follow? You heard it here first.
The lovely Pilar Diaz, former lead singer of Los Abandoned, has completed her solo CD, and by the time you read this will have staged her release party at the Echo (Nov.1), but also appeared on the seminal "Travel Tips for Aztlan" program with Mark Torres and Mariluz Gonzalez to not only contribute tracks to Voto Latino, but KPFK's fund raising drive. No word yet on who will distribute Pilar's CD, but rumor has it she is in discussion with Nacional Records.
And speaking of Nacional Records and Tomas Cookman's flagship band, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, tour dates are announced for México for November, but still no word on confirmed US dates. A Cadillacs reunion must include some US appearances—hopefully, we will all know soon.
For those of you who have been following the rock en español scene for many years, you will remember a band from Chicago named Planeta de Crystal. Many felt they had the momentum to become a big break out band on the US landscape. And then they disappeared. Well, Javier Cazares, the leader of Planeta is back in full-force with a dynamite new band Los Pecados De María, who showcased the group and their new CD release "Por Si Una Vez" at Wings Sports Bar in Berwin, IL recently. The new band and CD is awesome—look for big things from them.
