Four years after starting out as Tic Toc Tokyo, we feel it's time for a
change and would like to announce that from now on the band will be
using the abbreviated name of TTT. Leading up to the release
of our debut album early next year, we feel this change is better
suited to our current and future projects and endeavours. Thanks y'all
for your understanding.

'Kicking off the night at the Newtown Workers Club was support act Tic Toc Tokyo.
With caveman-like demeanour and uncompromising zeal, band members Simon
Gibbs, Nicolaas Oogjes, Martin Umanski and Adrian Vecino make up this
impressive group.
Despite starting early in the night it was clear that the band had a
following of their own, as they had brought in a good crowd. Tic Toc
Tokyo by no means play songs you can hum to. Instead, their music is
typified by the kind that crawls under your skin and pulsates with a
heat reminiscent of when jungle fever meets psychedelia. Their engaging
experimental, climatic, drums-blazing sound has the propensity to coax
one into a mesmeric trance and even a peculiar, dizzy tribal dance.
As one of the most passionate performances I’ve come across in a
while, Tic Toc Tokyo are not a band to fill their interludes with
monkey business or cheap laughs. Without trying to sound too wanky,
they let their music speak for itself. Unlike so many bands, their
performance is effortlessly captivating and refreshing, without any
appeal to showboating. With Oogjes bashing away at the drums, Gibbs’
animalistic vocals, and sporadic injections of eerie distortions, their
atmospheric music fills up the room and is nothing short of all
consuming and intense.
Albeit they were a strange choice as a warm-up act for the bluesy,
pop-rock style of Spiral Stairs, but they nonetheless hit the spot with
getting the crowd going.
Overall, the juxtaposition of Tic Toc Tokyo’s progressive, improvised
tunes and Spiral Stairs’ wholesome, laid-back sound made for an
outstanding night of seasoned performers.'

'The last time I was at The Workers we ended up getting booted out on
account of a friend of mine taking off his shoes and socks and rolling
'round on the floor like a lunatic, so I was somewhat
apprehensive about darkening its doors again. After a snaky shimmy
through to the bandroom it was all good however, and we arrived to hear
warm-up act Tic Toc Tokyo cutting some mean shapes. I’m not normally
one for processed music done as part of a live act, but these guys were
impressive. It was a very eclectic set, mixing wonderful vocal
harmonies with some funkadelic bass lines. It was a strange choice as
an opening act, but a good one and I must admit I was kind of excited
by them.'

'The first band on at the ever more impressive Workers Club- and sole support act for the show- were Melbourne art riff generators Tic Toc Tokyo. Mixing polyrhythms with dancefloor bass lines and ambient guitar sounds, the band have found the perfect balance between live instrumentation and processed noise. A stellar performance which impressed with its precision, inventiveness and power.'

Hi all, Firstly, thanks to all those who came to the Ritual single launch in October at the East Brunswick Club. We had a great night, and thanks also to Dead Before Death Gang, New Estate and Plug-In City, who all played great sets. The gig has been reviewed on Faster Louder and The Dwarf- you can read the reviews here and here, and see some photo galleries from the show here and here. Meanwhile, the Ritual single has also received some polarising reviews. Mess & Noise called the track 'languid' and lacking 'any direction whatsoever', and described it a 'maladroit piece of post-punk revivalism'. The single was also reviewed by Whothehell.net, who by contrast described the track as 'meditative and deconstructive', 'haunting and enchanting' and claimed it 'dissolve(s) the pejorative tone in the frequent post-punk comparisons and elevates the band beyond superficial imitators'. The single was also reviewed by New Zealand blog Einstein Music Journal, who wrote: 'Taking on a densely layered, decapitating sound, Ritual drifts in and out of consciousness, shredding broken landscapes and smoothing the angular edges off their first EP'. They scored it a 7/10. Follow the links above to read the reviews in full, but as always though we think it's best you listen and make up your own mind. As noted previously, with various members of the band off traveling overseas we'll be having a quiet summer, but we look forward to seeing you all again sometime in early '09. -TTT.

RITUAL

Tic Toc Tokyo release their new single, Ritual, this Saturday October 18th.
Marked by haunting vocals, abrasive tones and percussive rhythms, Ritual sees the band explore a more expansive sound as they develop the experimental aspects of their debut EP, Artefacts. Lead by an unified rhythm and taking on space as an integral element, the track is driven by tension before moving into an atmospheric interlude inhabited by dual overlapping vocals, textured guitars and melodica. Ritual was recorded by producer Nao Anzai at Head Gap Studios in Melbourne.
Ritual will be released as 4 track CD, available via MGM Distribution. Accompanying Ritual on the single is a remix of the track Colour of Place (which appeared on the Artefacts EP released earlier this year). Colour of Place- Oona's Nuclear Winter Mix is an atmospheric, experimental dub-influenced alternate version of the track, remixed by producer Casey Rice (AKA. Designer) at his Classix studio.
Rounding out the release are versions live versions of Traps and The River- two highlights of our live set and recorded especially for this release by Nao Anzai in the Pony bandroom, Melbourne.
SINGLE LAUNCH

We will be launching the single next Friday October 24th at the East Brunswick Club in Melbourne. Joining us on the night are special guests Plug-In City, New Estate, and Dead-Before-Death-Gang, making for a fantastic and eclectic lineup. This will be our last gig for the year as various band members head overseas for the summer. In addition, the gig will also be the first chance to preview a number of new tracks which we have written for our debut album, due to be recorded in early 2009.

Bachelor Of Arts Album Launch at Toff in Town.
Bachelor Of Arts, Tic Toc Tokyo & Deasd Before Death Gang
"..Tic Toc Tokyo have been building a solid reputation through plenty of gigging in the last two and a half years. Tonight they have brought some of those admirers with them as the crowd has noticeably grown in number. Launching into an instrumental as their first track gives us a good insight as to what has made them so popular thus far, deep melodic quality post-punk rock. The Phil Collins wet dream is fulfilled with a drummer that likes to sing and a singer that likes to drum. The trading places between lead singer/guitarist Simon Gibbs and drummer Nic Oogjes is marginally off putting; however, it does work on different levels as each bring something slightly different to the overall performance. The River is a belting track, but it's Colour of Place and Ladies In Vogue (check the clip on MySpace) from the Artefacts EP that really go off and have the punters seal of approval.."
