The sample tracks on the Roswell Six profile page passed 40,000 plays today. The major music distributor Ryko will be carrying the CD, distributing through retail channels. For those of you who preordered the CD through either AnderZoneShop or ProgRockRecords, copies have already shipped. Meanwhile, the booklets for the signed, limited edition are circulating among the performers. Chris Brown just sent us a photo of his autographing session (in our photos on the MySpace profile); next, the booklets go to Gary Wehrkamp. The CD and the novel THE EDGE OF THE WORLD will both be released simultaneously on June 2.

Last week eight members of Roswell Six gathered at the BJs Brewhouse in Westwood, CA for a celebration dinner. Shawn Gordon arrived with the finished CDs, which had just arrived at the warehouse. Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta came with the newly printed Roswell Six posters. Mike Alvarez (cello), Chris Quirarte (drums), Kurt Barabas (bass), and vocalists John Payne and Michael Sadler also arrived for a marathon signing session.
We've posted photos in a special album on our photos here on the page.

Arriving in town a day early for this weekend’s Nebula Awards ceremonies and the LA Times Festival of Books, Rebecca and I met with other members of the Roswell Six project for a celebration dinner. We came bearing a stack of the slick new posters for the Terra Incognita: Beyond the Horizon CD (and I also brought hardcover copies of Enemies & Allies for everyone). Shawn Gordon from ProgRock Records arrived with a bunch of the finished, shrink-wrapped CDs, which had just arrived at his warehouse the day before.Our cello player, Mike Alvarez, was the first to arrive, and we chatted about various science fiction topics. Mike had come nearly three hours just to make the dinner. Chris Quirarte, our drummer, arrived next, and we all got to know each other. Shawn and our bassist Kurt Barabas drove together, and made a detour to Burbank to pick up one of our vocalists, John Payne. Later, our second male vocalist, Michael Sadler, came in, and we all sat around a large table autographing 200 copies of the CD booklet for those who had ordered the limited-edition signed book and CD. In the middle of the chaos, as the brewery restaurant got louder and louder with dinnertime crowds, Erik Norlander (who wrote the music, played keyboards, and mixed the tracks) called in to attend the dinner virtually from Northern California. (Only the day before I had met Erik’s wife Lana Lane, our female vocalist, on the phone—Lana was one of our very first choices when brainstorming this CD.) I’ll post photos as soon as I download them from my camera. We had not previously met Michael Sadler, John Payne, Chris Quirarte, or Mike Alvarez. Everyone was very satisfied with what they had done on the project, and several had never heard the whole CD before and were looking forward to listening to the tracks they hadn’t worked on; a couple of them have not had a chance to read the novel Edge of the World yet. When we finally adjourned, Chris Q gave us a ride back to our hotel. Those of you who have preordered the CD from either ProgRockRecords.com or AnderZoneshop.com will receive your copies well before they are available in stores. You still have a chance for a sneak preview if you place your order before the release date. Our meeting took place exactly two years to the day from when Shawn and I first talked about the idea for this project. We hope you all will listen to the music and read the novel. KJA

This blog from Mike Alvarez, the cello player on Roswell Six. He wrote it more than a month ago just after he had completed his work on the CD; we wanted to share it here as well.
=========
I just finished recording cello tracks for the upcoming debut release by Roswell Six, "Terra Incognita: Beyond The Horizon". What an amazing, intense experience! Last weekend's session was a marathon, but we got a lot of work done. Today's was a little more relaxed because we had fewer songs we had to tackle. Nevertheless, the charts were extremely challenging and I can only hope I did them justice. I'm still blown away by the talent that's been recruited for this project. There's some real star power here. James Labrie of Dream Theater, Michael Sadler of Saga, John Payne of Asia, David Ragsdale of Kansas, Erik Norlander and Lana Lane, Gary Wehrkamp of Shadow Gallery, Chris Brown of Ghost Circus, Chris Quirarte of Prymary, Kurt Barabas of Under The Sun and Martin Orford of IQ. All major figures in modern progressive rock. I still can't believe I'm playing on an album that features these guys! Let's not forget that it all wouldn't be possible without the creative vision of author Kevin J. Anderson, who is one of my favorites and a heck of a nice guy. I'm in the middle of "Terra Incognita, Book 1: "The Edge Of The World", and it's an incredible tale. It's a real page turner. Everybody should get it when it comes out! I'm especially grateful to Erik Norlander for asking me to come aboard, and to Shawn Gordon, president of ProgRock Records for his patience and recording expertise. There will be some great songs and wonderful performances on this album. I can't wait to hear it when it's all put together!

One more sample track from the "Terra Incognita" CD has been put up, this time on Michael Sadler's MySpace Page. "Letters in a Bottle" is a powerful, moving ballad featuring Michael's vocals as the sailor Criston, writing letters to his distant love, sealing them in a bottle and trusting them to the waves. This song also features incredible violins by David Ragsdale, the violinist from the group Kansas. Those of you who have listened to Lana Lane's symphonic power ballad "Merciful Tides" will recognize its mirror in this song. A reminder, ALL preorders of the Roswell Six CD will receive a free 11 x 17 full-color Roswell Six poster. Preorder here.

The first Terra Incognita novel, THE EDGE OF THE WORLD, will be available as an unabridged audiobook read by the fantastic Scott Brick (who has read all of my Dune novel collaborations with Brian Herbert). I’ve spent a lot of time on the phone with Scott to go over all the pronounciations of the character names and foreign words. Next Monday we will record a bonus interview to go at the end of the audiobook. Scott just wrote me yesterday, “Finished recording it on Saturday. Awesome, awesome work, my friend. Congratulations, you really outdid yourself. Loved every single page.” The audiobook will be available from Brick-by-Brick Audio and Hachette Audio. We’re trying to arrange an audio sample of Scott reading the first chapter, which we’ll post here if possible. Meanwhile, I am up in a cabin at the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park, holed up without distractions (supposedly), blitzing through the first edit of THE MAP OF ALL THINGS, the second novel in the “Terra Incognita” trilogy. ENEMIES & ALLIES -- Recorded Books is producing the unabridged audio of my forthcoming Batman/Superman novel, which comes out on May 5. HUNTER’S MOON -- audible.com has just rereleased a dramatized audio collection of some of my dark fantasy stories about a very strange small town in Wisconsin (not at all like the town where I grew up, honest . . . though there may be a few similiarities). These stories were released on cassette in the 1980s, but I’ve always loved the production and the performance. I’m thrilled to have them available again, this time for downloadable audio. Check them out at audible.com for a special offer of $7.49 KJA
