Hello All!

How are you on this fine fine day?  I'm good - I've re-potted my tomatoes!

I just received an email from Papa G - of him on the east Anglian news!  I had to share it with you because it made me laugh!

New News is that my beautiful Mama Julie is having an exhibition of her paintings from 3rd September @ The Pond Gallery, Snape Maltings, Suffolk
and on Saturday 5th at 3pm I shall be performing!
Mum's painting's are wonderful - all about looking at life and how brilliant it is and seeing the goodness and fun in everything.  Whether you buy a picture or not you'll have a big smile on your face and a warmth in your heart! (I'll put some of her picutres up in a photo album - check them out!)

We hope to see you there!!  Snape Maltings is a great place to have a day out too! With loads of lovely places to visit near by like Southwold, Dunwich, Aldeburgh, Walberswick..... (you'd never beleive I was a Suffolk gal would you eh?!)

On Thursday 3rd September I will be hosting my talented friends at The Hideaway, Tufnell Park....... it's still free and it's still brilliant!

Lovely people this time playing will be....

Daniela Bove
Sean Taylor
Shambolica
Hayley Glennie Smith
Sharon Lewis

and myself and The Hairband!

Be great to see you there!

I think that's all!

I hope you are all fine and dandy and enjoying yourselves!

See you soon!

love Vashti x

p.s Check out my brother's blog - all about my Dad cycling to paris - it's a funny story!

Hello all!

How are you?

First things first...... what a splendid time we all had at The Hideaway last week eh!  Was such a lovely vibe, thanks to all who came down to watch but most special thanks to all my wonderful friends who played......

Wayne Myers, Sam Lewis, Miranda Barber, Hadar Manor, Ed Sheeran, Beth Rowley, Martin and Kerry Bloom (lovely father and daughter) and Hayden Parsey.  Not forgetting Tom Fry who not only did his magic on double bass but also twiddled nobs to make things sound lovely jubly!

If you missed it then do your best to make the next one which is on Thursday 3rd September once again @ The Hideaway.  I'll have different friends to play and just as much fun.  I put on the night for free and it's really about us all getting together to say hello and hear what each other are up to...... and to try out new material!

Secondly.....

After having a Not Paricularly Anything Day (NPAD) yesterday, my brother Charlie Barlie called me up to invite me to his friend's house, Mariko, along with brother Tom, Lily and my Dad, for home-made sushi..... Man was that good!  Absoloutely amazing food!
Charlie had to dash off at 10.30 and as I enquired as to where it turns out he had a radio 2 session with Janice Long.  Now, Janice and I have been exchanging emails for some weeks and had been meaning to meet, and so of course I excepted the invite to accompany my bro.
Turned out to be a lot of fun!  Met Ben Edwards there, who is Harmonica Player Extrodinaire for Charlie Barlie and ended up singing bv's and banging my food on a bouncy guitar case through a couple of songs.
You can hear it if you follow this link..... (it begins about 30 mins in to show)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00lv1fm/Janice_Long_30_07_2009/

I'm now back in Suffolk with my old style 4 track planning to record something or other...... The sun is shining, there's a blackbird hopping about outside and I plan to go for a bike ride in a bit and pick some flowers from the roadside.  Also going to get some of my favourite duck pate from the local butchers - which consuming will no doubt be the highlight of my day! MMmmmmmm........

Hope you're all having a nice day and enjoy your weekends!!!

Don't forget - Thursday 3rd September @ The Hideaway
114 Junction Rd, Tufnell Park. London. N19

Bye for now!

To all my loyal Blog followers!!!!

HELLO!!!!!  How are you?

I am very well thank you!

I've been having an entertaining summer since I last wrote to you in May. (I'll tell you about it... but if you don't want to know - jut go down to the bit that's BOLD)

I went over to France in May to support my superstar brother Monsoir Charlie Winston (where he's gone platinum and has taken to dressing as a painter and decorator -so as not to get regognized in the Parisian streets!  HA ha!)  Anyway, that was great!  Not only cos I got to hang out with my brother and his lovely troupe, but the French audiences were most charing and attentive and brought my album, which is always nice!  The cheese and wine selection was most superb too and I am missing that.   Went over again in June with Mr Double Bass Tom Fry to support him at La Pigale in Paris to a packed house of 1800.  Really enjoyed that and nicked some of Charlie's band for a few numbers.  Old Charlie put on a blinding show and I was most sisterly proud!  We dueted on my song "Friend Oh Friend" and on his song "Boxes" and they were special moments.  Ahhh.

Went to see Eddi Reader at The Queen Elizabeth Hall.  Mr Roy Dodds was drumming/percussioning with her (as he always does) and it was superb... she has the most fluent voice and is beautifully natural and funny on stage.

Ed Sheeran invited me to sing BV's on his new EP.  The songs are great and I am proud to have played a small part.  Don't know when it's released but check out his page anyway. He'll do very well that lad.

The madness of Glastonbury was next up!  Tom and I were invited to play The Avalon Cafe Stage on the thursday and saturday - and Hadar made a surprise appearance on BV's for both which was wicked.  Tom read his funny poems and all was rosey!  Apart from herbal highs that made Tom and I violently sick (don't take them) and the odd downpour it was all good.
Best bits.... number one - Regina Spektor.  Fucking genius!
A very close second..... Blur - what can you say?
Third... The Noisettes - amazing energy.
Fourth......Beth Rowley - gave me goosebumps, what a voice!
Much more excellent stuff but I'm sure I'm probably boring you by now.....????

Last weekend I sang BV's with Claire Nicolson at couple of festivals - she's a crazy diamond of a chick who writes songs that you can't get out of your head and is simply brilliant, brilliant!  Her new album is soon to be realeased.  BUY IT!

Are you still there???

Maybe ... maybe not..... hang on in there....... THIS IS THE IMPORTANT BIT !!!!!!!!!

Hello there!

I've just put a a brand new remix of "INFATUATION" up....... man responsible - DJ Tzar Küntz (AKA J T Lundie)  We'd really like to have your opinion on it....... Please let us know what you think - good or bad!

Secondly, Thank you very much to all that came and supported myself and the Hairband at Ginglik on Wednesday.  We had a wicked time!  You were a great crowd!  Credit to Sarah on sound who is always brilliant.  I really enjoyed a set from Canadian singer songwriter Dan Mangan, who's songs told lovely stories and his stage presence was warm and captivating.  Check him out  www.myspace.com/danmangan   He's not in the UK for long and I would recommend seeing him live while you can.

Again..... let us know what you think of Infatuation!

Oh and there are some new photo's up!  Kindly taken by my friend Michael Tinney.

With love,

Hello All!

I awoke this morning with the blues..... wierd dreams and too long analizing them and staring at the ceiling... so dull.

I pulled myself out of bed with a face like Mr Grumpy, went downstairs to make morning coffee and found a package on the doorstep with my name on it (that's always nice isn't it!)

It was a CD of my parents, Geoff 'n Julie, singing together from about 30 years ago.  I put it on and I smiled.

I had been wondering why I was doing the music thing and was brain storming alternative careers I could go for, but with none really exciting me.  (I think anyone creative has these moments?)

By playing the music of my parents I was reminded why I do it.  I do it because I love it and it does excite me.

I returned from France on Sunday having supported my brother Charlie Barlie on tour.  It was a great experience... his band and entourage were really nice and the last night I had them all on stage with me!   The audiences were very warm and responsive and didn't heckle me off stage with my terrible French.  I'll be going back in June and am really looking forward to it!

Tonight... I will be playing at Ginglik with my band (Tom, Danny, Hadar) and am really looking forward to it.  I have invited some publishers and have a nice crowd coming along. I always enjoying playing there!

So from Mr Grumpy to Little Miss Sunshine.........

I hope you are well.

If you're not, I'll send you my album, it'll arrive on your doorstep -  and that'll cheer you up!!!

I'm listening to Feist (The Reminder) as I write this... if you haven't got her album, or haven't heard of her... go check her out.  She's brilliant.

A bientot!

Hello me lovelies!!!!! How are you? HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!! I hope that your year has started well and gets better by the day! Firstly, a MASSIVE THANK YOU for all your support throughout 2008. For buying the album, coming to gigs and all your kind comments which mean so much. It was a great year for me and I’m ready for another one. Also, very special thanks to my brilliant friends and family who all give me boundless love and encouragement. So this year…….My two brothers have deserted me in this wonderful City to follow dreams. Charlie has moved to Paris where he is NUMBER 1 in the French itunes chart!!!!!!!!! How cool is that!!!! And Tom has flown to India for 3 months for some well deserved time out (and no doubt he’ll come back with a third album ready to record!) My eldest brother, Jo, surprised me at Christmas when he played me a dance track he’d composed and it was f***ing wicked! I’m going to have a go at putting some vocals on it so watch this space!!!! (He’s a dark horse that one eh!) I’m going to take on a brilliant manager, book a tour of the UK and play as many festivals as possible. I’ll be spending time in Paris for gigs, and also going out to Ireland. I’m going to be making lots more music, release a new album that will be available in shops and I’ll be appearing on Jools Holland. So keep in touch, tell me your plans, your dreams…… and may they all come true. Oh, and if you haven’t already had a lovely hand-wrapped album turn up on your doorstep then I would highly recommend the experience!!! he he he! Have a superb year!!!!! Love from Vashti x P.S Check out the video of my Dad on my page!!! Isn't he great!

Hello there!

How are you? Well, I am now officially a wandering gal with no place to call home! And liking it!

My cousin sent me a text earlier today to say that the Q Article is out now. He said there was a picture of me too which is cool. I haven't seen it yet as I just went and brought the wrong issue! Bugger! It's in the October addition - I'll get it later.

I just had a wonderful weekend down in Devon at a mini festival called Love In the Woods. Lots of my friends played and we all got nicely drunk together. A special treat for me was to sing with one of my best friends - Daniela Bove (in my top friends) whom I don't see enough of these days. Also playing was Danny Keane and Tom Fry with some great jazz, Max Greenwood, Spencer Jude Pearce, Sam Semple, Tom Baxter, My Dad, Greg Edwards - amongst lots of others who were very, very talented.
There were loads of families and little kiddies running around getting their faces painted, making masks and such-like. It was really lovely. In the middle of a valley, lots of greenery, a river (bloody cold) and swings from trees.

On another note, Thanks to all those who came down to The Cobden Club on wednesday night to see me and Hadar play. We really enjoyed it and look forward to our gig on 10th September at Ginglik. (Miranda Barber is also playing that night so you don't wanna miss it!)

Finally, I am rather proud that my brother Tom Baxter's song "Miracle" (co-written with the lovely Sam Semple) was played at the very end of The Olympics when they showed all the best bits! So me 'n the Baxter boys were there too! Super!! If you want to watch it it's at the end of the programme, last 5 mins or so...

Enough of my rambling's. I hope you are well and happy!

Love from Vashti x
