So, California's Proposition 8 was upheld. (Except that the existing marriages still stand. Ah, the fun.) And efforts to overturn it by election in a year or two are beginning.

Let's help.

I've recorded a brand new version of "Two Guys Kissin' (Ruined My Life)". What I would like is a really good video to go with it.

1. The video should at least mention overturning Proposition 8. This can be as simple as putting "Overturn Prop 8" in the end credits.

2. Credit for the song should be in the end credits as well:

3. Entries should be posted to YouTube by June 30, 2009. Let me know about them by e-mailing me, filkertom at yahoo dot com.

4. The video I think is the coolest wins the video creator three download albums of their choice.

Oh, and, I hope you like this version of the song. :)

Best,
Tom

Morning, all -- I hope your week is going well. I had a traumatic experience, and i just had to share it with you in a song.

Truly, that most terrifying moment in a comedy-based career: when everything the media, the advertisers, the cliche-writers tell you... makes perfect sense. On that fateful day, you, yes, you, may discover that you're "Out Of Snark".

On other fronts, I'm doing some more work on my main web site, and I actually should have most everything in place by the weekend, at last at last. I'm going to be seriously updating my list of podcasters. If you play my stuff, and I haven't got you on the list, please e-mail me with your details. Many thanks.

Best,
Tom

Hey, everybody! Hope you're doing well. It's been a long, beautiful spring, and here's to a long, beautiful summer.

Just so you know, I have a new downloadable album today! More Than FuMP: Songs of The FuMP, Vol. 2 contains all the stuff I did for The Funny Music Project over the past sixteen months, as well as a few other things I did at odd moments. Fifteen tracks, 192 Kbps, only $8.99.

And, I finally made a really substantial overhaul to Tom Smith Online. Not everything's in place, but all the places are there... and I completely redid the Lyrics section, and added all the albums that weren't there yet, and there are also separate pages for each album. Give it a look -- I think you'll like it. :)

Best, Tom

New song today! And it's a hard-hitting investigative piece on privacy issues, sexual objectification, and the blurred line between mischief and the criminal misuse of technology.

Okay, it's actually about the saddest and lamest version of cyber-girl-watching: "Cruisin' For Chicks On Google Maps". I hope you like it!

This weekend is PenguiCon in Romulus, MI (at the beautiful Crowne Plaza Hotel just north of Detroit Metro Airport), and it should be a blast and a half, at least. All kindsa great guests, including, at last, Wil Wheaton! Musically, we've got Frank Hayes, The Great Luke Ski, Rob Balder, Carrie Dahlby... and me. ;) I'll be performing all three days, and I should have copies of at least one new album there, so come on down!

The Ides of Taxes are upon you! Hope your week is going fine, gang. Just a quick note, as a new song hit today. Couldn't have hit last week when I could've maybe gone viral, no no no no no, that would be too easy. :) Sill, I hope you like it -- just a quick silly about the protests over the terrible fascist slight increase on rich peoples' taxes. It's called "Tea Hee" and it's a free download. More new stuff soon.

Take care,
Tom

So, there's this benefit concert coming up, starting this Friday. At least 12 days long, 24/7 (it's also a legit attempt to get into the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest continuous concert), to help those of us affected by the troubles of the Big 3 automakers. Here in Southeastern Michigan, that's ultimately everybody.

I'm in. Tuesday, March 31, 9:00-10:00 a.m., at AJ's Music Cafe on 9 Mile Road in Ferndale, MI. If you can be there, it would be fantastic.

And their How You Can Help page lists ideas and donation options. This is one of those We're All In It Together So We Might As Well Have Some Fun things, and since we're all in it together, we might as well have some fun. :)

Sorry it's been awhile since I posted anything here. It's been a busy time. But I figured today was a good day to hype some friends and their work: the online journal Anthrozine; new stuff up at Accidental Centaurs; the always hilarious Something Positive; a brand-new vertical Sunday strip format for Kevin & Kell; and an animated storyboard Bill Holbrook did for a prospective animated special that hasn't worked out yet -- you may recognize at least one of the singers. ;)

And what do all of these things have to do with each other, besides that I think they're great and talented folks?

New album.

Sins of Commission 2 is another batch of songs I wrote for people, and I'm pretty darn proud of 'em. There's romance, fantasy, lullaby, gaming madness, and a tribute to the late Jim Baen, not to mention songs for Anthrozine, Accidental Centaurs, Something Positive, and Kevin & Kell. And, it's on sale for only $6.99 until the end of the month.

You also might notice that the web site has been slightly buffed up. This is an ongoing process, and there'll be a lot of new stuff later this week. If you have any problems with it, please post them in this LiveJournal thread, with the subject "Website Bug Report". Thanks.

Greetings, all! I hope your holiday season is fun, festive, safe and affordable, with precisely as much snow as you want. (I'm in Ann Arbor, MI, and somebody apparently confused cubic inches and metric tons -- we got 4" in 2-1/2 hours and it's still coming down.)

Anyway, this bulletin is just to announce a little sale I'm having at my main site. I've put a bunch of the download albums on sale, and added two concerts from earlier this year (also at discount prices). And, if you don't have it already, the kinda-rough-but-very-fun-and-hey-it-was-done-in-one-frickin-day Badgers and Gophers and Squirrels Oh My is free. Sale ends 12/31/08.

I also knocked a buck off And They Say I've Got Talent and The Last Hero On Earth on the web page. That's a permanent change, along with lowering the at-gig retail price for the full-size-case CDs to $15.00. (Yes, I've been losing a dollar in postage on Plugged and Debasement Tapes. They're older albums; seemed a thing.)

I should have some new stuff around the beginning of the year. In the meantime, take care, and Happy Holidays!

Best,
Tom

Happy Thanksgiving to each and every one of you. I hope your day is excellent, and I hope you've got a lot to be thankful for.

An unexpected circumstance led to me having a new song at The Funny Music Project this week. "Cooking For 93" is not meant as a slam on anybody's family, including especially mine. Except for those times when it is. Ohhhhh, those bitter, bleak times when it is.

Sorry I haven't updated in awhile, but October turned out kinda busy. Fortunately, I've at least got a new song up this morning at The Funny Music Project. And, it's completely nonpolitical in any way. I got the idea for "Redneck Ninjas" a bit over a year ago, and finally beat on the gol-dang thing till it seemed to work. I hope you like it.

In other news, I'm gonna be at WindyCon in suburban Chicago next weekend -- two sets on Saturday. I hope you can make it out there!

Best,
Tom
