Hello

We’ve just been told that iTunes UK have named The Sleeper/A Product Of The Ego Drain as their album of the year in the Singer/Songwriter genre. Thanks iTunes!
With this and the Rough Trade Album of the Year and the Ivor Novello nomination, we’re feeling pretty proud of our debut year. We’re going to work harder than ever so that 2010 takes things further still.

The Sleeper has been named a Rough Trade album of the year.

See the Top 10 here.

We're back from a fun show in Amsterdam, very much looking forward to Leeds, Birmingham and London.

Hello Again,

To pre-empt the re-release of The Sleeper - on Monday - our friends at The Line Of Best Fit are streaming the companion EP A Product Of The Ego Drain. It features demos, B-Sides, the new single & also our freshly recorded cover of Gary Numan's Cars. If you want a peek, go here -

We're just back from playing a session on George Lamb's 6 Music show. It was fun but Lambo seemed slightly pre-occupied by Olivia Newton John, who was listening in the adjacent room!

Putting the finishing touches to our cover of Inchworm over the next couple of days. It's sounding really beautiful already (even if I do say so myself) - kinda like Gene Wilder jamming with Buddy Holly over a sleepy circa 1940 MGM movie score. We're doing it for an American Laundromat Records charity album called Sing Me To Sleep.

Lots of other recordings on the boil too. More news to follow....

Hello Everyone,

Just a reminder that our new version of Save It For Someone Who Cares is released today, backed with a new recording of a very old LS song, Bona Fide.  Also it's your last chance to pre-order the album with our brand-new sparkly tees.

We've just had an amazing animated video made for the single, based on Matt Lloyd's album artwork, which is very exciting! Should be up on this site in the next few days all being well.

Finally, thanks to everyone who's turned out to see us play over the summer. It's been a lot of fun &, remarkably, we managed to secure sunshine-skies for every one of our numerous festival appearances.... something of a miracle on these soggy shores.   We're going to be taking a few months off from gigging so we can work on the next album. Before we do though we're heading off for a week in Europe & then doing 3 dates in England. Hope you can make it out to see us at one of the shows, otherwise, see you next Spring with album two!

Love,

Nick.x

PS - just found out that Brian Eno is a fan of The Sleeper!!! I know it's not cool to name-drop but I've been bursting to tell everyone since I found out (including strangers in the street). Here's what Eno said at a recent lecture he gave at California State University - "The only other thing I've been listening to lately with enthusiasm is an English band called The Leisure Society, a record called 'Sleeper'. Such a beautiful album. It's just such a nice record to listen to." .... wow.

2. A Short Weekend Begins With Longing (Original Demo)
3. Cars (Gary Numan Cover)
4. A Passing Thought
5. Pancake Day
6. If God Did Give Me A Choice
7. Bonafide
8. The Wayfarer

You can also get your hands on the first ever (official!) Leisure Society t-shirt if you pre-order The Sleeper from Full Time Hobby now.

SAVE IT FOR SOMEONE SINGLE

Our 3rd single from The Sleeper will be 'Save It For Someone Who Cares' - we re-recorded it from scratch with a live approach and we've already booked in a couple of BBC radio sessions - more on those soon.  It comes out on September 28th on VINYL & DOWNLOAD.  We also have a rather special animated video being made.  Look and listen out for it!

MOJO RISING

Lastly, you can find our cover of 'Something' on this month's MOJO magazine.  They have re-made the album with a selection of artists covering each track.  There's also a feature on us in there.  Have a look here.

To those of you who have been out to see us at festivals recently - thank you!  We've been overwhelmed by the support you all throw our way.  Every time we see people singing along we get choked up!

See you soon,

Hello Everyone,

You may have heard all the hullabaloo over the recent Ivors nomination for Last Of The Melting Snow. It's been a strange few weeks involving lots of interviews & the like, things that I never in a million years imagined I'd be doing.... best tabloid headline "IVOR NOT GOT A CLUE WHO HE IS EITHER"

So tomorrow is the big day. You know, it doesn't really matter if we win, the exposure for the song & album has been invaluable to a band with a self-released Willkommen production. Buuuuut, it's always nice to win isn't it?  I had a bad omen at the weekend, when trying on my new 'award ceremony suit' Elbow's epic stirring (rival nominee) song came on the shop's stereo.... Folks, I'm predicting another clean sweep for the lovely Mr Garvey & Co.

The best news to report is I have quit the day job. My last day is the day after the Ivors, for that I predict a pale complexion, wobbly legs & a sore head. After that it's all about getting stuck into the next Leisure Society album, which makes me very happy.

Fingers & toes crossed please.

Love,

Nick.x

ps - sorry if I've failed to reply to any mail lately, it's been a manic few weeks.

Morning All,

I woke at 4am - damn insomnia striking at both ends of the day lately - so thought I might as well shout about our new album before heading off to work.  It took 3 years to write, 2 years (on & off) to record & is finally released today. We're full of apprehension & excitement & hope you all like it.

The kind people at Rough Trade have made us record of the week - http://www.roughtrade.com/

As have Tuna The Day - http://www.tunatheday.com/go/home

The tour got off to the best possible start. Two sell-out shows with the most wonderful audiences. Thank you if you came along to The Luminaire or The Louisiana. We resume in Middlesbrough on Friday, really looking forward to heading North with the full band for the first time. Maybe I'll finally win a hand of cards on the long drive up there.... I think we're all at a distinct advantage as Mike & Will are the only ones who know the rules (string section wist, a game they devised themselves... hmmm).

Hope to see you soon!

Love,

Nick - Sleepless in Streatham.

Hello there,

Our friends at Line Of Best Fit are kindly sponsoring the Leisure Society tour, which commences tomorrow. We're very excited indeed, hopefully be in a town near you soon. They've also written a very flattering review of the Sleeper that you'll find here -

http://www.thelineofbestfit.com/2009/03/the-leisure-society-the-sleeper/

Also, the lovely folk at Subba-Cultcha interviewed myself & Christian recently. If you're interested you can hear what we had to say here -

http://www.subba-cultcha.com/article_feature.php?id=5917

I'm enjoying the, all too rare blue skies, London's finest pizza (Franco Manca) & a 3 weeks off work to promote the album. Happy times!

Love,

Nick.

Hello Folks,

The last two weekends have been spent recording radio sessions for Resonance FM & Radio 2. It's rapidly becoming our favourite way to spend time, there's something very rewarding about all playing together in the nicely controlled environment of the radio studio. Mind you it does get pretty cosy cramming all 7 of us in there.

If you missed our Dermot O'Leary session on Saturday you can listen here -

Hope you enjoy it.

Love,

Nick.
