Hello,

It is with my head held high that I reach out to you today.  Although my Presidential dreams have not come to pass, I feel like I ran an honorable and heartfelt campaign.  The American people have spoken, and the words "Here's your morning donut, President Anguish" did not cross their lips.

It was an uphill battle the whole way.  With no party backing and scant funds ($37.55 doesn't buy you any airtime ever, not even during a Rays/Phillies World Series), I knew it would be a challenge getting out my message.  Having a message would have helped, too, but that's just second guessing.  When the leading candidate outspends you 17,310,252 to 1, you're in trouble.

"Anguish For America" might not have been the best campaign slogan, either.

I plan on ending my campaign in grand fashion.  Friday night at O'Brien's I'll be hosting "Johnny Anguish's First Annual I Am Not The President Elect Ball."  My band, Dirt Mall, will be playing.  Joining us on the bill will be some of my biggest dirty tricksters... er... supporters:  Watts, The Radio Knives, and Chicago's other favorite sons, The Safes.  If you have not seen The Safes before, it would do your rock n' roll soul some good to check them out.

Come early and stay late for this one, folks.  It's going to be a goodie.

Greetings,

There's a new review of Got The Goat By The Horns up at The Snilch Report that claims "This is a very good album." Who are we to argue?

There's also a review over at Room Thirteen that we somehow missed.  Here's a bit of what they had to say:

"'Step Up,' with an AC/DC riff that Angus Young would be happy with, [is] a head banging and foot tapping masterpiece…whilst the epically titled song, 'I'm Not Saying What You Did Was Wrong But Your Timing Could Have Been Better' could be a big jam between The Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd and T-Rex. It's straight up rock'n'roll with some '70's injection of rock attitude and a slight Southern Rock feel…nice stuff. This only leaves us with the slow and rather contemplative last track, 'Ghosts Descend' that has a haunting rock quality of The Doors if they really let rip with guitars and blew up their organ… "

In other news, our show at O'Brien's with The Safes and The Radio Knives is coming up soon.  Watch for more info on that one.

Well, well, well.  What do we have here?  Two new reviews of "Got The Goat By The Horns" and an interview to boot!

Ray's Realm lavished this praise:

"[T]he disc finishes with it's strongest song, the massive "Ghosts Descend," in which Johnny Anguish and Jason "Jay" Murray let loose a riff mid-song that Mr. Iommi would have given his left hand for in 1972. Good stuff? Oh yeah, this is that & then some."

There's also a snazzy interview with Jay and Johnny up on the site.

Elsewhere on the information superhighway, Heavy Metal Addiction had this to say:

"Is there a better song title than the Ramones/Led Zeppelin influenced 'I'm Not Saying What You Did Was Wrong But Your Timing Could Have Been Better'? If this song was out 15 years ago, it would have been the soundtrack of my 21st year! Listen for the Jimmy Page lick from 'Rock 'N Roll' halfway through the song."

That's the latest from reviewland.  Oh, you'll have to actually read these electronic publications to find out what all this has to do with Paul Stanley and unicorn bites.

We're huge in Belgium.  Seriously.  Well, we should be anyway.

With this latest review of Got The Goat By The Horns from Rock Report
, we have a perfect record of positive reviews from Belgium:

"I seldom had more fun listening to an album the first time around as with this one. And not because Dirt Mall is funny but because they are one hell of a rock band."  Read More

Oh, and we've got a show coming up at The Abbey on 6/28 with Brendan Boogie Band, The Luxury, and Soap Stars.  More details to come on that one.

There's a great new review of "Got The Goat By The Horns" over at Loucifer Speaks.  Check it out:

"Dirt Mall have crafted their own brand of rock. You really couldn't mistake this CD for being anyone else... and that's a really good thing and quite an achievement."

Thanks Lou!

This is exciting news!  Check out Dirt Mall Rock in the latest issue of Classic Rock Magazine.  Our song "Medicate (Today)" is on the Sons of Gun III CD put together by Sleazegrinder that comes free attached to the cover of the magazine.  Awesome.  Those of us here in the US will probably have to wait a bit until we can pick up a copy, but keep an eye out for this:

What's even cooler is that because of a printing errors, we're actually on the cover of the CD! Now tens of thousands of people are going to be seeing our mugs on the cover. Well, technically not our mugs, but the mugs of Elvis Costello, Ted Nugent, Barry Manilow, and Madonna.  Read all about the goof here.

Our good friend John Blout (of the fablulous Watts) also sent us this scan of Sleazegrinder's review of Got The Goat By The Horns from the March 2008 issue of Classic Rock Magazine:

Like I said, exciting news...

Hi,

Everything's coming up roses for Dirt Mall lately (if by everything you mean finding a couple of good reveiws of our new record on the internet).  Here is what some people with impeccable music taste think of "Got The Goat By The Horns".

Let's start with Craig Hartranft over at dangerdog.com:

"Weekly, I get music from around the world. Dirt Mall left me surprised and impressed. Their feigned humility is their best asset only because they have songs and talent to back it up. Dirt Mall's 'Got The Goat By The Horns' is an extremely fine effort from a promising band. The only flaw in this work is that it is too short. Yet, what they have done is quite impressive. Very recommended!"

Read the full review at dangerdog.com.

Here's another goodie from the fine folks at PlugInMusic.com:

"From the very beginning, Dirt Mall takes full command on their debut album "Got The Goat By The Horns." With charging riffs and a few hot licks..."

Read the full review at PlugInMusic.com.

Now go buy the record.  You can also download it from iTunes if you have to have it right this second.  Hooray!

Thanks to everyone who came out to support us (and local music in general) at the WBCN Rumble last night.  Humanwine deservingly took the night, but we had a blast (school night sleep deprivation and Johnny’s hacking cough sickness aside).  The Shills and The Murder Mile were fantastic as well.

In case you missed the big event last night, Johnny Arguedas (of power-posters The Sneaks) posted some great pictures of all the action.  Check ’em out here.
