I confess. I like Sarah Palin. Not committed to her as President just yet
but I wouldn't write her off either.

What amuses me is the assumption among all the people who hate her so much is that she is, in the phrase of the above headline, somehow so hot that middle aged guys forget they want the country protected and the economy shepherded. I'd elect a gargoyle if I could be assured those things would be handled correctly.

What I really think is going on is that the supporters of a certain god-like figure who presently holds the Oval Office are desperately afraid of her, and don't want him to have to face someone that a sizeable part of the country likes as much if not more than him.

And just by the way do you think Peter King's rant about Michael Jackson will get him elected governor of
New York? I'd be surprised if it hurt.

I know she hasn't said anything about it and maybe I'm jumping the gun.

But... I've noticed these stories popping up about Michelle Obama ordering her staff to get with the President's staff and find some issues in which she (Michelle) can take a leading role in shaping policy.

Methinks... uh oh... here we go again.

Hillary tried this. And by the time she ran for President I had become convinced that she was as qualified as anybody else. She did go to school in the U.S. Senate, and she probably had a reasonable amount of exposure to foreign policy types around the (Bill)
Clinton
administration.

And the first evidence of her ambitions, of course, was trying to take over a health care initiative that her husband, the president, wanted to see pass into law.

So here we have Michelle Obama, flush with the historic first of her husband's election, butting into serious policy inside the White House, and pardon me, but I smell presidential ambitions.

Am I so wrong to be suspicious?

Foxnews.com has those pictures from Michael Jackson's last rehearsal.

I must say he did look emaciated but not bad. And the reports from the photographer and others at the rehearsal were that he still had all his old moves and looked like he was going to do the show of his life. Or 50 shows of his life or whatever number he could get through.

And there is the news of his estate. Record sales are probably going to wipe out his debts, and his family will have about $200 million to split up. Michael could blow though that pretty fast, but maybe his family members will be a little more sensible.

And I think I'm seeing the Michael Jackson Grand Plan. His body will lie in state at Neverland Ranch, and my guess is that he always wanted his own
Graceland
, so now he's got it.

The picturesque Santa Ynez Valley just north of
Santa Barbara in California will now be the gathering place for disconsolate Jackson fans just as Memphis
was for bereaved Elvis fans.

It will be a tourist destination. You'll be able to buy a keepsake. You'll see Michael dance, and you will hear him sing.

It will be a place where millions will go every year to remember the great Michael Jackson.

He died young. Come see his beloved
Neverland.

That's how he will be remembered.

Choreographed, you might say, by the dancer himself.

Why am I getting hammered on this one?

I've got a lot of angry women calling today saying I'm all wrong. What could I be wrong about?
Sanford abandoned his job, his wife, and his kids. He might as well resign as governor, husband and father, and just go to Argentina.
His girlfriend is there, and nobody cares about him there.

So what's wrong with that? Can someone tell me?

The women calling seem to think he's committed such a heinous crime he shouldn't get anything he wants, least of all his girlfriend. So is this just about revenge?

By the way, his wife Jenny seems to be fine with him gone. She's got the kids. She doesn't have financial concerns. She seems to be glad not to have to look at him everyday.

But I liked him. As a music business veteran I listened to the records closely, and there was somebody making those records that were very very good.

And I can't believe it was just the producer. I must give MJ credit for driving the producer and the musicians.

I'm old school music biz, I guess. It's fun to chase these people around for the goofy things they do, but ultimately the only reason to be interested in them is that they are good or great artists.

If Michael Jackson were a lousy singer, who would care about the other things he did? He would be just another miscreant... or accused miscreant... we wouldn't feel much about him one way or another.

The fact that he was a great artist is the reason people care about him, and are interested in whatever he does, the good and the bad.

I've seen this happen a lot.

I guess he did have to come out and say something.

But it was too much. I could have done with less.

I expect to hear people talking about "the heart" in movies. Not under the rotunda in the state house.

I expect to see a story about a governor going awol to visit his girlfriend in
Buenos Aires. I
n the movies. Not under the rotunda in the state house.

I expect to read squirm inducing love emails on the big screen in the movies, in a fictional story where the hero gets caught doing something stupid but he's real and authentic as well as vulnerable and devastated. In the movies. Not under the rotunda in the state house.

This is a very painful situation, obviously, for the people involved. But when it is so painful for the people watching that they can't bring themselves to behave in the usual manner--mocking and deriding the people caught red handed--it's obviously too much.

Sanford screwed up. He's a politician so he has to own up. But this is one of those situations where I almost wish he would do what we normally consider to be the wrong thing--refuse to talk about it.

Ok, I was willing to suspend disbelief for Mark Sanford till we found out what happened.

Now we found out. He was with his girlfriend in Buenos Aires
.

Ugh.

Now I have to quit defending him. Christine was right. But it was pure luck. If you always bet that men are dogs, a cocker spaniel will turn up from time to time.

So he's done.

Let's move on and find a Republican the liberals can't trail around snooping on.

Buenos Aires? You got admit trying to sneak off to Argentina took some cojones.

Smoking is bad.

Good people sometime do bad things.

Some bad things are not as bad as other bad things.

Cigarettes might be one of those bad things not as bad as other bad things.

After all, if it is a way to kill human beings (I am expressing no doubts about that) it is at least slow and not as much murder as shooting someone with a gun.

And if it is obnoxious, well at least smokers know their place now--far away from civilized people who don't smoke.

And if it is killing our kids, well, let's see what we can do to stop it.

But the president is an adult. He is the president of the United States
, no small job.

Shouldn't the president be given the small amount of space he needs to engage in his one vice... an occasional cig?

I see that he goes out to the wooded grove next to the swimming pool to grab a smoke. How embarrassing.

I hear he uses the tennis court... again... why?

Can't he stop out on the portico overlooking the south lawn and light up? Sasha and Jalia might already be in bed; Michelle might be still meeting with her staff about what wonderful thing she is going to be doing the next day.

The president needs a moment to himself. He needs a smoke break.

Join with me as I campaign tirelessly for the president's right to smoke. I don't want him jones-ing when he's supposed to be saving the free world.

Honest.

Christine is addicted to Jon and Kate Plus Eight.

She's been watching this couple fight for the last five years. Fight about anything and everything right in front of their eight kids.

It's been a slow rolling train wreck.

Jon and Kate fight about the hair clips in the little girls' hair, about the flip flops the kids are wearing. She bosses him around, makes fun of his weight, belittles him in any way she can think of. He mopes and gets defensive and walks out of the room.

It's must see tv.

Christine has seen it all. She thinks Jon is an immature dolt. She defends Kate, because well, you have to be bossy to keep eight kids in line, as well as riding herd on the infantile husband.

What we saw last night was Jon reach into his wife's purse to retrieve his pair. He's tired of being pushed around.

And Kate is unhappy because what good is to be bossy unless you have someone to boss around?

Don't get me wrong. She'll still have Jon to kvetch at, but just not as much.

They will continue to fight. They just won't be married.

And the kids will continue to watch the train wreck parents have.
