Get with it!

www.myideaoffun.org

Johnstown, Pennsylvania artist collective.  Good stuff.  The best stuff.

So, if you go to that site, you'll notice that the My Idea of Fun Never-ending Tour is kicking off here pretty soon.  Please make sure to check the dates and come to a show near you.  The first My Idea of Fun Tour will feature Drought and Hark!.  Jacob Koestler will be there with his photography.  There will be an extensive My Idea of Fun Collection of books, CDs, tapes, DVDs and other fun stuff.

Drought is a fantasic band, as is Hark!  Check them out:
Drought - www.myspace.com/droughtoflife
Hark! doesn't have a website.  They are a noisy, dancy post-punk band featuring Matt, Jacob, Ben, and Josh from the Beagle Club.
Jacob Koestler - www.myspace.com/thedailycamera

The Beagle Club will be doing the My Idea of Fun tour in mid-June with The Sunflower Spectacle.  Those dates will be posted as soon as we get them all finalized.  They're almost all finalized, so it shouldn't be long.  Keep checking back, though.

Also, if you go to www.myideaoffun.org and browse around the releases, you'll notice some new Beagle Club stuff.  Three new recordings, actually.

The first is super-old.  "Welcome to Vermont," a recording of our set on a street corner at Brattleboro-fest 2007, is finally up and available to download for free.

The second recording is "Endless Mike VS. The Beagle Club: The Rematch."  This is the same thing as the first "VS." recording, but with me playing "We Are Still At War" solo.  It's free to download.

And the third new release from us is titled "Mike Miller: Two Lectures."  This is the recording of when I was a guest lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown last fall.  Both lectures are up.  They're pretty big files, but check them out if you can. This is free, too.

And make sure to look at all the My Idea of Fun releases.  Almost everything is finally up to date on the site.  There is so much good music on there that you won't know what to do with yourself.

Also, make sure to check out the "blog" section - all anonymous posts of sketches, photos, works in progess, masterpieces.  Feel free to add to it.  We really want you to add to it.

Thanks so much!  Make sure you tell your friends!

Hi there.  So, it's almost the end of 2008, and with that in mind, we're putting up a new song called "Snake Eyes."  In the lyrics, it talks about how the year is almost over.  However, since it's going to be on an album that won't be out until sometime next year, I really wanted to let you hear it before it's instantly irrelevant.  It will still be on the next record, in all of its irrelevant glory, but I just wanted to put it out there while it is still current, I guess.

We've also posted another new song, this one a demo for a song tentatively titled "Strange Little Stories."  Like I said, it's just a demo.  A different version of it will appear on the next record, but since we were already putting up one new song, I figured, why not put up one more?

So there you go.  If you only have time to listen to one of them, listen to "Snake Eyes," before it's SOOOO 2008.  Put it on your Christmas mixes so people can hear it before New Year's.  Haha.

Alright, cool.  Let us know what you think.

Later,

Mike

P.S. Both new songs are available for download.  At least they're supposed to be.  I checked the "Make it downloadable" button here on Myspace for them, but I have no idea if it worked or what it's problem is.  Anyway, if they are downloadable, then download them.  I'll probably be taking them off the site after New Year's.  Cool.  Later.  For real this time.

Hello there.  How's it going?

I'd like to invite you to the Christmas show at 709 Railroad Street in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.  It's going to be full of fun and surprises and I'd love for every one of you to be there if you can!  Here are the details:

Where: 709 Railroad Street

709 Railroad Street
Johnstown, PA 15901

When: Saturday, Dec. 27th at 1:00pm-???

Cost: $8.00 or $6.00 with a canned good

The Beagle Club will be playing during the My Idea of Fun Artist Collective's set, which is first, at 1:00pm, so try to get there early.  It's going to be a blast, and I hope you can make it and I'd love for everyone to get to see everything that Johnstown and My Idea Of Fun has to offer.

Secondly,  we're going on tour in January.  We'll be coming through as a nine piece and we'll have copies of our new 7 inch split with Mischief Brew, Guitar Bomb, and The Wingnut Dishwashers' Union!

I've posted the basics under the "shows" section, and I'll fill in the details as they come.

Notice that there are two shows (Athens, GA and Atlanta, Ga) that need local bands.  If you are in a band from either Athens or Atlanta (or close by) and would like to play one of these shows, please write to me at beagleclub2000@yahoo.com.  Both shows are confirmed, all we need are more bands.  So get in touch!

We also need help in Alabama, hopefully Huntsville or Birmingham or somewhere nearby.  As always, anywhere would be great: houses, spaces, garages, bars, whatever.  Write to us at beagleclub2000@yahoo.com or get in touch through the myspace and we'll make it happen!  Thanks so much.

I guess that's about it.  I hope to see you at the X-mas show and if not there, then when we come to you in January.

Later,
Mike

Hi.  It's been a little while since any kind of update on the site, so I figured I'd do that today.  There's actually a ridiculous amount of stuff going on for all of us, and though it seems like it would fall under the "too many to list" category, I'm listing it all anyway (and will probably still forget some things).

We've been playing shows a bunch around home and doing some weekend tour things.  They've been going really well.  Here's some really big news:  The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (UPJ) is using "We Are Still At War" as part of a compostion class dealing in contemporary American literature.  So about 50 students had to buy the CD from the UPJ bookstore and they have to listen to it and then think about it and write about it.  This is pretty much the biggest thing that could ever happen to me.  It's one of those things you don't let yourself wish for too much because it's so strange it probably won't ever happen.  But it is.  I'll be going in on October 28th to give a lecture and to answer questions.  I'm really nervous about it, but I'm looking forward to it, too.

I have been writing like crazy.  I have about 15 new Beagle Club songs already and I'm still writing.  I don't know what they're going to be.  Right now, I'm just writing songs and not worrying about it.

We have a four-way split seven inch coming out in mid December.  One side is Endless Mike and the Beagle Club/ Wingnut Dishwasher's Union, and the other side is Mischief Brew/Guitar Bomb.  We are planning to do a tour with Mischief Brew when the split comes out.  More on that as it gets closer, I'm sure.

I wrote an essay for Jacob Koestler's latest book of photography called "Sound Structures."  It's not just like an intro or anything, it's this poem-essay-thing that runs throughout the whole book.  Anyway, "Sound Structures" is going to be released on November 14th.  You can order it then from www.myideaoffun.org.  There will be an opening reception at 709 Railroad Street on that date as well, here in Johnstown.  I hope you come or at least check it out online.  The book is fantastic, if I do say so myself!

Speaking of 709, our art space/rock venue is really up and running.  We're like super-organized with it these days.  Check us out and add us online at www.myspace.com/709railroadstreet.  Come out to a show!  Get on a show!  Just get involved!

Anyway, thanks for sticking with us.  It means a whole lot.  We'll be around, so keep an eye out.

Mike

so, you can hear our new record, "we are still at war," in its entirety at www.punknews.org/bands/endlessmikeandthebeagleclub.  pretty cool, eh?  check it out and let your friends know, please.

i would also like to extend an invitation to all of you to invite me to play a show in your house/town/venue/whatever.   throughout the month of september, i'd like to play some solo shows.  i'll still be doing beagle club songs, both old and new, and i'd like very much to do a show with you.  any friday, saturday, sunday, or monday would be absolutely fine.  it could be just about anywhere within reason, seeing as though i'll be travelling in a car by myself, so gas won't be the issue that it is whenever big casaer rolls up hauling 15 people and a trailer.  not that i minded that, either.  whatever.

anyway, yeah.  ask me to play somewhere sometime.  i'll be there.  the beagle club, as a big old band, will always exist.  we're not breaking up.  we're not done playing together.  nothing like that.  i'd just like to play by myself once in a while, like i did when this whole thing started.

all shows listed on this page are full-band shows and should be assumed to be full-band shows unless otherwise noted.

thanks a bunch of everything.  i hope to hear from you soon.

we are going on tour from june 8th until june 21st, and we'll be doing it as a full-blown-fifteen piece band!

by now, we all know how this band works.  there's a bunch of us in it, right?  so when we play, not everybody makes it to the show.  and that's cool.

but this time, in celebration of the release of our new record "we are still at war," all of us are coming.  we wrote it together.  we recorded it together.  now we're going to see it through all the way and all go on tour together!

the tour is booked.  the dates are up on the page.  if there is any additional info that hasn't been posted yet, it will be shortly.  and if it still isn't, write to me and i'll make sure to get you all the answers.

some shows we'll be playing with dan oatman, a wonderful singer-songwriter from johnstown, pa.  some shows we'll be doing with boy, a wonderful singer-songwriter from portsmith, nh (actually, she'll be an official johnstown transplant by then.  for more info on that, read the "move to johnstown" blog entry on this site).  some shows we'll be doing with the riot before, a wonderful punk band from richmond, va.  and we'll be doing all shows with "the daily camera," a wonderful book of photography that is a "best-of" of a website of the same name.

so come on out!  it's really going to be a lot of fun.  i can promise that much.  if nothing else, it will surely be a spectacle and it's one that i hope you don't miss!

Hi there.  Our new album, "We Are Still At War" is finished.  It's done.  It's ready to go.

We recorded all thirteen new songs live at 709 Railroad St, the newly opened artspace/venue/warehouse in downtown Johnstown.  We wrote this album and arranged it as a fifteen piece band.  So this is the first time every single member of the Beagle Club has been in on every step of the songs, and it's the first time I think we have recorded an album that sounds like we do live.  Because it is live, after all.

My friends keep telling me that it's their favorite one of ours, so that means a whole lot.  To me, anyway.  You can be the judge of that, I guess!  They are my friends, after all.

Anyway, we're really really excited about it.  I hope you are, too.

You can order the album at www.craftyrecords.net starting Tuesday, May 20th.  It's going to be the same price from the site as it would be if you just bought one from us at a show, plus it will come with some cool other stuff from us and from Crafty Records.

A huge thank you goes out to Dan from Crafty for having to put up with our ridiculous demands, and to Stick Martin for mastering the album under equally unreasonable conditions!  Thanks, guys.

And thank YOU for checking it out.  I hope you like it.  Let us know what you think!

See you soon,

Mike

hi.  what i'm saying might sound like a joke, or a weird idea that goes nowhere, but i assure you it is neither a joke, nor will it go nowhere.

we here in endless mike and the beagle club, on behalf of the my idea of fun artist collective, want you to move to johnstown, pennsylvania.  i'm serious.

johnstown is an hour and a half east of pittsburgh, so it's on the western side of PA, if that puts it into any perspective.  if you're going to mapquest it, use "15901" as the zip code.

johnstown used to be a steel town.  it is now a burned out skeleton of a once booming american manufacturing industry.  it is a city with a population of 23,906 as of the last census.  it is steadily decreasing in population, sadly.  young folks move out when they're done with school.  but that's because they don't know what we know:

this city, this scene, could be on the verge of being something great.  we're opening a warehouse/artspace/venue/hangout down town.  there are great bands and great people and great ideas happening every day.  and here's the kicker: it's cheap.

my wife and i rent a three story, three bedroom house with a dining room, living room, kitchen, basement, and two bathrooms, all for four hundred dollars a month.  and this is not the exception.  this is how low cost of living is around here, almost across the board.

if you're looking for a new place to live, consider johnstown.  but only if you want to be in on the ground level of something really great and meaningful.  i know we can do this.  i have never been more sure of anything in my life that we can do this.  if you want to, we would love for you to be a part of it, too.

write to me at beagleclub2000@yahoo.com if you have any questions at all, if you're considering it, if you just want to talk about it more.  i would love that and i will answer all questions without romanticizing or bullshitting in any way.  i promise.  it's not a great place, yet.  but it will be.  i promise that, too.

later,

mike
