Breast Cancer Network of Strength to Unmask Medical Heroes
Houston Doctors to be Honored at Mardi Gras-Themed Event

Houston (January 27, 2009) - The Texas Gulf Coast Affiliate of Breast Cancer Network of Strength is set to honor five Houston breast cancer doctors at its inaugural “Unmasking the Unsung Heroes” cocktail event on February 7, 2009. The event will pay tribute to outstanding caregivers who have been nominated by grateful breast cancer survivors and members of the Houston community. To their patients and peers, the evening’s honorees represent the most dedicated, innovative and compassionate doctors specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in the Houston area. The heroes to be “unmasked” at the event excel in areas beyond their slate of patient visits and research including cutting-edge breast restoration surgery, Hispanic community outreach, community service and fundraising. The honorees include:

· Dr. Aldona J. Spiegel - The Methodist Hospital/Cornell University
· Dr. Edgardo Rivera - The Methodist Hospital/Weill Cornell University
· Dr. Tanya Stephens - The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
· Dr. Kent Osborne - Baylor College of Medicine
· Dr. Jenny Chang - Baylor College of Medicine

The Mardi Gras-themed event will be emceed by ABC Channel 13’s award-winning journalist Melanie Lawson and will feature live music by the Stephen Richard Band, a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and dancing. The event will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the new Mosaic high-rise building at the Herman Park medical center of Houston, Texas. Event hosts are Sara Haynes, Lynette Jupp, Terri Robbins and Lesley Schlumberger. Event sponsors include Brighton Collectibles, Grant Thornton, Lesley Schlumberger, MCare Solutions Inc., Moroch Partners LLC, Mosaic, New leaf Publishing, Saigon Tex News and Tequila Rose. Individual tickets may be purchased for $125 by contacting Susan Lindsey at (713) 292-1045 x 8525.

About Breast Cancer Network of Strength™

Breast Cancer Network of Strength’s mission is to ensure, through information, empowerment and peer support, that no one faces breast cancer alone. The organization provides immediate emotional relief to anyone affected by breast cancer through the YourShoes™ 24/7 breast cancer support center, which includes the country’s only toll-free hotline staffed exclusively by breast cancer survivors. Formerly known as Y-ME, Breast Cancer Network of Strength raises money to fund YourShoes™, outreach programs, support groups, breast health awareness workshops, wigs and prostheses banks for women with limited resources and advocacy on breast cancer related policies. The Texas Gulf Coast Affiliate of Breast Cancer Network of Strength was established in 2004 to serve 43 Texas counties. Its goal is to increase breast cancer awareness and promote earlier detection in underserved populations. Visit BCNOS on the Web at http://www.networkofstrength.org/texasgulfcoast/
