I was listing the songs we play and I got interrupted by life, and besides I don't think I should write down more than a couple of songs at a time. I find it kind of hard to write, or maybe I'm just parsimonious in my writing. In any case . . . We play Dylan's "Maggie's Farm" pretty much like the original with the Butterfield Blues Band guys, only we use a bigger beat. Marty makes the beat almost sound like "Sing, Sing, Sing." "Work Song" was written by Nat Adderly, played by his brother, Cannonball's, band, and covered by a whole lot of people. Including The Butterfield Blues Band on their East/West album. Basically they play the melody through a couple of times and go into a standard minor blues progression then get back to the melody. We only play the melody once at the beginning and once at the end and just play the blues.

For history's sake, I might as well write down our set list. Usually the fans take care of this for the band, but given that we're our own biggest fans, we'll take it upon ourselves. On the sound check we played some of NRBQ's 12 bar blues. Then we noodled around on "Time is Tight," what I consider the greatest top-down convertible song. We actually got started by playing Bob Dylan's "Don't Ya Tell Henry," which in terms of spirit and arrangement, ours matches The Band's version more closely. "Smack Dab in the Middle" -- I'm guessing this is a Ray Charles composition. I've heard the Mills Brothers do this. I fell in love with the Ry Cooder version -- his chicken skin music phase. Ours is a more electric version, Jeff plays a surf-style guitar.

We had a great time at PD's. Lots of wonderful people showed up to enjoy the show. We'll be back there on February 25th.

We'll be at PD's on Forward Avenue in Squirrel Hill on Wednesday. We're ready for an audience. Is the audience ready for us?

Right now, we play nearly all covers. The Band, Bob Dylan, Little Feat, Gram Parsons, J. Geils, Ray Charles, and others. Mostly songs with a definite beat. Few chords. Lots of shouting. We like shouting.
