EAST COAST ROMPER REVIEW
VIEW OF A BURNING CITY-VOBC www.myspace.com/vobc It’s
a rare occasion when you hear a band so grossly underappreciated that
you just have to wonder why they haven’t been signed. How and why this
group hasn’t been picked by a major is beyond my comprehension.
Regardless, with an EP this great and innovative yet simultaneously
“retro” in a sense, VOBC is taking various forms of metal to new
frontiers. Without getting into a genre diatribe it could be said that
in just for songs you will hear “Classic Metal”, MOTORHEAD, high
register vocals a la KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and a borderline sludgy
combination of THE SWORD meets a southern tinged SKINLAB. The vocal
layering alone points out their willingness to take risks. The musical
backdrop was almost an incongruity at first but as each song progresses
you begin to understand their efforts and dare it be said…genius? They
obviously comprehend the ideology behind being meticulous yet
simplified when necessary. The fact that it challenges you from an
auditory perspective is reason enough to put forth the effort and get
their music. It also didn’t hurt their music by recording at Zing
Studios and having it mastered at Sterling Sound. Although the EP was a
bit of teaser (four songs) you just have to wonder what will happen
when they have the resources to put out a full length album. You never
want to imply that a band is the “next best thing” but VOBC have hit
pretty close to that mark with this release. Show your love for a local
band (Massachusetts) and support their efforts; you won’t be
disappointed. Reviewed By: B.

We have been working hard on the material for the new album day and night! The Recording will begin April 27th to May 1st at ZING STUDIO's with JIM FOGERTY. We wanted to do it right! Killswitch Engage, Unearth, Everytime i Die, From Autum to Ashes, and a ton of other great bands have recorded there. The Mastering will be done at STERLING SOUND in New York with GEORGE MARINO the same guy who's done work with Guns n' Roses, Kiss, Iron Maiden, Beatles, Dokken, L7, Slipknot, SoulFly, and so many more! New tunes will be up sometime in May, so be Patient!
INFO ON GEORGE MARINO - Looking through George Marino's discography, it is no surprise that he is a legend in the mastering business. As a young man in the early 70s, he began a streak of iconic albums that continues to this day. George joined Sterling Sound in the summer of 1973 where he has worked on many of the industry's most influential albums including recent Billboard chart toppers like Coldplay's "Parachutes", Bon Jovi's "Lost Highway", The Offspring's "Rise & Fall, Rage & Grace", Three Doors Down's eponymous release and Arctic Monkey's "Favourite Worst Nightmare" as well as Billboard classics including Journey's "Frontiers", Cyndi Lauper's "She's So Unusual", eponymous releases by both Kiss and The Cars, Motley Crue's "Dr. Feelgood" and Guns N' Roses "Appetite for Destruction" Kiss, and Billy Squier. George started as a musician, playing rock n' roll guitar in New York City bands. His first job in the industry was as a librarian and assistant at Capitol Studios in 1967. He then apprenticed in the mastering department, helping cut rock, pop, jazz and classical albums. When Capitol shut down its New York studio, and before heading to Sterling Sound, George joined the fledgling Record Plant, eventually becoming a partner in the recording-mastering studio. There he quickly established his reputation with projects such as Don McLean's "American Pie" and classic albums by the Allman Brothers Band and Stevie Wonder. As is clear in his discography, George is sought out for his versatility and dead-on instincts on how music should sound.
INFO ON JIM FOGARTY - Co-Founder of Zing Recording Studios, Jim Forgarty attended Berklee College of Music in 1988. There he received a Bachelar's Degree in Music Production and Engineering and has since engineered hundreds of projects for rock bands, singer/songwriters, traditional ensembles and even a musical. Jim plays piano, drums, guitar and bass and has lent those skills to many productions. His passion for music and versatility of musical styles are evident in his countless productions, from traditional Irish to Jazz to Hard Rock and Metal
