If you just need one or two gigs, send me a little email about it with the necessary details and I will see if I can help you out. If you need more than that, such as a tour or full time representation please send a CD and press kit to:

Shellie Bryant
110 Redbud Dr.
Middletown, OH 45042

Then followup with me and answer the questions I have previously posted in the blogs (copy and paste them into your mail program and fill in the blanks or mail them with your initial contact). You can emails things of importance like this, to me at sbryantbooking@yahoo.com you can also direct any questions regarding booking to that email.

I do not book for venues I book for bands, so all the people writing me about filling a slot or needing a band. I don't do that unless their is an existing relationship, the venue requests I build the bill, or the band I am booking asks for it. I book bands, not venues. If you need a specific show date and city contact me.

Thanks

Once I review your band, and decide to book you or not. I will ask you a series of questions that will allow me to get to know you more. If  I DO NOT contact you back chances are... you suck or you just dont fit with PE! But you can try again if you must. Here are some questions I will be asking your band if that time comes:

How long can you play for? Min and max.
What equipment to you need? If any....
What is a decent radius for you to be booked (other than tour dates) 50,100,150, 200...miles?
What days of the week are you looking to play?
How many shows would you like to have a month?
What
kind of promo do you want me to
do, if any?
Do you sell merchandise and if so what do you offer?
What kind of promo do you currently do now? Budget?
What are your goals as a band in the next 6 months to a year?
What kinds of venues do you want booked in? Other than bars....
Are you a sponsored band?

What are some accomplishments you have made as a band, have you won any awards, other successful touring, sponsorship, new releases, major press?

Are there any other members of management? Such as a manager, booker,
sponsor, label, etc... That I may need to talk to occasionally?
Do you have a digital music file for the entire album of some sort of download available for potential gigs, fans, press?
Please also include:

All info you have related to the band in print and online. Web addresses, epk pics, anything you got. Any
and all press you have would also be helpful. I will need more eventually and as things start to happen I will request it then.

Send at least 2 CD's (1 burned and 1 retail (if available) and a hard copy press kit to:

Here are some questions bands have asked recently so instead of answering every band I actually have interest in booking, here are some FAQ's. Enjoy...

What are the terms of exclusivity with PE Booking?

They are simple, the dates you give me to book you are what I book, no one else should be working on those dates. Otherwise I would be wasting my time. If I book you full time, then myself, people in the band, or other
bands are the only ones allowed to book you.

Can we book shows on our own, or with another booking company if we're heading to another part of the country or if we have a specific contact in a city?

Absolutely you can book your own shows, in fact I encourage it especially for local gigs, it makes no sense for me to just jump into those
relationships you have already built. Another booker doing it for you
is fine, as long as I am not also working on the date. But don't call me
a week before you need a gig because the other booker could not do
their job. To fill a date.

Is there a term length for a contract, and how will either party break out of the deal?

There is no term length, you can fire me at any time and I can quit at any time, not that I would but unless I wasn't getting paid, or if something was to become a repeated problem. In my experience, the bands like to have the freedom of not having contracts that actually lock them into anything. So the contract basically states my pay, what you give me permission to access ( passwords for example myspace), some details as to how you guys prefer to be booked and a mile radius of how far away you want me to book you. You basically give me the ingredients for a contract and we collectively decide on those and make the contract. I try to keep things really simple.

How do you select venues in any city?

I select them based on the band. I have a database of contacts. in that
database, I list the previous bands that have played there, and if I
think a band is fitting for that venue I will book them. But it really
depends on how you want booked also. Some bands dont mind where they go or how much they get paid they just want gigs, these are details that would be in the contract between you and PE Booking.

How many venues do you typically contact per date?

I don't have a set number that really depends on the response I get in
regards to booking that gig, I would say for example, if you wanted me
to book you in Green Bay, I would mail 4 of 5 venues at first (the top
choice venues) , but in Chicago maybe 15 venues.. Because so many more are available to be booked, also a bigger number of bands chomping at the bit.

Would we be able to simply give you our available dates and cities/areas we'd like to hit, and have you fill it all in?

Yes that is how I book groups who are not my full time bands. They will send me dates with cities and I will fill them for the band. When I book full time, I make up the routes and the bands just go. Unless they request certain cities of course for certain dates.

Do you typically work with guarantees when you are booking your full time bands?

I do some but not all the time. I work with what the venues have to
offer. I do get guarantees for bands, but it all depends on the band
and if the venue thinks you are worth the guarantee. But I will push a
guarantee on every gig, Most of the gigs booked by me are not
guarantees. I would say about 25-40% are guarantees. Others are splits
and some really great venues with huge crowds don't pay anything  but
gas and tips. So really the guarantee angle is something you have to
think about. Do you want paid or do you want exposure so you can get
paid next month at the next place. If that makes sense.

I have a different take on guarantees. I feel like guarantees limit
the band unless they are reasonable amounts to be paid. I mean if I get you a guarantee at a place that doesn't normally offer them. Say that guarantee is $100 for example. But they charge a cover, the chances are the door is making more than you and in that case the guarantee is useless.

How do we pay you when there's no guarantee?

That is tricky, I will call the venue and ask them how much they paid you. if it was $300 then I keep a log of it and that's it. But some places
don't remember that type of thing, so I rely heavily on the band to be
truthful, and realize that if I don't get my money, that is reason for
me to quit and cancel your gigs, and one reason I don't lock into contracts for length of services. I allow bands 14 days to pay me after the day of the gig. Unless otherwise arranged.

Do the venues pay you and then you comp us, or will we pay you after the show?

Most bands I book need their money from gig to gig so for that exact reason. So after a gig is completed I have the bands write me and say:

What you thought of the venue.

How much you got paid.

What bands have you played with that you liked.

Estimated attendance of show

I expect pay from you, I do not touch your money........unless I went on
the road with you to help manage things, like a tour would be useful
for that. You would always pay me after the shows and I will check with venues to make sure I am being paid appropriately.

Where do you have contacts?

I have contacts from WI to FL and east . I will be branching out to the
west in the next 6 months. I do have contacts on that side of the country that are very useful. Most of the bands I represent are from the eastern half of the US, so this is just how it has worked out so far.

Will you be able to work with festival booking, colleges?

Yes I have a huge database, of Venues, Festivals, Events, Colleges, and
Press. The contacts have info like the addresses, emails, phone no.,
name of the contact, how to book with them and so on.. This is
something else you would want to include in the contract between us. A
rough percentage of  how much of this do you want to do in comparison to booking venues, day appearances, and such.

What is included in your promo plan?

This is a long talk.. I have done promotions for a few years now, and each place or band has their own Ideas on what they want. Tell me what you want to do in particular. It depends on what you are willing to do also that I wont have to. Promo is 5% of your take of the gig if I
promote it. I would promote by way of:

Print- I will send posters to all your gigs as soon as they are confirmed or when suitable. You have to supply the funds for the postage, envelopes, and print.
Online- I will post you on my myspace, Facebook, Jambase, Pollster, Zip Scene, Indie on the Move, and a few others.

Press- this is a little different for a tour. But for just a gig I would notify the weekly mags in the city and get the gig listed in the paper. I will also send press releases for performances. You have to provide me with the press release.
Street teaming- the band can start a online group and if you can provide the print, it can be mailed to people to pass out handbills in gig cities, I will manage the group for you but not provide the print. Street teaming is at the bottom of my list. Unless it is local In Cincinnati, I will street team it with my people if you so choose!

If you have more questions please send me an email on myspace or at sbryantbooking@yahoo.com for the quickest reply.
