great performances and events continue to happen in the world of the Self Sound Orchestra!
we just played Radio K's "Now Like Photographs". the host Chris and engineer, Joe, did an amazing job and we couldn't feel more welcome and honored to be a part of the show. you can hear our two pieces on the episode we played, Episode CCXIV - 2009.01.28 on their archives here. the tracks are "Variations on Experiments in Love" and "Music for Beatrice". you can download them here. Danny, Jaime and Terry were in the band. enjoy!
also, the split 7" is almost ready and we are excited to be paired up with Insert Name Here out of New Zealand. Self Sound Orchestra will be represented with the song "Before I Go Under" and cover art by Danny. there is a new video for the song as well featuring a live version of the tune recorded this past summer at the Cedar Cultural Center. check it out:

more shows coming up in and around the Twin Cities and other big news that we can't wait to share! thanks for checking us out!

figured it'd be good to jot some things down since it has been a minute..
the main things are that the Self Sound Orchestra has managed to expand and contract in many different myriad forms as of late. often to satisfying results. i would like to thank all the kind folks who have watched, listened and been a part of each exhibition of our music this past year.
there has been much material recorded and there are some outlets of choice for future performance and recordings. we look forward to the impending future of the band in whatever form or medium it will be presented. lots to look forward to!
firstly, we are excited about some feature length presentations of "Self Sound Orchestra" a film by our friend Paul Bernhardt that will soon be shown on MTN here in Minneapolis. we still have copies of the fantastic DVD available as well for those not able to watch it here in the Twin Cities.
thank you so much to MTN for showing this great piece of work!
in the days and months to come expect the band to make it's vinyl record debut as part of the Mpls. Ltd 7" series.. sometime in the Winter or early Spring.

we hope to whole up in Studio 406 quite a bit this Winter as well, reflecting on this past years recordings to assemble a grand collection of fully realised sounds and compositions. we also hope to find a home for "Experiments in Love" in as a full vinyl LP release as well sooner or later..
we will also continue to work with and be a part of the newly founded Minneapolis Free Music Society which hopes to encompass, focus and showcase the exorbant wealth of great talent and performers up here in the frozen city.
you can watch some of the visual realizations of the Self Sound Orchestra on youtube here. the latest piece is called "How Do You See Mpls?"

thanks for paying attention.. there will be more to come, stay tuned!

will be updating you soon. here's a new video for "Waltz Metallic". hope you enjoy it!
Saturday, September 13, 2008

there is finally a track up with Terry playing some wonderful little guitars, "Before I Go Under". i can't get enough of his solos. Jaime played the bass, Danny played the trap set whilst Brian hit the gong and sleigh bells.

i also just posted a glimpse into some of the new stuff Brian and Danny have been working on. the working title, "Robot Dispute", is a short sketch of a soon to be much larger work. we are excited about the current state and results. hope you enjoy it.

in the meantime, here is a visually realised version of  "Experiments in Love" for youtube. you can purchase the cassette version of the full piece with a DVD "Self Sound Orchestra" that documents the "331 Club" stage of the band for $10. please message us if you are interested.

it has been a busy summer for the Self Sound Orchestra.

the heat can keep you moving, thinking and building upon your visions. subsequently there has been much art and music coming from the studio and lab.

with the amazing and talented, Brian Susko, we have been building and recording lots of new sounds.

there are long ways to go in finding the best arrangements and composition for the new works. Jaime and Terry have found themselves in the middle of the chaos to add and collaborate. it is exciting to have so much to work with. ultimately i hope for there to be some sort of new collection of works by wintertime, when the sounds of summer inspire warmth for the heart.

in the meantime i have posted a few short sketches Jaime, Brian and myself have recently constructed.

they include:

"Of Whales and Gongs"
"Student Council"
"Potential Power Trio"

also, i am very excited to have the final cut of a film my good friend Paul Bernhardt recently made. there is a longer version that i am releasing on a DVD with this cut. it will soon be shown on MTN as well..

the debut of the new band went very well. we hope to record more and have some more performances in the near future. hope you enjoy the rest of your summer!
