Brought to you by Arctic Circle Radio, the Circle is a new weekly podcast that takes you on a one-hour journey based on the most simple and significant of shapes. Every Circle is unique; formed from a guest curator’s musical landscape and they all share the same revolutionary quality: each one ends at the point where it began.
Edition 15 – Mix by Long  Division With Remainders
This mix brings together tracks from our project 14 Versions of the Same EP. It represents perhaps the more ’subtle’ sounds from a project bringing together experimental artists from the UK, US and Australia. Each artist has taken 4 core audio parts, and done whatever they like them to create 4 new tracks. They are then released as an EP ‘Version’, and will be brought together for a box set in 2010. The next EP (our 14th, but not our last) will be out very soon. Thanks  – Helen & Justin (LDWR).

BLK w/ BEAR have completed a new round of recordings. Seven new tracks and mixes were created this week at Pink Noise Studios, Takoma Park, Maryland under the able tutorage and talents of Rich Morel, recording engineer.

'valve_languere' was previously highlighted during the BLK w/ BEAR performance at the DC Sonic Circuits festival via a YouTube video and featured on our myspace front page. The track 'brokerage' is destined for Ultra-red's "What is the sound of the war on the poor?' project and finds its spiritual roots in the RIO works of Henry Cow, particularly 'living in the heart of the beast' ... given the project's one-minute time restriction on contributions, the compact 'Miniatures' tracks of The Work and Metabolist were conceptual godfathers as well … BLK w/ BEAR with drums! Other tracks will find their way to a Trace Recordings label compilation due in early 2009 ... and *fingers crossed* future BLK w/ BEAR product. Three of the new tracks have been uploaded to the myspace player.

Also during Pete's time in the District, Todd Franson (who shot the MetroWeekly feature on Queering Sound) proffered some mega-bytes on band photos. A couple of results are in the photos files.

Many thanks for the inspiration and continued support of family and friends.

>> ABOUT THE PERFORMERS ....

PINKO COMMUNOIDS is an improvisational trio based in Charlottesville, Virginia. The trio consists of Carey Sargent, Kevin Parks and Wendy Hsu, who create both free and structured improvisations using conventional instruments including guitars, accordions and percussion, found objects, circuits, microphones and other electronics. Recent explorations have led the trio to investigate aspects of tuning and timbre and the relationship between the two. INFO: www.pinkos.info ....

TL0741 is the solo exploration of Pat Gillis, Northern Machine. A dynamic alchemical universe of electronic anti-music is conjured using tape manipulation, digital sampling, analogue synthesizers and audio processing. INFO: www.myspace.com/tl0741 ....

VIOLET ( J. Surak ) is a veteran experimenter from Washington DC. Since the early 1980s, he has explored the netherworld between improvisation and composition to create something between the two auditory realms of experimental music. Found objects, microcassettes, damaged compact discs, prepared acoustic instruments and old record players outfitted with foil are his tools of choice. INFO: www.zeromoon.com/violet ....

BLK w/ BEAR now encompasses the talents of founding member J.S. Adams ( loops / prepared vinyl ), cellist Doug Poplin and multi-instrumentalist P.D. Sexton. The trio creates laptop and real-time textures that incorporate 'dead media' sources such as Wilcox-Gay Recordio and Mutoscope Voice-o-Graph discs. BLK w/ BEAR champions broken language, audio bleed, broadcast interference, delay and decay, field recordings and the inherent surface noise of vinyl recordings. The VLT_BLK turntable collaboration will only feature Adams. INFO: www.myspace.com/blkwbear ....

>> ABOUT THE SONIC CIRCUITS FESTIVAL ....

The Sonic Circuits Festival of Experimental Music was initiated by the American Composers Forum (ACF) to provide Washington DC's music and art communities with the opportunity to sample experimental and avant-garde electronic music, with an emphasis on improvisation and artistic use of new technologies. Now heading into its eighth year, the Washington DC chapter of the ACF has expanded the scope of the festival to include electro-acoustic compositions, experimental jazz, noise rock, electronic drone and experimental folk, as well as live video and film programs. Sonic Circuits seeks to foster the spirit of collaboration through the diversity of participating artists, and its varied programming appeals to arts enthusiasts of all types. ....

The 2008 Sonic Circuits Festival is scheduled for September 28 through October 5 at the Velvet Lounge, National Museum of Women in the Arts and George Washington University in Washington DC, and at Pyramid Atlantic in Silver Spring MD. ....
