Hello!
I don't blog very often, but I just had to share what I did last night.
Yesterday afternoon, I got a last minute call to play at a very unusual and special event. It was basically one stop in a sort of travelling dinner party that was recently written about on the New York Times website. Below is a link to that article:
http://themoment.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/06/23/pop-up-gourmet-buenos-aires-comes-to-you/
It all happened because my friend Nicole was having lunch with a guy who was desperately looking for a musician to play a few songs at a private party. I got the call, and I quickly changed my plans of making it a "Blockbuster night", and headed into Beverly Hills, 90210. I was fortunate enough to enjoy a very fancy dinner at a beautiful house in the hills. We ate delicious Argentinian food prepared on the spot by chef Diego Felix and drank amazing wine. After dessert was served, I got out my guitar and stood and sang in between two long, candle-lit tables. Seated, were about 25 people.
I performed three songs, and the crowd seemed to enjoy it.
Needless to say, it was a very fun night. Only in Hollywood!
Love, Charlie

I went to the beach with Emily Wilder and her friend Whitney and made a music video for "Someone to Kiss". We had a lot of fun hanging out with seagulls and strangers metal-detecting in the sand. If you aren't able to go to the beach any time soon, you should crack a beer, kick off your shoes and watch my video.
Best Wishes, Charlie

Free Up Your Schedule Charlie Wadhams takes on Tangier
By Rebecca Schoenkopf
Charlie Wadhams is maybe eight feet tall and 15 years old, and he makes beautiful music to sway to. It's sort of lo-fi and low-lighted lounge, a mix perhaps of Jonathan Richman and Tommy Larkins troubadouring through There's Something About Mary with the Circle Jerks's atonal scat-singing stint in Repo Man.
When I saw him a year or so back opening for Inara George's the Bird and the Bee in a Costa Mesa strip mall, the audience would stand rapt for part of a song and then l ose the thread, turning to chat loudly amongst themselves. Rooted to the ground and accompanied only by a laconic guy beating slowly on a snare drum (I think?), Charlie Wadhams wasn't putting on a high-energy kind of gig.
But the music itself was a celebration of love songs – pragmatic love songs without even the littlest bit of maudlin to them, but rather fun adventures with a best friend and forgetting about failures (that time in your life is now over).
Wadhams's latest, In a Goldmine, is a slight departure from his first (which played endlessly in my car, soothing aloe on the sunburn of a nasty commute); it's maybe got a bit more fuzz to it, and the song structures feel more classic '30s (including croony boy backup singers) with a dash of rockabilly (Wadhams wrote Walk Hard's "Guilty as Charged") than Seals & Crofts '70s. Oh, did we not mention the Seals & Crofts? Well, we didn't want to intimidate you with the awesomeness. We leave that for the show. And then maybe, post-intimidation, you'll turn and talk amongst yourselves.
Charlie Wadhams and special guests play this Sunday and next, 8 p.m., at Tangier, 2138 Hillhurst Ave., Los Feliz, (323) 660-1033. Through Nov. 23.

Hi everyone! I have a couple of songs in the new movie Walk Hard, the Dewey Cox Story. John C. Reilly is actually singing them in the movie! One is called "Let's Duet", which I co-wrote with Benji Hughes and the other is called "Guilty As Charged", which I co-wrote with Gus Seyffert. The movie comes out Dec 21st. Go see it, it's hilarious!

Well, I just finished some out of town shows with THE BIRD AND THE BEE. They were such a great band to open for and travel around with. I LOVE them!
Besides freezing my ass off and nearly barfing on the plane, it was a lot of fun! I want to thank everyone in Portland, Seattle, D.C., Philly and NY who came out to the shows. It was very hard to get onstage and play without my band behind me, but you all made me feel at home. I hope to see you again soon.
Charlie

Last night a lucky star fell down and landed right on my head. I opened up for legendary Daniel Johnston at the Henry Fonda theater. He put on a great show and the night was a blast. At one point he came into our dressing room back stage and bummed two cigarettes off my guitar player, Pat. We wished eachother good luck and then he left. Long live Daniel Johnston.
