Montega - The Underboss
Sunday - September 10, 2006 | Post Comments (1)
Montega Rappers come a dime a dozen. They all have the same story: Born to a single mother, raised by the streets, influenced by money, drugs, and a life of crime. But only a few possess the gift to paint pictures full of self struggle vivid enough to influence his listeners.

Montega, aka Human Heroin, born and raised in The Bronx, New York (currently residing in Virginia) started his life as another ghetto statistic. Father-less childhood in a drug infested neighborhood growing up as a minority in his own country. Already known for his lyrics, Montega has developed a strong street fan base primarily on the Eastcoast due to a number of flawless feature appearances. Featured on countless mixtapes, underground hip hop internet sites, and Rap DVD Magazines, Montega is destined for greatness in the rap game. Montega had major features in the past for example with Freeway from Roc-A-Fella. His label mate Geolani put him on many tracks and a lot of mixtapes. Check out what Montega is all about...

DJ 4 Sho
Title: Afficial Bizness 5
Rating

Review by: Big Chew

Geolani stays on his game people, don't front. He's one of few artist/managers/business owners that actually walks the walks when he talks the talk. Plus he understands that actions speak louder than words, must be a disciple of the 48 Laws of Power. Hmmm. DJ 4 Sho is outta Va and he probably got part 6 done as I'm typing this.

"Big Spender" is a crazy ass beat; Cas, Dino West and Geolani make a good team. One of the most slept on MCs out right now is Dramills. "Ground Wit U Ni99as" is that pile of rocks in ya pocket theme music. Big Cas said "eclectic boogaloo" on "Diddy Bop". I was rolling and that hook is catchy too. Best track on the CD to me is "Trouble". Rain and Montega is cool colabo, the beat is tight and the hook is smooth like country crock. Good to see Brick Savvy on "Hang On", dope track. Dan Deuce harmonizing a little bit with "On This Track", surprised me a little but he still verbally beat the track in the head. Easily the hardest track of the CD is "Smoke It". This is what you call catching a "3 to 9" on a track.

I enjoyed this CD man but I've heard better verses/tracks from every MC featured on here. 4 Sho needs to level some of the tracks out. For example the Trilogy and Laz joint "Don't Play" was something I really wanted to peep but the lows was maxed and didn't do the track justice. Maybe the track came that way, in that case it falls on the artist but if it doesnt sound proper quality wise I wouldn't play it. I did learn something new with this CD though; Capp N Kidd Wonder got some dope beats. I'll catch ya'll on part six, most likely coming very soon. (7/19/06)

AW: What it Do Fam?

AW: Aiight, give us a lil' background on "DJ Wits"?
I've been doing my thing for a few years in the music game... mixtapes and radio, clubs and music choice.  Just trying to do my thing and provide the hip hop and music world with something unique and fresh.

AW: What would you say separates you from the next DJ?
Besides the obvious in my disability I would say it's my hard work, dedication, motivation, creativity, and the strong push to meet my goals.

AW: What are your thoughts on the current state of mixtapes?
I like where it's at now in the sense that they're more widespread.  The bad thing about how popular they've become especially the past few years is that everyone and their mother is droppinn' now days but everyone and especially their mother ain't hot or original.  I like it now because I can see where what I'm about to do will be in the scheme of things and how it should shake things up...

AW: Who would you say is really killing the mixtape game right now artist wise?

I like Jae Millz a lot.  Papoose does his thing and I like D-Block, but I really like Millz.  I like what I've heard from Jokaman thus far, but keep in mind mixtapes are often regional and I'm in NY, so I'm used to hearing NY artists... ..>..>

AW: What do you look for in an artist when it comes to getting an artist on your mixtape?
First and formost I look for sound quality.  Of course me personally your lines have gotta be tight, and your delivery's gotta be on point, but even if you have that for real you can't have something you recorded on a kareokee machine and expect me to blaze it.  If the sound quality ain't tight don't even send it to me.  I like lyrasists too, don't send me anything with nursery school rhymes either.

AW: How did you come up with your latest mixtape?
My last mixtape was back to basics vol. 1.  I came up with that because I've always kept it true to the heart of mixtapes, blending, cutting, mixing records in etc.  Not knocking those who don't due that pursay, but that's what back to basics is about... putting the mix back in mixtapes.

AW: Do you do other ish outside of the mixtapes and if so which do you enjoy the most?
Yeah I do clubs and parties as well as 2 radio stations and a weekly mixshow on music choice.  It's difficult to say which I love the most because I think I really enjoy everything for different reasons, and enjoy having different outlets to play different types of music...

AW: Where do you see the mixtape game in 5 years?
It's hard to say.  I could see it on one hand widening even more to become even more commercialized, but on the other hand the more widespread they get the more they are attacked by the RIAA.  Kinda a toss up...

AW: Awready! So what's next for you?
In short a lot of grinding.  Working on trying to get a show on either other commercial radio stations, or a show on a satalite network like xm or serious.  Long days and nights expanding myself as a DJ into new markets, a lot of networking and establishing connections, and a lot of office type work like upgrading my web site and marketing/promotions etc. Next up immediately though is DJ Wits and Montega present Human Heroin vol 1.  A lot of different types of mixtapes and a Fall - Spring nationwide promotional tour coming to a city near you. ..>..>

Team Afficial/DJ Lust
Title: Afficial Bizness Vol 4
Rating

Review by: Big Chew

Team Afficial and DJ Lust is an ill collaboration. I'm all about handling BI and so is Team Afficial. If you don't know DJ Lust he's a true mixape personality. He keeps it short and sweet on the drops and the CD moves lovely. If you're looking for some cutting and mixing you'll need to go elsewhere. Only straight tracks dropped on this full of hot lava and other in cindering things. lol Enough yappin', lets see what's really good.

"Reppin' Time" is Jimmy Jones at this best. He may be an exec but he always keeps it on that gangsta shit. "Hands Up" got me thinking Banks is coming weak; "Put em up, Put em up, Put em up". What the fuck is that? Ahhh, always good to hear some Stack Bundles. He's a true mixtape juggernaut, plus he'll eat you other MCs up like "Food". Who is J Hood? I remember this MC from back in the late 90's with the same name but he never DROPPED and album. Hmmmmmm, (scratches chin). For some reason I had "Wat Set U Wit" on repeat like it was cooked food. Def one of my favorite JR Writer tracks, that hook is a semi-anthem. Best track of the CD gotta be "We So Afficial", and it's not because Montega name dropped me in the rhyme; "you heard Chew on the review ni99a/ tuck ya chain." Ransom Rellic caught an ill flow on this track too and well Montega is just hungry on some grizzly bear type shit. Think I'm lying? Peep him on "U Must Be Strong". That vocal sample is crazy like cat shit. Speaking of ill vocal samples, Snyp got some shit on "One Heart". Yea if you know Journey's music at all you know what the sample is. Rain and Vice Raw did they freestyle thing with some ill ass word play. Big Cas laying down some lovely shit for the cave bitches on The Perfect Match", shit for all bitches I guess. I don't front though, I'll eat some pussy, fuck that, and bitches don't call me Chew for nothing. lol Im buggin.

It's that Team Afficial music people get used to it. Couple of exclusives from the masses but truth be told its the Team Afficial/New Industry tracks that shine the brightest. The sleeper track of the CD is Bossman flowing over "Quiet Storm". Just peep the track list and see what it's about, nothing but good music. If you check the Rapmullet Message Board the shit is up there for free download, don't get any better than that. (6/27/06)

DJ Fade
Title: Come Correct
Rating

Review by: Big Chew

Fade is back...no not the down south Fade, the BX Fade with the skills for days people. I swear he drops every week like clock work so you know he on that crooked teeth grind. Fade got best of's, instrumentals, exclusives with some blends mixed in, it don't stop man. He came with a tight scratch intro too so stop sleeping on the man already...damn!

The Lady Luck freestyle was dope but the joint that was true mixtape shit gotta be when Fade cuts up "Get It" by T.I. Listen for yourself if you don't believe me. The beat for "Clipse of Doom" is like smoking good haze man, you can def zone out on it. The Lady Luck and JR Writer freestyle will have you open if you on your NY shit. Fuck it just to heard JR Writer spit on T.O.N.Y is worth the listen. Ahh Geolani and Montega make an appearance, that's a good look. These two MCs making more than noise. By far the best blend to me got to be "What You Know About That" b/w "On The Real". T.I never sounded so good. Lady Luck is still on her game lyrically and she got some nice features with Slim Thug and Smitty. Keep your ear out for home girl.

Fade got an ill formula on this project. He's letting the skills breathe more which is always a good thing and he got some jewels on here too. Not really diggin' the Mobb joints and some of the "round the way" cats need work; Mike Nitty and K. Sparks specifically. The hooks were bland and although they were lyrically proficient their tracks didn't stand out compared to the rest of the CD; came off more as filler than anything else. Still I give props for taking the chance on these cats were most DJs would be talking $$ or nothing. (6/5/06)
