Thanks to my friend pat I have liberated from layaway my new BOSS 20xl loop station. I have already written some new stuff with it, and I've only been playing for an hour. But this brings more excitement than just new songs, it also means I can take this thing live now. So if you wanna see SI up in person, invite me to play at a show. Please!!! nd

So hip hop artist Alalu (I.) is is going to remix a song by me. You should keep up to date with both to find out details. Also I'm make a bit of a creative change. I have since beginning SI gained an appreciation for the bass guitar. So I'm planning on focusing more of my work with SI oriented toward the Bass guitar. Its still gonna be noisey, and will probably be more noisey. but may involve a little more structure and a little bit of jazz. I hope you all enjoy nd

So I bought my first hip-hop/Rap album. I was once a fan of this genre, but after I delved into rock, metal, punk, hardcore, and avant garde electronics, rap didn't hold any interest for me. Until I browsed on over to the Ipecac Records website, and it was streaming Dalek's new album Gutter Tactics. Instantly it brought to mind Eno/Byrnes pioneer hip-hop-esque master piece My Life in the Bush of the Ghost. This album features droney guitar and fiery political/social critic lyrics. So naturally I got inspired. My newest song "Current Affairs" illustrates this notion. I will be working this concept out, using mostly the built in instruments of Garage Band, but I will also add some noise via dictaphone. It should be fun. Though this is no way should be taken as a rap album. I appreciate what people like dalek can do percussively with their voice, but I have no desire to acquire those skills this late in my life. Instead I will overlay several of the tracks with spoken word. I'm still working out a concept and the current track I have posted may resurface with words added. I hope you enjoy keep it subversive

I was interested in sound at a very young age. I always loved music, but sound of the world in general intrigued me. I was that kid in school that dragged his fingernails down the chalk board. I thought it was funny that it made people cringe, and interested that it didn't make me do the same. I kind of liked that sound. Sound really stood out for me in film. I can remember this film I saw as a kid about a tap dancer, I'm pretty sure it was the movie Tap. In one scene the protagonist is in prison and starts dancing to the rhythm of the sounds around him: water dripping from a pipe etc. This scene stood out to me a facinating. It made me realize there was music ever where. I had a love for horror films as an adolescent, partially because of the gore, but also because of the sound tracks typical use of dissonance, and eerie ambience. But a film that really began to make me consider noise as a musical outlet, was a documentary on ancient greek ampitheatres. There was a lot of really vacant, ambient sounds. Its added mystery to the film and authenticity to its ancient references. This made me want to explore sound manipulation. Now I have a chance to inspire others through film. The film maker Marco Sanchez has taken some of my music to adapt to his film, and I am very excited. I hope you all get a chance to see it. More info will evolve as it comes in the mean time check out his myspace page or his page at Film Makers Worldwide

So I have been at work on tracks for a new album, based on a track I am contributing to the Necktar compilation but not much is going to happen with this very soon, for the submission deadline is December.
Most recently, though, I have been asked to contribute to the Dictaphonia project. The idea behind this is a music made and distributed exclusively on mini-cassettes, which is exciting for me because my first couple of albums were in debt to the mini recorder my I inherited from my mothers days in college.
Stay tuned for updates, I intend on getting the dictaphonia track completed soon, for the space for volume one is filling up

So I got home late last night, made some dinner, and find a moment to check my messages around midnight. I found a message from Zradio saying they downloaded the tracks they were going to use and played them (or one of them) that night, between 9 and 11. I missed it be a few hours, but I am still excited to say that I am now officially being played on the radio, be sure to show your support for me, and subversive radio, by tuning in next time, or going over to Zradio and hearing their archives.

This is what a friend said to me, the same friend who first introduced me to noise. It was Brighter Death Now, sleep deprivation, and some euphoric substances, and for what ever reason from that moment I was hooked. It wasn't the first time I heard music of this caliber, but it was the first time I was receptive to it, and since then I have looked at all music in a different way. I have been playing music with this friend of mine for years and we have always been experimenters, but now he's going in a different direction musically. His latest project was dance/pop punk band. Its not something I enjoy to see happen to a friend, but all though I don't like I don't criticize because but I of all people know what its like to have unconstructive criticism thrown their way. So Its comments like "noise is bullshit" "its easy anyone could do it" that get under my skin. The truth is, noise is pretty easy. It can be as simple as a few key strokes and audacity. Yet there are few musicians that couldn't easily come up with some catchy pop hook, and there are certainly too many that do, and at the end of the day, now of them make me the slightest bit interested. Its because ultimately I'm not attempting to come up with something that radio listeners can sing along to, or club goers can shake there but to. Its all about and auditory experience, that may mean a painful one, but on some level its a meaningful one if you sit and listen. I'm sick of this reaccuring conversation about how much my music sucks, and how no one would listen to shit like this. I admit that I occassionally get a chuckle when a coworker comes down stairs to the kitchen I work in and hears Volcano the Bear playing and looks frightened, but one of them stops to "enlighten" me by informing me that my music isn't worth the plastic it was distributed on, I'm no longer so giggly. The point here is, why can't people mind there own fucking business and keep their annoying little comments to themselves.

So the cold is receding, warmth is on its way. Its a time of renewal, things are growing, inspiration is all around, and I have a drone/doom album stirring in my head. I have begun work on drone metal album. The idea is loud slow and nois-e. I have a couple of bass parts written, which--distorted--will be the major vehicle of sound. I'm thinking more organic field recording type noise and percussive instrument. this is the perfect opportunity to put that merimba I got for valentines day to use.
And if anyone really is reading this let me know by heading over to http://www.last.fm/music/Subversive+Intentions/1.20.09 to check out the most recent SI album. Its short but still good and thus far there has been no activity.

I have completed four tracks for the album 1.20.09 to celebrate George W Bush's eviction from the White House. Thanks and Congrats to all of you who didn't vote for the Republican this time around. I'm sure now things won't be as bad. As the title suggest the album won't be fully released until that date, when pres-elect Obama becomes just plain pres. I have uploaded one of the tracks for your listening pleasure, and the other three are available for preview only on my last.fm page. Be sure to visit on 1.20.09 to grab the grab the whole album, which, like always, will be free to download.
Oh my ongoing concept album CAPTCHA This had a new addition to it as well, so check that one out while your at the last.fm page.
thanks
