GLORYTELLERS DEBUT ALBUM RELEASE!

The creative force behind Glorytellers is guitarist/singer/songwriter Geoff Farina, who spent the better part of 14 years fronting Boston's genre-bending Karate, and as one-half of the formative lo-fi duo Secret Stars. Farina's latest effort reveals a set of delicate ballads that draw from the quirky psych of the Raincoats and Spacemen 3, the rustic narratives of The Band and Mose Allison, and even the dense harmonies of pianists like Jelly Roll Morton, Herbie Nichols and Andrew Hill.

The album is released in Europe late January 2008 and will be available in the USA early February 2008.

from southern.com:

On May 5th 2003 Geoff Farina, Jeff Goddard and Gavin McCarthy found themselves in Leuven, Belgium, sweating out what felt like just another tight set at the end of a long tour. A recording of this show eventually found its way back to the band, who were surprised to hear the clarity and balance that they strive for in the studio. It became the band's favorite live document, and they considered these performances on par with their best studio records. Here is a snapshot of a great band at their peak - not just "great" in measure of appeal and taste, but as players and performers.

Though Karate sadly ended their 12-year run in the summer of 2005, this brief set-list takes the band's strongest material into new realms, and is evidence of what they sounded like at their best, with their tour legs on.

From www.geofffarina.com....

Karate has disbanded after 12 wonderful years of making music together. We played our last show in Rome on July 10th, 2005. I could no longer continue with the band for a number of personal reasons, the most important of which is that I have developed hearing problems from many years of dangerously loud stage sound. After seeing a hearing specialist and attempting to continue working with Karate, it quickly became clear that I can no longer play at the high stage volume that Karate requires. Over the next year I will continue working with my other various bands and projects, and I will also start working on a new band with a different instrumentation and stage setup that allows me to continue performing the songs that I love to write and sing. Of course Gavin and Jeff will also continue to make great music, and we hope you will all continue listening!

It would be impossible to thank everyone who has helped us since we started in 1993. First and foremost, to those of you who have bought our records and come to our shows, as Gavin and Jeff recently said, we would still be making noise in a basement in Allston if it weren't for you. You have given us more than we can ever return, and we thank you sincerely for giving us a chance to make music for you. Secondly, Shannin Cartwright, Danielle Soto, Allison Schnackenberg, Mahmood Shaikh, Massimo Pupillo, Eamonn Vitt, Greet Vyvey, Andy Hong, Bernard Van Hecke, Eliot Shepard, Jamie Fleischel, Stacie Merrill, Stuart Fletcher, Ana Valdes, Jodi Buonanno, and Caterina Mongiat, we will never be able to thank you for your personal commitment to Karate. We could not have done this without the time and effort you have devoted to the band. To everyone at Southern past and present, all our friends and families, roadies/merch vendors, promoters, booking agents, distributors, and everyone who has lent us gear, given us rides, fed and housed us over the years, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Finally, thank you Gavin and Jeff for so many years of great music! You are two of my favorite musicians and I hope we can play together again soon.
