THE OAK RIDGE BOYS + HALLMARK CHANNEL = ONE GREAT MUSIC SPECIAL

May 20, 2009

Shaquille O’Neal, Phil Vassar, and Lee Greenwood
appear as guests – with proceeds to benefit Feed The Children

The Oak Ridge Boys will once again bring their musical magic to your television via the Hallmark Channel Wednesday, May 20th at 7pm (ET).  Feed The Children’s one-hour ‘Americans Feeding Americans’ television special will feature the legendary Oaks singing “Colors”, “American Family”, “Amazing Grace”, “Write Your Name Across My Heart” and “G.I. Joe & Lillie”.

"Our association with the Oak Ridge Boys has been a blessing throughout the years", said Feed The Children President Larry Jones.  "Not only are they great entertainers, but they are great ambassadors for hungry children and families all over the world. The message that they bring in this show is one of inspiration and hope, something that America needs right now."

The one-hour television special features footage from the Wilmington, OH food drop that gave aid to hundreds of families after the DHL hub closing.  The program additionally features two song selections from Lee Greenwood, music from Phil Vassar and special appearances by Joel and Victoria Osteen and Shaquille O’Neal.

Review of Front Row Seats by Kyle Boreing

Over the last 5 years, the Oaks have been reinventing themselves, retracing their roots in gospel, showing their incredible knack for Christmas music, let the country (and the world) know where their allegiance (and hearts) lie, and broke everything down to the bare minimum. The results have been quite interesting, and have helped re-establish the Oaks as the legends they are.

However, a full, modern, ROCKING country album has been conspicuously vacant for a number of years. Their last all-country effort was "Voices" in 1999, and while that definitely had some commercial appeal, the entire project seemed nostalgic (reuniting with Ron Chancey and many of the studio musicians who played on the Oaks' hits of yesteryear). Before that project, the last country album was in 1992 with "The Long Haul" (highly underrated if you ask me). So, by my count, it's been 14 years....

Now that I've had a chance to listen to "Front Row Seats," I have realized that this project is definitely worth the wait!! The song selection is fantastic, the arrangements sound updated, fresh, and most of all, NEW, all without losing the Oaks' trademark sound. I could easily hear every one of these tracks on Clear Channel Country (as I like to call the large-market stations).

While many acts fall into a rut of trying to duplicate what they've already done, the Oaks continue to grow, even 30 years after their initial transition to country music. Just like "Y'all Come Back Saloon" proved that the Oaks were serious about being a TOP-NOTCH country act, "Front Row Seats" proves that the Oaks are still serious about it.

To give credit where credit is due, the combination of Michael Sykes and Duane Allen producing has been pure magic. Michael is a flat-out genius, and Duane's years of experience and history with the Oaks creates a mixture that no one else could duplicate. Also, being with a label that has allowed them the freedom to experiment, test the waters, and rebuild. I think that the payoff has worked both ways, too, allowing Spring Hill to grow, as well, into areas that they had never gone before (they had always been a gospel-only label).

I congratulate everyone involved in this album. I'll admit, while the last few years have been amazing, I have been waiting patiently for THE album that would prove just what the Oaks were truly capable of, especially in this day and age.

"Front Row Seats" has done it. Job well done!!
