Yes massive, been a minute since i've been put in the proper time on the blog-- been pushing forth as much pressure as possible with Sub Swara, doing a bunch of tabla and percussion performances, and even doing a good amount of teaching!!
Sub City Sessions went great on 4/24, with almost 700 of the Sub Swara massive inside, giving it up to Lazerword, Glitch Mob, Ana Sia and ourselves. Respect to all of you!
volume 2 of the Sub Swara remixes comes out TODAY! Preview and cop it over at beatport or itunes: http://...com/dd6zef .
Glitterstep came out last week, and is STILL tearing up floors whenever we run it. So glad to be a part of the Shiva Soundsystem project.
Finally, another Sub Swara remix, this time for nu-disco roughnecks The Glass, will be out on May 10th-- keep it locked for more info!
xx Dave

in other news, Dhruva and I have been working tirelessly on this massive-drums remix of State of Bengal's "Skip-ij"... we've got Sub Swara shows coming up (including the super-badboy with The Bomb Squad), I've got some great shows with the African Underground family, some D2D dates, and much more in the works!

greetings from the hyperterrainean lair, fam!
So 12/15 marks the 12" release of my tune "Break Your Heart", featuring the illustrious Maggie Horn from NYC on vocal duties. This one started making the rounds on dubplate back in May of this year; shouts to DQ, Breakage, monkeytek in Portland, and XI in Toronto-- amongst many, many others-- for the spins and shouts for it.
"break your heart" grew out of a bunch of things... a new djembe at home... a real desire to build some music at 140 bpm that wasn't sludgy or aggy and could connect to a broad swath of people on a dancefloor. Ultimately, the instrumental bits came to form as i was working on a remix of "I feel it all" by Feist with Dan and Eugene from Escort (catch the remix on itunes). We had all the stems and hearing Leslie Feist up close and sonically away from everything else was... moving, to say the least.
Knowing that the acapella was off limits, i went on a scavenger hunt for the right vocalist. Out of nowhere--and, as is always the case in NYC, everywhere, as she'd worked with a huge amount of people that I know-- Maggie Horn popped up on the radar, popped into the (painfully un-airconditioned) studio on a super-hot day, and absolutely nailed it.
Neil and Pete Forsaken (Bubonic? pete you gotta help me out on the monikers here) from Soul Motive picked up immediately. Neil had been sending me over the dubs from the label for the past year and... Jesus. Amazing bits (Joker. TRG. Pete feat. Ben Blackmore), with proper 12x12 artwork-- THIS is the way to experience music. When they inquired about the tune, i signed up immediately. When they told me it was a co-release alongside Coleco's amazing, amazing tune "Campfire Funk," it seemed like everything was falling into place-- check out their myspace to hear it!! FORWARD in every sense of the term.
Anyway, i'm really excited that this one's coming out, really glad to have worked w/ Maggie and couldn't be more pleased that it's coming out via the Soul Motive folks.
...
In Sub Swara land, we're in the final preps for our last monthly at LOVE. I got beaten in (JESUS sunder hits hard) almost exactly a year ago and it's been a blast squaring away the record, cutting dubs and slaying dancefloors, and finding Dhruva a doctor in Sweden on a saturday ;). Come out, come out, and celebrate with us as we welcome DC's groove masters fort knox 5, and celebrate the release of both the 1st round of Sub Swara remixes (KILLING. OH. MY. GOD) and Juakali's "Breakground" EP.
for the future, there's mnuch, much, much more in the works-- Dhruva and Haj are on tour on the west coast, the BBC is spinnning my D2D remix of "Get on the Bus," started a Shiva Soundsystem remix today, finished up one for the illustrious Guillermo E. Brown, in the midst of one for the Glass via Wondersound, Sha'iir and FUNC on deck, a tune for Juakali, a remix for Other Weapons, and a tabla collabo w/ Breakage... my cup is proverbially running over.
AND since i'm home for a good amount of time, i'm FINALLY getting to teach again-- let me know via PM.
love to everyone! D

yes yes yes.... sorry for keeping y'all in the dark lately, been Sub Swara-ing and recording and... well, more of those two, even. I just added my remix of Delhi 2 Dublin's tune "Get on the Bus" to my player, from their D2D:Remixed LP that's out NOW at CD baby. all the info is at delhi2dublin.com .
I had a blast working on this one; i don't often get to lace up electro-house stuff so it was a lot of fun getting all the blips/bleeps/whirrs/stabs in the right places. crank it!
In other news, LMR002 is out--grab yourself a copy while you still can! Sub Swara 033 was incredible-- check out the vid I posted of our man Shamik destroying it, doing a 'lil impromptu set after Ghislain. Sub Swara 034 is up next on 12/5, but our first batch of remixes are releasing on Beatport.com on the 2nd! 4 wicked ones, and if you've heard me play in the last 2 months, you know how insane DJ C's balkan-dubstep-nasty-vinyl take on our "Belgrade Riddim" is.
Otherwise i'm battering tunes alongside my man Secret Agent Gel next week @ Nychavok's ALTERATION bi-weekly party in Brooklyn... pass thru!

greetings from the subterranean sub swara breakbeat bunker, y'all! just dropping a quick line to let everyone know that my tune "TKM" from the Sub Swara LP "Coup d'Yah" is KEXP Seattle's song of the day this Tuesday, sept. 16th!
KEXP has been a staple of my listening life ever since my buddy Ritik introduced it to me in his pimped-out subaru back in october, 2006. I listen to the John in the Morning show at least 3 times a week--always a pleasure to tune into a station that's 100% about the music. I and the rest of the Sub Swara gang are really quite touched to be a part of it.
SS 032 is in 3 weeks-- get your tickets @ musicislove.net NOW!!!

waiting on test pressings--"Koli" has been around, cut to numerous dubplates, and "skank ethics" has been a staple of my DJ sets for the past 6 months, as well as being featured on the DubWar001 podcast as well as the first Sub Swara podcast. Just a heads up--keep an eye out!

Paul Miller, aka DJ Spooky, has included Dhruva's and my (mines? is that even a word?) track "Koli Stance"--which is also the 2nd release on Low Motion Records, as well as a featured tune on the Sub Swara LP-- on the companion CD to his new book. The book includes interviews with and articles by Steve Reich, Moby, Vijay Iyer, and a host of others-- extremely exciting musicological stuff. The CD also includes rare material from Allen Ginsberg, Iggy Pop, Jean Cocteau, James Joyce, and Gertrude Stein. Check it out!
