Hey folks. Just wanted to check in and let you know that we are almost finished with our new EP called Part of the Package. This collection of songs were written and recorded over the last year. These songs started developing shortly after the completion of "Friends & Family". The record has a different tone and fidelity than F&F. The songs are mainly about the complications of relationships and the difficulties in finding balance in life. And, of course, they focus on the importance of friendships.
We've poured a lot of time into these songs. We pushed ourselves and tried not to settle for mediocre performances. I think the extra effort shows. I hope you do too.
Anyway, we've got another couple or 3 weeks of editing and mixing. We hope to release/post on myspace around Easter, and then everything will be available to iTunes and emusic within 3-4 weeks.
See you soon!

Current mood: blissful
hey folks. we just got back from harrisonburg, va on Sunday. WE played a kick-ass venue there called Clementine Cafe. THis is a hip restaurant/lounge/music venue in the heart of Harrisonburg. The sound system was custom-built by the owners and the it is amazing.
WE played two sets of upbeat material that was about 70% vocal and 30% instrumental. We included all of our new material that we are currently recording for a new EP. We also performed a couple of new covesr: Bird Dreams of the Olympus Mons by the Pixies and The Mighty Quinn (Dylan).
This is probably our best show to date. We've been rehearsing more than we ever have as of late and it definitely paid off. We were extremely tight and if i do say so myself, we killed 90% of our material. Absolutely killed it. (this is a good thing).
If i sound excited, it's because i am. We've been really trying to focus lately and we're reaping the rewards. We got a ton of compliments and sold out of CDs.
We're stoked by such a great response and we thank Grayson Pritchard, one of my oldest and best friends, for hooking up the show.
Please check us out in the next few months. we'll be posting new music and should have a new 6-song EP avaiable for download by the Spring.
We love you all and hopefully will make you proud with our next effort. COme see us live in the next few months. I promise you won't be disappointed!
THanks,
Mitch (the HOT)

Current mood: cantankerous
judas priest it's been a while!!!
the oatmeal conspiracy has been on a sabbatical as of late. call it what you will, but we've been hiding out. we are currently writing our second album and so far, it's going well.
writing new tunes is fun, exhausting, and infuriating all at once. wanting to harness inspiration while clinging to the brief minutes of uninterrupted free time is hard on one's soul. but we are being surprisingly productive. it's amazing, actually, and i makes me so proud to be part of this group.
right now, i think the plan it to put going to put out a 5 to 8 song EP of vocal tunes. after that's over, we'll sink our fangs into another 5-8 song EP of instrumentals. This time around we're doing things much more efficiently. Mr. Johnson has taken his engineering skills to another level entirely. The process of recording, mixing, and mastering is going smoothly at this point. (don't want to jinx it)
The vocal tunes we're working on now are a little bit different than the previous album. We're taking some interesting approaches toward instrumentation and a more simplistic approach with arrangements that i think will really be tasty. as usual, my lyrics are all over the place, but hey, i never claimed to be bob dylan.
The instrumentals will be the opposite...more complex than the standard "jam" fare. i don't want to build anything up because we haven't actually developed/arranged many of the ideas, but we will be taking our time with this one. It's gonna be done right so bear with us.
anyway, just wanted to let some of you know that we're alive and there's new oatmeal on the stove, so to speak. We'll serving up a steaming portion for you in the next few months.
I'll be updating the blog more often so check back. Also, we're playing the flipside in clayton on 9.26.08. it's a great venue. Check them out on our friend list. COme to the gig to hear some of the new tunes.
Later,
mitch

Dreams can fuck you up, man...
got no sleep last night. kept waking up and falling back into a dream world that i wanted to stay in. hated getting up. hate the alarm. hate the world. just let me stay in my dreamland. that's where things fall into place (this time).
so i'm up and around. i'm pissed off at this reality. i want to go back to that other place....where i win. where i'm satisfied. where the fairy tale came true.
where the movie scenes that i want my life to be play 24/7.
that's where i am free and loved and happy.
at least for today.
dreams can fuck you up......

Hey guys and gals, Just an alert to a new song up on here now. Its not really a new song actually. We have had it up on myspace at one time or another. However, this is the new and improved version of Shinola Flats. What makes this one special is that we had some help from our good friends Andrew & Paul. We banded together and formed the Fearless 5. Andrew is on the bass and Paul on the guitar. This version came out of our session with them back in April of this year, and man did we have a good time. I had these raw files sitting on the Macbook for quite some time and I thought I would do something with them. Messing around in Logic Express got me this far. I'm still a newbie when it comes to mixing and what not, but it sure is fun. I kept the experimental desire down to a minimum and just tried to isolate as best as I could to get a good, clean sound. Anyway, enough of my rambling. I'm sure we promised all of you in our last podcast that we would post some stuff from that session. Well, here is one. There are a couple that I will post in the coming days. Stay tuned.... Here is a direct LINK download for your ipod as well Until then, Namaste!

...THIS GUY!!!!
wow. just got home from the Flaming Lips show here in Raleigh. Saw the band at the venue known as Disco Rodeo (formerly the Ritz). such a good show. smaller venue...probably holds about 800-1200 people i guess. really awesome.
the band played everything you'd want to hear....yoshimi, superman, the wand(encore), even tangerine. such a great show with tons of lights, confetti guns, and giant balloons. and they sounded great. vocals were a little low at first, but soundman made adjustments and it ended up sounding really good.
the only negative aspect was the 2 dozen young girls and a couple of guys they had recruited to dance on either side of the stage in various costumes throughout the entire show. this got to be a bit distracting and embarrassing for the girls. otherwise, everything was wonderfu.
wow. i am truly inspired. wayne coyne is a master showman and he impresssed me to no end.
i was amazed at how good all the songs sounded. a little more "organic" than the album versions, but still had the electronic flourishes we all love.
it was truly a great show and i am basking at this point. if you get the chance.....don't pass up the opportunity to experience the Flaming Lips.
pig out.

Trying something new here. Click on this link to get an enhanced AAC version of the regular MP3 version. The only difference is artwork has been added, as well as chapters and links to the songs we play. So, now you can skip all of our stupid banter and listen to the songs, or the other way around. We are posting a silly little song this week. A brief history first. Whenever we get together for rehearsal, almost everytime we get to a point where we do a silly song about Edna. Edna is a figment of the pig's imagination that has a storied history through about 7 or so ditties from our get togethers. The sillier the better. So, we thought we would jump on the bandwagon and throw together our own holiday treat for you all. Enjoy the raw nature of what is the JaPo experience.
Maybe someday we'll start the podcasts back up. We are lazy.
Oh yeah, gig this Saturday at the Flipside in Clayton. Rock on.
