June 16, 2009 - Tuesday
A couple years ago I started dating a girl from the westcoast who was adored by many but only contained by a few.  "She's got a face like a saint and a body of a sinner" was an understatement.  At the time, I lived on the eastcoast and was flying all over the country to meet up with her. We'd spend whatever time we could in between my band schedule and her club event hosting.

The club events were attached to a lot of partying which was fun and exciting in the beginning.  They lead to many unforgettable nights in some of the nicest hotel suites you could imagine and it felt like us against the world with no restrictions.  After a while, the drunken episodes started and were leading to fights and I needed to put the brakes on the situation.  My friends could now see the disfunction but I was in denial because by that time, I had fallen for the girl.

I started battling between what our chemistry was when things were good and the instability of how things were when they were bad.  The rollercoaster was getting the best of me and my body and mind were talking in two different languages.

Finally it all came to a hault.  I remember the night so vividly.  I was on the 4th floor of this rehearsal studio in East LA.  The phone rang and normally I would just let it go to voicemail until we were done jamming.  This time it kept ringing over and over so I knew something was up.  I picked up the phone, her voice was shakey so I walked out into the hall because something was obviously wrong.  She told me there was someone else and she had to let me go.  My stomach dropped through the 4 flights of stairs and I was in utter shock.

A week went by and it came out that there were 2 others besides me.  I had some of my stuff still over at her place but by this time, I wasn't interested in getting it back.  "She played me like the rest" and she said, "good luck getting your Cadillac Necklace."

I punched my ticket to ride but in the end, I'm glad it's over.

p.s. I have since gotten myself a new Cadillac ornament to replace the old one and the necklace lives on.

June 9, 2009 - Tuesday
I don't know about you but I love watching Behind the Music and hearing about where songs came from.  So I wanted to share with you the story of how DEVILS IN THE NIGHT came to be.

It was a little after 2a.m. a half year ago when I got a message from this really smokin hot girl.  She pulled the "I know you from somewhere" line on me and I went along with it because let's be serious, why not.  Next thing I know, she's asking me what I was doing and I replied nothing and she said, "well I'm drinking wine."  I asked her if she had any for me.  She said sure thing, "whats your number."  2 seconds later my phone lights up with a text from her.  Impulsively, I call her and she is so sassy and wants to know where I live.  I tell her Hollywood and she said she lives in Bel Air.  Anyone who lives in LA knows Bel Air is super rich.  At this point I'm starting to think someones fucking with me.

Anyways, she gives me her address and invites me over.  I get into my car, drive off and the whole time I'm thinking this is too good to be true.  I get about 5 minutes away and she texts me, "call me when you get here, you gotta watch out for the cameras."  By this time I'm like, Davey, what have you gotten yourself into.  But fuck it, you live once.

I arrive to the house.  It's HUGE, gated, surveliance cameras, the whole nine.  There's no way she can afford this.  I call her and this is when I'm like...okay, this is too good to be true.  She picks up the phone in her hot little voice and says, "are you here, I'll come get you, but watch out for the cameras."  I exit my car and then low and behold she's standing there...wearing a white see through little dress and a sinister grin.

I duck down into the gate and follow her into the house.  It's a typical rich person house where the rooms are huge, wooden floors and there's 1 piece of modern furniture to fill a parcel of the room.  She pops open some wine and we toast to the randomness of the situation.  At this point, I start asking a few questions but I could tell she wasn't much for dishing out answers.  She said she only had a few hours before he came home and I figured that was her way of progressing past talking.  Moments later we started making out and that led to clothes flying off and 2 rounds of wild sex as candles painted our 2 silouettes into 1.

Afterwards she started opening up more about her situation.  It became clear to me that I had to sneak out soon or I would be caught by the man who was gonna be home at any moment.  We said our goodbyes and I dipped out.  Steering clear of the cameras, I got in my car and exhaled.  Flipped a U-turn and started to drive past the house again.  Simultaneousely, the owner pulled into the driveway.  He didn't know who I was but I had an idea of who he was.  It was then that I knew I couldn't expect anything more from the night then the thrill of the rush and it's vivid memory.

Some of the best times in life are us thinking less and reacting more.

I hope this story brings new meaning to the song.

We're all DEVILS IN THE NIGHT.

March 26, 2009 - Thursday

Life never seems to be moderated.  The pedal is either slammed to the floor or you are at a stop light idoling.  That said, we just breezed through 3 weeks of tracking every single day, sometimes till 8 in the morning.   Just as we started getting used to the long days and nights, we're done.

Appleberry starts mixing on Monday!

We're in the homestretch!

March 16, 2009 - Monday

Well well well...

The guys killed the music...lead vocals are all done...

We had a couple days off from the studio as Tomas comped all the vocals and prepared them for back ups and any last minute color we might want to add before it gets mixed.

The last few days, have been nice to relax...

I've been a complete hermit through this whole process.....haven't talked on the phone much or gone out.  I think every artist just reaches a point in their life where nothing is gonna distract them and nothing else really matters except their art...at least, thats what it feels like.

Anyways, I'm glad you're following our progress and it's gonna be rad to finish this puppy up and share it with you!

peace out yo.

March 3, 2009 - Tuesday

Top of the morning to ya!

Officially, we are a week into recording and halfway through all the guitars.  Tonite we finished up at 4 a.m. which was a small victory considering McDonald's wasn't even serving breakfast yet like nights before.

Tomas' studio has a sweet pool out back with the roof of the house overhanging it.  I am determined to be the first one to launch off the roof into the pool!  I am just waiting for a bit warmer of a day.  Friends back home in Maryland were telling me they got 9 inches of snow yesterday.  Crazy!  I feel a little spoiled since I get cold in 60 degree weather nowadays.

Back to the music...Mike did a killer job on drums.  He banged out all 10 songs the first night.  They sound like a bigger deal then the Chris Brown/Rhianna saga.  The past few days, Derik and Mr. DeVine have been tracking guitars.   This album is gonna be jam packed with memorable riffs and killer solo's.  That's one void that I hear in today's music.  At this rate, we'll be done guitars and bass this week.

Lyrically, we've been taking a look at all the words to get a collective theme of all the songs.  Right now, the working title for the album is Independence Day.  I think there is something to be said about having freedom in your life.  Freedom of speech, freedom of fear, and freedom to be who you want.  Growing up, I never fit in and I used to think something was wrong with me....
Now I just realize, that just makes us special.

Till next time...There's no sleep for the weak.
