RED: Well i'm not the biggest Muse fan in the world, that title must go to my 15 year old son who came with me last night to see this tribute band. I didn't expect a big crowd but i was pleasantly surprised when we got there to see the room quite full.

I didn't really know what to expect from this band having listened to the new album i did have my doubts because covering Muse is a really tall order, however my doubts were cast aside once the band kicked off, they had a decent sound although the drums did sound a little boxy to me , the vocalist has a decent Matt Bellamey voice and handled all the high notes really well, the guitarist was also very good (could of been a little louder imo) the bass player is as solid as a rock and the young girl on keys is fantastic.

I didn't recognize many of the songs but the ones i did know were played very well , my son was very pleased with the band singing away to every song and they got the seal of approval from him, which is a good sign because Muse is all he is into at the moment. If you like your Muse you will enjoy this band, very polished and professional i was really pleased there was a good turnout for them, all in all a very good night and a great band.

ROXY: Great band Red, saw them at Trillians a few months back.

Got to agree about the girl on keyboard, she's excellent, the piano bit in Butterflies and Hurricanes got the biggest cheer of the night when i saw them

1st things 1st - I thought a few more people were coming - apart from dongle (btw he is the bass player so he had to be there ;D) I think I was the only forumite there and I gotta say you missed a treat. Reviews aren't my forte - if you want to know the techie stuff you need to check em out yourself. That I definitely recommend.

Spoke to some of the band after a very enjoyable 1st set and my 1st admission is I'd kinda expected a bunch of young'un prodigy. What I really didn't expect to find was a band of seasoned musicians all obviously having been involved in the music scene for years. The only exceptions were the guitarist who didn't look past his early 30's and the keyboard player who looked in her 20's.

The material covered pretty much all the muse era and I have to say played to a very high standard. Talking to the singer he said they had pretty much practiced for a year before they went out and gigged. Well I gotta say for their 4th or 5th gig this was impressive considering of the nature of the stuff they're playing.

Crystal clear drum sound and solid work on the bass covering those funky bass tracks. Guitarist had a lot of the sounds as well as intonation of Muse bang on. Keyboard player showed some very impressive playing on those intricate key sounds that are Muse's trade mark and I must add was definitely the prettiest member of the band ;D ( Jealous on both accounts ;) ) Keys and Guitar both stood out as very talented. Vocals were very very close to sounding like Matt Bellamy which was a very nice surprise as I didn't think many people would get close to be honest.

Sounds wise they have gone down the powered route with Rcf525's and one bass bin. I was on the other side of the room to the bass bin but on the same side as the bass player's whose sound balanced it out. Muse aren't a band which needs a huge bottom end sound and in most venues where possible I imagine the bin would have been placed in the middle. Overall a very nice clear sound.

The singer mixed the sound onstage and I gotta say it was very good for an onstage mix, though some dynamics were a little lost with not having someone to lift a solo or vox or keys where necessary. I hasten to add I don't mean this as a criticism, I certainly couldn't do any better and in time with a few more gigs under their belt and with a bigger fee commanded (And I could easily see this being the case) then a sound man would turn a good sound into a great one.

In bigger venues like the office I would imagine they would have to hire a p.a and I think this would probably do them more favors than not with an experienced sound man at the helm they could be something really special because musically I couldn't see many local bands doing any better at this stuff.

In summation then musically they were very very good. I did mention to the drummer that the only person I saw smile was the guitarist (and thats coz he caught my eye and saw my grin during new born ;D) he countered and rightly so that they're still fairly new and with a few more gigs under the belt they will probably feel a lot more comfortable and be able to relax and enjoy a bit more. They certainly seemed more happy at the end of the gig with an encore I wasn't expecting ;D But it certainly lifted the crowd and had them singing.

I would love to see this band get a few more bookings, most certainly in a bigger venue like the office where, possibly hiring one of the many talented sound men off the forum, they would be something special and certainly different, a night of Muse to be savored and enjoyed. Best of luck to them.
