Okay... some things that were in the works are not any longer; however, some things that are now in the works are even better than the older things. Word.

...we are working on a video taping of sorts for the holiday season, just have to iron out details and such. It has the potential to be a great evening of music and friends... or somewhat of a train wreck. We'll keep y'all posted! Working on a show as well, but just haven't been able to figure out a time and place as of yet. Take care!

One show and one video session on the Fall horizon. The show will be in Dallas; the video session will also be in Dallas, but is looking to be a touching, quiet emo set of our songs with incense, wine, and candles. We'll be sure y'all are on the guest list of course.

If'n you're bored at work, be sure to check out my blogging about city, community, space, and place for the "Sidebar" feature at Asthmatic Kitty.

Hope to visit soon!

Just posted some pix from our Spring Jaunt '09. Over the weekend, we finished tracking the new project. We are real excited to have Nick from Dust Congress playing banjo and singing on a song. We now move on to mixing everything. Not sure when it will all be finished, but we'll keep y'all in the loop.

A heartfelt thanks to everyone who nominated and voted for us as "Best Experimental/Avant-Garde Act" in the Dallas Observer Music Awards. We didn't expect it and are flattered and surprised to have won. More recording this weekend with Justin Lemons of Drink to Victory helming the boards of the mobile Paperstain studio unit. Looks like this project is going to be all tape — no digital. So far, so good. Y'all should check out the band Power Animal from Philadelphia. We've been listening to a CDR of them lately, and it is pretty spectacular.

We are 3/4 of the way done with our next project. Vocal harmonies, twin bass sonic destruction, a piano, an organ, songs about Colonias on the border (where 400,000 Texans live), faith, depraved people in Denton doing depraved things, and Charles Schulz's first wife... you know, the usual stuff. Looking forward to finishing it and then, um, figuring out the best way for people to hear it. Let us know what you think.

Of course, y'all can hear the songs live this Saturday at the Cavern as part of the Dallas Observer Music Awards showcase thing. We go on at 9:00 PM sharp and there are bands in four or five other venues on Lower Greenville, so buy a wristband (or hit us up for a free one) and walk around, see some bands, have some fun.

Here's the line-up:

Recording at the Echo Lab as I type. The new songs are sounding good. There is a lot more vocal work than before. Somehow, I think this album will be heavier than Holy Roller but with more hooks. Hope all is well in your part of the world. In North Texas, it's 104 degrees.

Looks like we are going to start recording our next project in July. Not sure what it will turn-out to be... collection of 7"vinyl, digital download, en Espanol cassette, but suffice to say we're excited to work on capturing the plethora of new songs we've been playing live. Lots of shows coming up this summer with peeps like Cryptacize, fishboy, Brightblack Morning Light, and a host of others. Come on out and visit with us for a spell if you can.

And, again, we're flattered to have been nominated for a Dallas Observer Music Award:

Also, our label, Sounds Are Active, just released a new album by Nels Cline and G.E. Stinson. You should definitely check it out. More info on it below. The new Castanets album on Asthmatic Kitty is badass as well. It comes out in September.

Alright, stay safe and try to keep cool!

ELEVATING DEVICE

Nels Cline + G.E. Stinson

Sound expansion + destruction + resurrection from Nels Cline (Wilco, Geraldine Fibbers) and G.E. Stinson (halfmonk, Shadowfax). Elevating Device is the first volume of extreme sonic manipulation from these two legendary guitarists. Presented as a single an expansive 44-minute track, Elevating Device is unique look into the electronic rabbit hole of avant guitar improvisation. Cline and Stinson attack, stab, sample and soothe their instruments in this one-of-a-kind recording.
