After 3 years, the old disabilities directory was getting a bit cumbersome, so I’ve replaced it with a new one. If anyone has a disability related website they want to add, you can submit it for inclusion here: http://www.apparelyzed.com/disability-directory/If you need any new categories, just PM me and I’ll add them. Regards Simon.

Click the banner above to visit The Spinal Cord Injury ForumA great kettle you don't have to lift, great for those with limited hand function. Manufacturer's Description Have you ever been gasping for a cup of tea but can't be bothered to boil up the kettle? Or wished you had a way of making a cup of coffee or a hot chocolate in one mug full? Now, thanks to a revolutionary new hot water dispenser and water filter hybrid called Quick Cup you can. Tefal Quick Cup is an extremely clever invention as it serves hot (or cool) water on demand in only 3 SECONDS and uses only a third of the energy of an ordinary kettle - so a great time, energy and money saver. Thanks to a unique "Opti-Quick" technology system (a patented innovation by Tefal) you don't need to pre-heat your water. With the push of a button, the water is sent up the heating element in a spiral movement, heating it immediately as it travels. This way, no energy is wasted on heating water you don't need, or boiling water you don't use. In fact, Quick Cup provides am energy saving of up to 65% compared to a standard kettle, helping you to save on bills too. Tefal energy experts have calculated that there could be a £31 cost-saving per year using Quick Cup compared to an ordinary kettle - so if you are thinking of replacing your kettle and want to help reduce your carbon footprint, then Quick Cup could be the best way to help put your energy-saving intentions into action. Here's the information: http://www.quickcup.co.uk/ No more kettle tippers! Simon www.apparelyzed.com

Current mood: cold
Well, summer is now gone, and the nights are drawing in, getting darker earlier.
Time to look to next summer!
Like most people with a spinal cord injury, I hate winter, the cold and damp makes my shoulders ache, increases my neurological pain, and is just plain grim!
I do like it when it snows though, waking up, opening the curtains to be blinded by a sea of white. Although for the last few years, we've hardly had any snow, must be global warming or something.
When I were a lad, I remember snow upto my waist, but we don't seem to get that anymore.
So, what's the point of this blog post?
Well, I was just wondering how everyone else feels about winter, do you like it, hate it, hibernate?
Roll on summer is all I can say!
Simon.

Hi all,
Firstly, a big apology to everyone who recieved a spam email/bulletin from my Myspace account.
It appears my account was Hacked/Phished.
I have taken the steps suggested by Myspace, so am hoping it will not happen again. Also, if you have sent me a message in the last couple of weeks, I'm afraid I didn't get it as I deleted all messages in case they contained scripts.
Thanks
Simon.

Current mood: exhausted
I finally got around to having my high speed passenger driving experience yesterday, which was given to me as a birthday present last year.
It was brilliant!
In the end, I went in the Subaru, as the transfer was easier.
I must admit, when I saw the driver, I was a little suprised, as he wasn't a day under 60! But as soon as we got going, I realised this was a bonus, as he really had the experience to push the car to it's limit.
We overtook everything, Ferraris, Lambo's, Aston's, Jag's and loads of others.
He took me around about 9 laps, by which time my arms had no strength left to keep me upright, as the G forces on cornering and braking really throw you about a bit.
I also took the skin off my left elbow and right knuckles bracing myself, but it was well worth it.
If anyone is thinking of doing this, you have to give it a go, as it's great!
Simon.

Hi all, I'm going to a conference on friday which focuses on the following topic, and I'm looking for suggestions on how to best address the issues facing people who have just been paralysed, and how to motivate them into getting some sort of quality of life back. I'm therefor looking for feedback, and if anyone has any suggestions, to post them in my forum for others to see and discuss. Fact: 30pc of spinal cord injured never come to terms with their condition – some even find it hard to leave their homes because of negative self-image. Can we allow this to continue? What separates them from the majority of people who remain unstopped in their pursuit of fulfilling lives? Please post your ideas here: : Happy to be Alive DiscussionMany thanks Simon.

Current mood: cold
Well, I wish the weather would make its mind up! I saw a Red Admiral butterfly today, it landed on my windowsill, such vibrant colours on such a cold grey january day. These butterflies shouldn't even be out untill March. What on earth has happened to the seasons? It's getting colder though, I can tell as the pain in my arms is getting worse, something many with spinal cord injuries will be aware of. I think we'll have snow by the end of the month. So, I long for warm summer days, where the sun warms my joints, it's suprising how the warmth of the sun on your face alone can make you feel better. I wonder if there will be many butterflies out this year, or have they peaked too soon? Simon.

A few people have asked "Do I know you, why do you want to be my friend?". Well, the simple answer is one of two reasons. 1. You or someone you know has been affected by a severe disability, directly or indirectly, probably causing some type of paralysis. or 2. You're a really interesting person with a great profile! (or you're a hot chick!) If you are from category 1, the reason I wanted you as my friend, is I want to let everyone affected by paralysis know that they are not alone. This includes those with a disability, their carers, spouses, girlfriends, boyfriends, friends and family members. Everyone, old injury or new injury, long term disability or otherwise, will one day have a question that nobody will be able to answer, as they may not have experienced the symptoms or conditions. The world is a very scary place when you first become injured from a spinal cord injury, or disabled after being abled boded, and once you leave hospital, alot of the questions you have go unanswered. This is where this profile and my forum come into play. Although my Forum is focused on spinal cord injuries, the experiences of the members is relavent accross a wide range of disabilities. Registration is free, and everyone in the Forum is helpfull. If you're from category 2, then I've added you for the same reason everyone else in Myspace has, to get to know you, and have a chat! So, I hope that answers a couple of questions you may have about why I chose you to be my friend. Best regards Simon :)

Current mood: busy
Man, anyone have a time machine I can borrow to pause time whilst I write to all my friends? This Myspace profile has really grown, to such an extent, that I'm having trouble keeping up with you all! What have I created? :) Anyway, please accept my apologies if I haven't replied to you yet, or if I've missed you, but I'll try to catch up. If you have any questions regarding different aspects of Spinal Cord Injuries, you can check out my website at www.apparelyzed.com or my forum at www.apparelyzed.com/forums. If I have missed you, please accept my apologies. Simon.
