Hey

As most of you know I'm a big fan of Todd Snider. I get very nervous around him. So, I gave up on meeting him, because every time I stand next to him I can't seem to speak. I have had 2 pictures taken with him, hugged him, looked right at him, but could not say all the things that I think of 2 seconds afterwards. And I mean I got some good things to say, not cheesy bullshit like "i love you todd". But, I'm a pussy. Or as Todd puts it when talks about what it would be like for him to meet Bob Dylan, "I wouldn't want to Bob Dylan, what could you say? It would be like staring at the sun".

Last night a Gruene Hall I went to see Todd Snider. Paul, Lisa and George were there saving seats for Joe and I. 2 minutes after I saw down Paul asks me "do you wan to go meet Todd?" My initial response was "No". Then, I'm like "um, what? where?" long story short, I follow Paul outside with Lisa and George to have a meet and greet with Todd. A I was standing there, I was like, wait, what am doing here, I don't want to do this". I went back to my seat and waited for the show to start.

The show was awesome. We had a blast, It was extra fun sitting next to George, it was just like old times back in NYC when we would go to shows all the time together.

After the show Joe decided that he was going to pull Todd aside to have him take a picture with me. I repeatedly say "no". Joe was determined. Todd walks by us and Joe says, "Hey Todd, take a picture with the girl, would ya". Todd replies, "Sure!".

Now, apparently the flash wasn't set to on on my camera so I can't really blame Paul for this picture. But, all in all, it's pretty much perfect and captured the moment in true honesty.

this could possibly be the best movie ever made.

Hi.

I'm here to remind you that on Saturday, December 27th I'll be performing at Tierney's Tavern in Montclair, NJ.

I am in NJ right now and am pleased with the snowy cold atmosphere. As soon as I walked into my parent's living room from the harsh winter elements it suddenly felt like Christmas. It was awesome. It's hard to tell sometimes in Texas, especially since I'm an outsider.

So, Saturday at Tierney's. I'm going to be joined by a couple friends on stage. Justin Fuchs on the bass guitar, Mandolin Pete on Mandolin, Matt Cheplic on Guitar, and there may be someone playing some drums, but I sort of forget his name. He is a friend of Pete's. I'm sure he is just as awesome as the rest of them.

The show starts @ 9:00pm and will have performances from Sean Faust, Crazy Morgan (Pete and Matt's band) and Tom Lepore.

I hope to see you there. you, you, you and yes, even you.

There are these two burger joints in Austin, Texas, Dan's and Fran's. Dan and Fran used to be married and back then, all of them were called Dan's. When they got divorced and spilt up the restaurants in the settlement, Fran kept the exact same look and feel and named all of her new joints "Fran's".

There are these two 24 hour diner-y restaurants in Austin, Texas, Magnolia Cafe and Kirby Lane. When the owner of the Magnolia cafe got divorced, his ex-wife went ahead and opened Kirby Lane. They both have a similar vibe, but are unique in their own special ways.

The Magnolia Cafe was featured on this week's episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Network. I knew this was happening because my cab driving boyfriend not only loves that show, but he also finds out everything from driving around single serving friends all day.

Now, the Magnolia Cafe is a typical diner-y menu. Breakfast anytime, burgers, sandwiches, salads, etc. But, like with any real Austin establishment, they have some choices that make it just a little bit more special than a typical diner. But, nothing like what I saw on TV. When we watched the episode they featured a blackened salmon with red peppers stuffed with Jambalaya and shrimp, a polenta with marinara and italian sausage, and of course, gingerbread pancakes with bananas in them!

Now, the pancakes, totally. But the other two dishes? What a hoax! There are no such things on that menu! I was convinced that they made up fake entrees for the show. My boyfriend, Joe, really wanted to try that jambalaya.

While working in the cab this afternoon, Joe paid Magnolia Cafe a visit. He looked up and down and all around in that menu and didn't find any mention of those two dishes. So, he asked the waitress, "i saw the show last night, those dishes aren't in here". She explains to him that they are only on the dinner menu! Well, that makes sense! For the most part we go in there for breakfast (late breakfast) or after the bars close. Of course, we never saw them!

In the meantime of all this, the owner overhears Joe and he and the general manager start up a conversation. The General Manager is from Jersey, The owner's current wife is too! Joe has a chicken salad sandwich and discusses with the owner that he would be back for dinner with me to try that jambalaya.

I meet Joe there at 7. The owner is still there and recognizes Joe, invites us to sit down at the bar with him. We get our menus and I start looking to see what healthy meal I am going to order. The owner says we HAVE to get the specials, each of us get one. The two specials are obviously the two meals that were aired on the show last night. He was pretty insistent and why argue, he probably knows what he is talking about. Joe gets the seafood one (I don't eat fish) and I get the Polenta, why not, carpe diem, right? These things don't happen everyday.

I start talking to the owner about New Jersey, he goes on and on about how much he likes it there. I explain to him that I am the minority of people from there that actual think it's pretty awesome as well. Joe, for example, doesn't care if he ever goes back. My heart still flutters a bit for the east coast.

We kept conversing about Austin and food and music and Jersey. The owner finished his meal and glass of red wine and said good night.

Joe and I went back to eating our newly famous entrees. They were delicious, we were both extremely satisfied. We went to pay the bill and found out it was already taken care of. How cool is that? What a nice man, what a nice business man, what a nice business.

Support your local Businesses, especially if they are nice and are on TV. :)
