Well it's been another great year for us. We got to play with our favourite clockwork band "The Adicts" in March, toured throughout Europe in July and August and celebrated our 10 year anniversary on Halloween in October. Now we are capping off 2008 by launching our new CD "One More Round" at the Christmas Punkfest gig on Friday 5 December at the Clarence Corner Hotel, Woolloongabba. Scratch n Sniff (Melbourne), Team Dickhead and Mislead Riot (Sydney) will also be playing and it's free entry!

The Czech Republic has the highest beer consumption per capita in the world and is renowned for it's fine brews. Not surprisingly MouthGuard make Prague the centre of operations for their European tour. Pre-tour acclimatization training begins with the 3-day Mighty Sounds festival. We organize Otto being picked up from the airport and driven by non-English speakers to a forested area outside of Tabor. He is concerned about his kidneys and is relieved to arrive at the best Ska and Punk festival in Europe. 500ml beers are only $1.80 and we are already saving money. On Tuesday we load up our Ford Transit van: Amps and Drums check, CDs and T-Shirts check, Driver and Roadie Czech, Beer Czech.
Wednesday 23 July Darmstadt, Germany Playing at the Goldene Krone we meet up with our old friends from "Puke it Out". "Better Beware" support and remind us of HC mates "Provoke". Good German beer and Mexicanas are the drinks for the evening.
Thursday 24 July Liege, Belgium Sneed of "Oi the Voice" fanzine fame is our host. He is also the one and only member of the Lüttich section of St Pauli Skinheads. He tells us Liege is also known as Toxic City due to its close proximity to Holland and thus easy access to narcotics. We play punk venue "The Factory" and Sneed's mother makes us delicious pasta for dinner. We stay in an "association" house where apparently Melbourne crust band "Piss Christ" stayed a few weeks ago - the story reeks of authenticity.
Friday 25 July Morkhoven, Belgium We stock up on fine lambic beers at ridiculously cheap prices from the supermarket. The Café Den Bolle is an old stomping ground and we play with our mates "The Jesters" and "The Unsubs". With our bar tab we reacquaint ourselves with the infamous Duvel beer.
Saturday 26 July Geel, Belgium The "Party On Festival" has two large stages for Punk and Hardcore. Our old friends "The Agitators" immediately instigate a drinking challenge. The night becomes a blur but photographic evidence indicates multi-coloured sombreros, Royal Antwerp FC Skinheads, Dutch band Funeral Dress, a trip in the Agitators bus and more Flemish Pubs.
Sunday 27 July Rotterdam, Holland We play a cool waterfront venue surprisingly called "The Waterfront". Mr Otto and the Vicar venture out for another bender with some of Rotterdam's finest Tattoo artists and football hooligans.
Tuesday 28 July Hamburg, Germany We are the guests of the St Pauli Skinheads and play their "Jolly Roger" pub. St Pauli FC is a cult football team and boasts an active anti-fascist, anti-racist supporters base. When sexist advertising was placed in their home stadium the fans demonstrated until it was removed. Not surprisingly the supporter's club has the highest number of female members in Europe. The St Pauli FC logo is the skull and crossbones making their merchandise popular with punk rock aficionados. Members of some of our favourite German bands "The Jesus Skins", "The Gumbles" and "The Ruckers" come along to the gig and for a few Astra beers. No trip to Hamburg is complete without a late night tour of the Reeperbahn..
Wednesday 29 July Berlin, Germany The Wild at Heart club in Kreuzberg is Europe's answer to New York's CBGBs. It's an awesome punk rock venue with an associated Tiki bar and shop next door. We sound check using the "Zero Boys" "Civilisation's Dying" making us instantly popular with Uli from "Church of Confidence" who runs the club and the PA. A great gig is followed by Jägermeister shots and late night Elvis Presley impersonations. The next day's cool sightseeing includes the Berlin Wall, the Brandenburg Gate, and Checkpoint Charlie.
Thursday 30 July Teplice, Czech Republic German police that stop us just before the Czech border are confused by our mix of Czech, British and Australian passports and leave us on our way. We drive through the roadside peep show spectacle known as the town of Dubi. Our show is at the Bozak Club in the basement of one of those typical Stalinist tower blocks built in the glory days of Socialism. Czech beer is ridiculously cheap and we are glad we have 4 gigs in this beer-locked country.
Friday, Saturday 1 & 2 August Prague, Czech Republic The "SubCulture" festival has an impressive line-up of bands and we get to play on the same stage as "The Misfits", "The Lurkers", "Evil Conduct", "Deadline" and "Mad Sin". Lots of ska, punk and rockabilly bands and cheap drinks make for a fun couple of days. Afterwards we end up in "Ujezd", our favourite bar in Prague. No silly lock-outs here! Question: When do you close? Answer: When you finish drinking! We leave at dawn and make our way up the hill towards Prague Castle. We are staying in the same hotel as Mad Sin and their lead singer Köfte is a frightening sight at Breakfast time!
Sunday 3 August Prague, Czech Republic We never make it to our Ostrava gig as the Vicar has injured his hand. Instead we go to the "MotorRaj" motorcycle club to see our Sydney friends "The Corps" play an awesome set. Some of us go to the Resort Club but we all meet up later at Ujezd for cognac corrected coffees and to help our favourite bartender Jolana close up at 6:30am.
Monday 4 August Prague, Czech Republic There's a last minute change of venues for our Prague show with the US band "Born to Lose". Hundreds of people still show up at the "Matrix" including all our Swedish, Czech, Swiss, Polish and Australian friends as well as a group of Russians that the Big Monkey befriended at the Resort Club. We play the best show of the tour to a very appreciative and vocal Monday night crowd then it's back to Ujezd for mojitos, flugels, pilsners and shenanigans.
Thursday to Sunday 7,8, 9 10 August Blackpool, UK The Rebellion Festival in the seaside town of Blackpool is the largest Punk festival in the world. The grand Winter Garden complex hosts the UK Ballroom Dancing finals but now tuxedos and ball gowns are replaced by Harringtons and Doc Martens. MouthGuard end up playing three times as we have become a fill in band for stage manager Peter from "Test Tube Babies" fame. On Saturday afternoon we get a prime time slot on one of the big stages. We play to a large crowd and end up selling all our T-Shirts and CDs that we have with us. We enjoying catching up with old friends the Agitators, "Renegade Burlesque" girls from London, Uli, "Clockwork Crew" from Sweden, "Drongos for Europe", Arturo from "Lurkers/999" fame, the Italian Bootboys, Doug from Melbourne's "Bulldog Spirit", Colin from Irish band "Running Riot" and Charlie and Nicky from "UK Subs". We also make lots of new great friends from around the world including Jo the lady wrestler from LA, Texas Terri Bomb and Clockwork Luke. We see great bands such as Cock Sparrer, 4 Skins, SLF, Cockney Rejects, Bad Manners, Agnostic Front, Business, Dickies, Rezillos and Argy Bargy. By the end of Day four we are all walking around like extras from a George Romero movie.
The tour ends and we all go our separate ways. Lopata goes to London to visit family and to see Agnostic Front at the Camden Underworld. Mr Otto goes to Paris and then mountain biking in Switzerland. The Big Monkey and the Vicar go back to Prague … but those are all separate stories.
