Current mood: hungry
Happy Belated Passover everyone! Sorry you hadn't heard from us in awhile. But I'm trying to get my order in for Happy Hour Sushi right now (every Thursday until 8:30 p). So I'll be quick...it'll be over just like that...you won't feel a thing.
We've had some crazy busy shows last month, Anti-Nowhere League was packed to the rafters and also the Teenaged Harletts last show ever was a blast. We also had a big music industry party for NARM that was whack. Been seeing a lot of new faces and returning ones as well, thanks for coming out!
A quick word on our Punk n Schlock Karaoke that has been buggin' this writer for the past week. First of all, it's karaoke. To make it punk rock is to do it your way - isn't that what DIY is all about. Whining and complaining that there's not enough "punk rock artists" on the list does not make you punk rock...as a matter of fact from my world, that makes you a poser if all you want to do is sing punk rock artists. I could say for a fact that the Dead Kennedys, The Clash, Billy Idol (I know, I'm pushing it) among other are on the karaoke list. It's cool that when punk acts play at the club, they would come into the back parlor between sets and not even touch their heroes...they would rather sing Billy Joel and do it their way. That's punk rock if you wanna label it.
Okay, rant off. My sushi is here. Check out our calendar and we'll see you at the corner of the bar.

There are times when you don't know how good a show might be at the old ASC, and it's usually a show where the crowd is pretty sparse. One show that comes to this writer's mind was Magic Christian when they played last Weds. (March 5th). It was some old school guys now based out SF that featured members from the Plimsouls, Flamin' Groovies and Blondie. It was funny that also on that same night, the NY Dolls played the Fillmore (at what, 40 bucks a pop), a handful of people came down after that gig (including Annie and Mia) only to be blown away by Magic Christian– I mentioned before that you never know who will be playing the bar. To find out more on them, go check out their Myspace page to see what they're all about. Oh, and also on this bill was the Hi Nobles and the Barbary Coasters. Was. I hate to say that. If only I could predict the future, but hey, not every show is everyone's cup o tea. But the ASC does try to please everyone with a rock taste.
Also speaking of "you never know who blah blah blah" – Mr. Pulp Fiction himself Quentin Tarantino was hangin' out at the bar on last Friday night (March 7th) to see Red Fang and Walken (also on the bill was Hightower and Birthday Suits). Look, I don't mean to name drop and be some gossip columnist, because I'm not. If I were, then I would mention who he was hangin' out with – but I won't, since we're friends. All I could say is that he's this writer's favorite directors and won't it be cool if in his next movie, maybe he might use Annie's Social Club for a scene. I'm just sayin'…the bar does look good when filmed properly, just check out one of Les' Bouncer News clips from a previous blog.
Well, if you read the bulletin to come here, then you know there's a FREE show on Weds. (March 12th) for our sound grrrl Meagan's birthday with the Jaded Fucks , Special Ed, Pink Elephants, and Olehole. And you should also know that SUSHI will be served every Thursday for happy hour with Tess. Sean hopes to book some DJ's soon to mix things up with your wasabi.
Check our calendar often to see what's happening. If there's a band you're curious about, I'm sure you could find them here on Myspace – hell, that's what it's for. I mean, what do you think it's used for…spying on your ex's?
See you from the corner of the bar.

Greetings from the corner of the bar. Damn, it's been a busy month at ASC. We had a slammin' Leisure night on the last weekend of January (Leisure happens at the last weekend of the month). It just so happens that during that week, we had those huge storms and people just needed to let off some steam – did they ever. It was a damn good night and the staff at ASC are stoked to have Omar and Aaron have Leisure as their monthly shin dig. Another monthly event that happens at the bar on the last Sunday of the month is Club Debauchery. A really cool Goth / Industrial night. They're starting to have bands play and this past Sunday, Mercy Mercy had the stage.
All of Death Angel was in the house to show some support for Mark Osegueda's side band All Time Highs. It also happened to be Dano Distortion's birthday as well and along with ATH, The Grannies, Flexx Bronco and The Resurrection also put on a slammin' set. It was a packed night of some slammin' rock n roll and good peeps.
I love touring bands, especially bands from other countries making their mark and exposing us to their sound. Birushanah was that band. Hailing from Osaka, Japan and putting down a sound that reminds me of pure noise and atmospheric metal (if that's even a word). Do look at our calendar, and come on down and support some of these touring acts that are not only from other countries, but also from around the US. Most of them don't really have friends out here, show let's show them some love. I love our local bands, but there are times that these touring acts blow me the fuck away!
Okay, please keep you pants on in the bar. I forgot when this happened, but there was this one show that happened in the middle of the week where the crowd may not have been as thick as a weekend gig, but they were still into the music that was happening. Now, I know it's Folsom St. – the happening spot for the "leather community" – but come on, it's not the kind of bar. There was some old man who just thought it'd be a keen idea to drop his pants and dance and "swing" along with the music. For some reason during the set, people left the main floor. No one knew what was up until some big burley Punk rock guy came up to security to voice his complaint. Anyway, he was asked to leave. Look, there's a time and a place for that, and that night wasn't the night. Kudos to the patrons for not taking matters into their own hands though. If there's any kind of issue at the bar, please let one of the staffers know and they'll take care of it.
We'll see you at the corner of the bar.

Current mood: annoyed
Someone's been passing out counterfeit 20's. We try to be cool and nice to people that support the music scene, but when people take adavantage of that, well, let's just say that it sucks. Unfortunately, it also happens to our very own patrons who unknowingly gives out change when someone asks if they could "break a 20". When that person does, they may not think twice about it...and when they pass it to the bar or at the door and that 20 is a fake - well, then it's a bummer.
Check out your cash, if it feels funny, then it's funny money. When someone asks you if you could "break a 20" and if you're not comfortable about it, just say you don't have it. Be extra leary of this especially if you had a few cocktails at the bar and your guard may be down. And this only doesn't apply at ASC.
Be safe.

If you're into our karaoke thing on the weekends and Monday nights, join the "special" Myspace page that's been set up by our hostesses for any upcoming events, news and other things (which can mean a lot of things - heh): Punk Rock n Schlock.
Also, did you know that there's an open mic comedy that happens every Tuesday at 6p in the back Parlor? You never know who might pop by to try out new material. Be sure to add their Myspace page as well if it's your thing.
Our door guy/bartender Les posted a new vid on his Youtube page. You might have seen a previous blog here on his past life, it looks like he's going to start doing some real news now. Cool stuff! Check out Bouncer News.
Many cool shows coming up at ASC, be sure to check out our calendar and we'll see you at the bar.
* It is a rainy and stormy night, and if you get stir crazy...well, you know where to go. It's an Alcoholocaust Show tonight (Friday) with Second Opinion, The Lewd, In Liars We Trust (LA) and Stiff Jean. Saturday night has The Symptoms, The Up and Down, and The Meat Sluts

No, you can't say it's champagne if it's not from France...so it's sparkling wine.
Yeah, kid you not. It's from Sophia Coppola and it's called "Blanc de Blancs". (Yes, Francis Ford C's daughter. Yes, the one who ruined Godfather 3. But yeah, she's a decent director and even won an oscar. Whoop!). So, it this a new trend now? Only time will tell. Hell, whoever thought "Sparks" was going to sell. Champagne in cans, only the best baby. When are the kids going to start drinking shots and brews again.
We saw Klaus Flouride talking old school at the bar one night. (DKs, The American Professionals and Go Going Gone Girls). Be sure to check out The American Professionals on Feb. 9th. It's always good to reminisce on old school days. Speaking of reminisce, Rina Niman (ex-booker from The Kennel Club) was sitting at the bar during a happy hour remembering when Annie's was the CW Saloon. Even Roger Rocha was there one night giving some support to the music scene as well. The guys in Le Plebe came down and showed their love for the Cobra Skulls.
The music scene still thrives in SF with a lot of new bands on the horizon. Check out the ASC calender, find the bands on Myspace, check 'em out at the club and show your support. Every now and then, this writer would sit at the bar and not know who's playing only to be blown away by a band on the stage that he's never heard of. It's all good.

Current mood: adored
Yup, you're going to start seeing more of this soon. Just an update on the goings on around the club. Not necessarily on who's playing, since you could read that in our calender, but maybe a "gossip" column maybe. We don't know yet...or I don't know yet.
Real quick, in case you weren't around when X played at Slim's, you missed them as well when Miss Annie herself brought them back to the club for some after show festivities last Saturday. I know they were in the photo booth a few times, I'm just curious to know if we get to see any of those pics. Stay tuned for any updates in the photo section.
Also speaking of photos, every now and then we troll Flickr and "steal" some of your photos for our page. So if you have anything interesting, let us know in a comment on the blog. Looking for band shots more or less. We at least need to chronicle who has played the stage - just in case they get big or something. Did you know that Nirvana had once played the stage of the old CW Saloon back in the day. Don't have any record of that either, I know they did, I was there...I wasn't that drunk either.
Yeah, that's about it for now. I think Sean's working the bar tonight with DJ Lush Yosh. Come on down and hang out...and while you're reading this, why don't you subscribe to it. Hell, might as well right?
