On the 23th of August YouEcho will show it's brand new musical animation, especially designed for Format GAVA. The movie will be beamed on 3 beamers on a beautiful location in a parc during festival Noorderzon. The music is performed live by YouEcho, again accompanied by trumpet player Milan Mes, and special guest poet Arnoud Rigter.

With the quotation from Murakami in mind a fisherman goes chasing his dreams to finally fish the birds from the sky.
Again the drawings are made by painter fben. This time YouEcho used filmmaterial from the archive of Groningen (GAVA) to fit in the animation story. The result will be half an hour of melancholic animation and music, and can be seen live twice on the 23th of August, at 22:00h and 23:30h. For the location check: www.youecho.nl/format-gava/.

YouEcho is asked to create a movie plus music especially for the Cross-linx festival in Eindhoven. The theme of this edition's festival  is "music for film". That's why on the market in the city-centre of Eindhoven a mini-bioscoop will be placed, where they show special movies.

For the animation YouEcho works together with painter fBEN; he draws beautiful ink-sketches, which YouEcho combines within an extremely zoomed scenery of photo- and filmshots.
The music will contain two pieces produced together with Chinese singer-songwriter Wu Zhuoling.
Alltogether it's a small melancholic story about a miner, who wants to get on top of the world.
Check the endresult on the 20th of March during the Cross-linx festival (headliner this year is Zita Swoon).

March 2009. Monokino will tour the USA in March and April 2009 and attend the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas.

Monokino will play a showcase together with Berlin act Boys Noize on Wednesday the 18th @ Elysium (705 Red River St) - 10:00 p.m.

Not sure if this is really 2009 but this years SXSW headliners are
DEVO (with Tricky), Tori Amos and Primal Scream. Other shows will take
place in New York, Washington, Boston and Philadelphia.

A Vice Magazine-MusicXport.nl showcase with other Dutch SXSW attendees will also happen on the 18th.

Monokino will play together with Kristeen Young & Cruel Black Dove on April 1 @ Santos Party House, New York.

A short update on how the Monokino China Tour is going so far. Monokino had some great sold out shows in Chongqing (Nuts Club) and Chengdu (Little Bar), the chinese audience responded very enthousiastic. We are in Shanghai at the moment and tomorrow we play in Yuyintang Club. After that show we fly to Xi'an for two more gigs (one has just been added on the 29th of september). The tour will be finished in Beijing at Mao Club. The day before we play at the biggest festival of China, Midi festival. At first no international acts were allowed to perform there this year (stupid government rule), but Midi got the permission at the very last moment, so we are lucky :)

Hi!

This month i will be touring China with my band Monokino! From 8 September until 8 October we will cross the country of the rizing sun.

Main reason is the record deal which Monokino has signed with Modern Sky, the largest independent label of China. The new album, 'Human Error', will be released this month.
The tour starts and ends in Beijing, and will pas clubs in Tianjin, Chongqping, Chengdu, Nanjing, Shanghai and Xi'an. (see googlemaps).

Komende maand ga ik met mijn band Monokino een maand op tournee door China! Van 8 september tot 8 oktober reizen we kriskras door het land van de rijzende zon.

Monokino just signed a record deal with China's biggest, most famous indie label, Modern Sky. Dutch/Chinese band Monokino has enjoyed much critical acclaim in recent years, and signing with a large label like Modern Sky will be a huge step for the band as its debut CD in China will be distributed all over the country. Piracy is rampant in China, but Modern Sky has a good reputation and Monokino has a lot of trust in this company to protect the band's intellectual property and reputation.

Modern Sky will have the exclusive licensing of the Monokino CD called "Human Error" within Mainland China. Modern Sky world partners include companies such as EMI, Pias, Beggars Group, Cooking Vinyl, Gronland, and G-Pop. The label's foreign releases in China include Radiohead's "Kid A," Mogwai's "Mr Beast," and albums from Echo and The Bunnymen, Mojave 3, Bauhaus, and others. Modern Sky also organizes its own music festival in Beijing. Headlining the festival in 2007 was the American band, Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Rumors were that Radiohead would be headlining the festival this year.
Modern Sky bands play at all the best clubs in China. Because of the minimal touring infrastructure there, Modern Sky's connections are of great value to Monokino. Compared to just five years ago, Chinese cities turn up more frequently on the touring schedules of Western bands. This year Nine Inch Nails, Avril Lavigne and Sonic Youth all played in China. Like many other Western acts, Monokino really enjoys playing in China because audience members have very few opportunities to experience foreign bands. The New York Times report: "When the Yeah Yeah Yeahs played the Modern Sky Festival, a three-day event at Haidian Park on the west side of Beijing, the fans waited in reverential silence between songs but erupted once the music kicked in, with fists in the air and young women screaming in the front." Monokino received the same enthusiastic reaction during their show at the Midi Music festival in 2006, as part of their first Beijing and Shanghai tour.

This September and October, Monokino will return to China to promote their CD. Monokino will be performing at various clubs throughout China. Highlights will undoubtedly be the upcoming Midi Music Festival and the Modern Sky Festival, both to be held in October. Monokino will subsequently return to China at the beginning of November for a major German festival to be held in Guangzhou.
