Current mood:  blessed
Yes, after a 6 month hiatus and significantly decreased touring schedule prior to that, Sol Spectre is officially disbanded.  We had a ton of fun playing music for everyone that came to our shows, even the ones who didn't get it/enjoy it, but mostly for the ones who did! To keep it short and simple, I lost my passion for the music and the direction it was going and needed a change. I rediscovered that passion in my new group DigitAlchemy, and will be re-directing my focus towards that project, which I would encourage you all to check out. Andy, Kevin, and Jay have showed interest in playing Kevin's music as a trio, and have not yet settled on an alias for that project. But I would also encourage everyone to keep their eyes open for their new group as well, as I'm sure it will be tight.

When I first formed this group, I had no idea how much the music would constantly change and evolve or where it would end up. I'm thankful for all the good times we had in the 3 years we were a band, even in the infant stages before Jay, Andy, and Kevin were members. since their permanent additions, I couldn't imagine the group with anyone except the four of us, which is why I discontinued use of it's name. No musician in this band could be replaced and still have the band known as Sol Spectre, therefore this will not ever happen with my blessing. I truly loved nearly every minute of the journey, even the bad ones, few as they were. I am very thankful for the many hours, efforts, and time that each one of us put into this group to make it the best it could be and have the utmost respect and love for each member of the band. Moreover, we are ALL grateful for you - the fan, the listener, and the lover of unique music - that helped spread this music throughout the region, nation, and world (we had pepole buying our album in Japan!). Thank you a million times and then a billion more, it really means a great deal to all of us to have had your support!!

Sincerely,
Aaron Bjerke

A big thank you to everyone who came out to Log Jam (and White Iron Band and MJG for putting it all together!) and supported the live local scene.  That fest was full of bands from the midwest, and it was great to hear and feel the sounds of music born and bred right here.

This weekend there are some fun shows happening ....

Friday, 6/27 we are playing at the House of Rock in Eau Claire with Max Power and the Feedback!

Saturday, 6/28 from 3pm-5pm we are going to be live on Eau Claire radio 96.3 (online @ whysradio.org) talking for a bit and then playing a full set of music!!  It is super cool that you can listen live on the internet ... we could potentially have the most people simultaneously listening to Sol Spectre ever!  I like that idea.  :)

Later that same day ... 6/28 we will be playing the Nice Ash Cigar Bar in Waukesha with Irie Sol!  Dual Sol action, plus it's hookah night!  WOOT!  Going to be some fun times.

Keep WEDNESDAY, JULY 9TH in your brains ... SOL SPECTRE, THE HISTRONIC, SHOELESS REVOLUTION @ THE CABOOZE!!!  This will be a good one.

Cheers, mates!  Have a good week!

Ok.  We've been doing some thinking here in Spectreland, and have come to a conclusion:
Being in a band is hard enough in practicing a ton and writing new stuff, in addition to having to get flyers out, get the word out, hang up posters, the list goes on (while all working day jobs or being in school etc etc bitch bitch bitch)

We want some help with this stuff!!  Of course, any help would be IMMENSELY appreciated and you would get on the guest list for any show you helped us hang up flyers for, in addition to perks like having us love you forever and ever and getting dibs on first copies of live recordings, setlists from shows, etc ....

Here's how this would work:
1) You read this, and you go, "Hey!  I want to help these poor guys!"
2) Get ahold of us somehow and tell us!
3) Depending on where you are, if you have a car, how much you're willing to do etc. we figure out how many poster/flyers/burned cds/etc to send out to you and will try to help you figure out good places to put them up ... obviously if you're outside of Mpls/Stpl we won't be much help in that last aspect ... but you guys would probably be the most help because we have no other way besides internet to get the word out in other areas!
4) We'd like some proof that you did the work, maybe use your camera phone and take pics of some flyers you hung up, etc etc ... we're really poor and have a very limited poster budget, so we need to make sure they're being used ...
5) You get into the show/s you worked on for free, and if you're really kicking a ton of ass by really spreading the word and getting tons of people out we'll hook you up accordingly ... I'll buy you a beer or two, or if you're underage I'll buy you dinner or something ...
6) That's about it!

Disclaimer:
*andy's thoughts ahead (uh-oh), may or may not represent the whole band*
:0P

If you're really into our music and music in general, you probably know that our music isn't exactly ... "accessible" for the "average" "person" "walking" "down the street".  I'm not trying to be pompous or say that we're special or "better than you" or anything like that, it is just a fact of the music world!  Not everyone loves what we do ... but when we find the people who do, they usually love it really hard and long and over and over again ... we just need to find those people!!!  That's where this comes in.  Please help us get out to those people!  You know who you/they are!  People who love jazz, who love electronica, who love synths and craaaaaaaaazy textures and soundscapes, people who love the playful sound of musicians "talking" onstage, people who play instruments themselves ...

The four of us in this band want nothing more in life than to be professional full-time musicians.  We all know that we COULD join (and have been in) any number of cover bands, vegas show bands, cruise ship bands, etc etc and do music full-time.  However, we all have a pretty strong band of musical integrity running through us, and would so much rather play the music that we want to play all the time ... even if it isn't "commercially accepted" from a marketing position.
THE POINT:
We need to find every last person on this planet who loves the music we love to play; and we need your help to do this.  There's only four of us, and (yes this is dreamland right now) we just want to write new songs and practice all day every day ... think of how tight it would be!!  Think of what it would be like to hear us play one day, and then hear us play 2 months later with an almost entirely new set of music!!  That's what this can be ...  and WILL be eventually but the sooner the better!!

We want to be the best band you've ever heard, and to get there, we need help.

-Andy

We'd like to thank everyone in La Crosse who consistently comes out to our shows and continues to spread the word each time we're due back. You all know who you are! It's always an awesome time with even better people and the crowd grows a little each venture back. Everyone who works at the Popcorn Tavern is always super friendly and in high spirits and it really has become  a home away from home. So pat yourselves on the back all of you Taverners, you fucking rock and we love you!!

Everyone in a band should make one of these and tell all their friends.  It's easy & free.  That is all.

Hello to all!

We'd just like to thank everyone who's been making the effort to come out and see our music - the last few months have been a blast!!  The music has taken us all over the upper Mid-West, from big festies like Wakarusa and 10KLF to rural small towns like Gays Mills, WI and Harrisburg, SD.  The best part is that all of you supporters have it made it a truly inspiring and educational experience, and it makes all the hours practicing, writing and booking worth the effort by tenfold.  As for all the folks who have been spreading our music around and helping get the word out, you are providing a lifeline for the music.  Without you, many people would never hear this kind of a sound and continue to listen to what was provided to them via radio and/or music televesion networks like MTV or VH1. Thanks for supporting the abract.

This winter should have some fun in store as well.  Some places we'll be visiting outside of the Twin Cities are Eau Claire, LaCrosse, Madison, and Menomonie, WI, Aberdeen and Sioux Falls, SD, Rochester, Duluth and Moorhead, MN, and Fargo, ND.  There is word of a New Year's show being planned too....

We look forward to seeing all the familiar and new faces at the upcoming shows!!

Take care,
~Sol Spectre~
