September 30, 2009 Hi there, As I'm sure everyone knows, October is breast cancer awareness month. There are lots of pink events and promotions going on all around us. Both Rockaway Townsquare Mall and Livingston Mall are doing Think Pink events to promote awareness and to raise money for The Komen North Jersey Affiliate. All month the Guest Services booths will sell pink ribbon cards ($1.00 each) that you can personalize - In memory of or In honor of. They will be displayed on a huge pink wall named The Wall of Hope and Strength. In Rockaway it will be located in the lower level JC Penney wing and in Livingston it will be in the Food Court. Proceeds will go to Komen. In addition, the malls will offer a pink ribbon antenna topper with the purchase of a pink ribbon giftcard all month long (a percentage will go to the Komen Foundation). On Saturday October 24th (Rockaway) and Sunday October 25th (Livingston) the malls will host one day events that will feature stations offering pink hair extensions, pink tattoos, pink carnations, pink balloons, pink manicures and pedicures, pink ribbon items for sale, complementary food tasting, giveaways, educational materials and of course MUSIC. That's where you guys come in. :-) I need 4 artists for Saturday, 10/24 @ Rockaway and 4 artists for Sunday, 10/25 @ Livingston. This is a benefit so I'm looking for people who will donate their time and talent. You will, of course, be able to sell your CDs (and last time we did music at the malls, every artist sold numerous CDs) and you can bring your mailing lists. Sound will be set up, but keep in mind - this is acoustic... I want solo or duo at most. The event will run from 12-4... 45 minute sets: 12:15-1:00, 1:15-2:00, 2:15-3:00 and 3:15-4:00. If you are interested in being part of this, please send me an email ASAP: swrnj@aol.com with a link to your music (webpage or MS page is fine). Put Rockaway or Livingston in the subject so I can stay organized. And please do not email MP3s. This should be a fun, upbeat and very busy event, and I hope some of you will consider playing or coming out to support. Breast cancer has touched most of us in one way or another, unfortunately. It's extremely personal for me... it'll be 10 years in November that I lost my sister to this awful disease. We have to keep on fighting until we find a cure.. I look forward to hearing from you. Love, Deb

January 24, 2009 Hi everyone -- I'm thrilled to share a couple of very exciting upcoming events. The first is a regional talent search/contest I've been working on with Simon Malls and Rob Fusari. I don't have ALL the specifics yet, but there's enough here to pique your interest. The second is an announcement for ASCAP New York Sessions - A One-Day Career Boost on March 10th. If you are a NJ Songwriters in the Round subscriber and an ASCAP member, you get special pricing. Registration info is below. Check both out! Deb ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ LOOKING TO GET DISCOVERED? Then look no further It's Official and the unofficial title is: Simon Says SING... What: A regional search for extraordinary talent Where: The events will take place at 5 NJ Simon Malls - Rockaway, Livingston, Menlo Park (Edison), Toms River (Ocean County Mall) and Newport Centre (Jersey City). Details: I will have all the details, guidelines and registration info in February, but the gist is: Auditions will be in front of a panel of music industry / celebrity judges. The first round (acapella) will be held at 1 mall per week for 5 consecutive weeks beginning at the end of April. Only 1 tryout slot per person. Registration forms will be available at the malls (not yet!) - but only the first 50 people in line will get to audition. Didn't get there early enough?... Don't worry, there will be a talent scout perusing the lines, so if you wow him - you'll get a wristband and will be allowed to audition along with the first 50. There are only (up to) 10 wow wristbands available at each mall. 3 semi-finalists per mall will be chosen to compete in the grand finale event (taking place in June). Each finalist will sing a (cover) song of choice along with a brand new original song, "A Mile Up Off The Ground" (Fusari/Ferrara). I may be looking for some OUTSTANDING musicians for the finale.
Prize: The winner gets a cash prize and a contract with Rob Fusari Productions (and another surprise.. but I can't mention it yet!). Rob's latest success is Lady Gaga (Interscope Records), #1 on Billboard's Hot 100.
We're serious. Are you? THIS WILL ROCK! .. The list of judges will be announced soo n. Z100 DJ Phill Kross is involved, the NY Times is covering the event and we have other media partners/sponsors lined up as well. Info will be available EVERYWHERE very soon, but you can always check www.myspace.com/debferrara for the latest.

D E C E M B E R N E W S L E T T E R November 30, 2008 In This Issue 1.) FROM DEB -- 2.) DECEMBER ARTISTS / WORDS ABOUT THE MUSIC -- 3.) SHOW DETAILS 4.) UPCOMING SWRNJ SHOWS -- 5.) THANK YOU NOTES 6.) SWRNJ ARTIST NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS -- 7.) UPCOMING EVENTS AND SEMINARS -- 8.) FINAL MUSINGS -- 1.) From Deb: Hi all, Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. I want to thank everyone who joined us for our special BMI GIRLS NIGHT OUT event on November 12th. It was an overwhelming success and lots of fun! I also need to send a big thank you to BMI's Christine Iglesias, Samantha Cox and Glenda Miller for helping and supporting the evening. I posted a few pictures on the NJ Songwriters page if you wanna check it out. www.myspace.com/njsongwritersintheround To those who played the "Mall Tour" at The Livingston and Rockaway Townsquare Malls - nice job! The feedback from the management and from the shoppers/audiences was fantastic. I'm hoping to be able to book more shows like that in the future. We're back at Maxwells on December 16th to celebrate the holidays, NJ Songwriters in the Round style. Anna Dagmar and Jon Lall will start the evening, and then we're opening the stage. Bring your guitar and sing us a tune or just come and share the evening with us. Free appetizers, free admission, great music and lotsa holiday cheer!
Best, Deb Ferrara Founder and Director NJ Songwriters in the Round www.moregoodmusic.com/swrnj www.myspace.com/njsongwritersintheround www.maxwellsnj.com www.myspace.com/debferrara www.myspace.com/901musicprod www.debferrara.com www.discovergirls.com www.cdbaby.com/debferrara 2.) WORDS ABOUT THE MUSIC Appearing December 16th: ANNA DAGMAR Just when you think you've got her pegged as another romantic piano girl, Anna Dagmar hits you with a collage of noise, a lament for fallen soldiers or an apocalyptic vision. Wait for the next song: it might surprise you. Tonight marks the first SWRNJ performance for British-born/Brooklyn-based artist Anna Dagmar. She will be featuring songs from her upcoming record, "Let the Waves Come in Threes," which has been produced by Ben Wittman (of Jonatha Brooke, Patti Larkin) and will be released in April 2009. Compared with text painters as wide in scope as Joni Mitchell and Franz Schubert, it will be a treat to hear Dagmar's songs in solo form, spontaneous and open, with a hint of holiday charm! www.annadagmar.com JON LALL Jon Lall, a 25-year-old singer-songwriter from Princeton, breaks stereotypes just by existing. There aren't many people his age who are of South Asian ancestry, especially from central Jersey, who have aspirations to be rock, pop, or R&B stars. He has performed at places like the Bitter End in New York, World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, and The Whiskey in Los Angeles. Jon's music has so many influences, and even though they are well blended, you can hear the souls of Stevie Wonder, the Beatles, and Otis Redding. He has been compared to contemporary musicians like Gavin DeGraw, John Legend, Adam Levine (of Maroon 5) and many others. www.myspace.com/jonlall

Thank you to everyone who played at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall this past Saturday and Sunday.
I got some great feedback from the shows.... The shoppers loved having the live music - the management loved having such INCREDIBLY talented original artists and everyone who played had a great time AND sold CDs.
A nice bonus is that we had (major label) industry visits a couple of times over the weekend... and 2 of our artists were approached. I will be sure to keep y'all posted.
There's something else brewing musically at the mall this coming spring... I can't discuss details yet, but it's a project that I'll be working on with Rob Fusari. I'm looking forward to doing lots and lots of writing! I'll share news when I can. :-)
Happy Thanksgiving!
Deb

They can then buy a sticker from our bartender for $5 to place on the ticket. That will entitle them to up to 3 hours of parking. BUT...unfortunately that lot closes at 11 p.m. during the week.
2. Park on Park 14th and Park. Ask the bartender to stamp the parking ticket. The patron will then be able to park for $5 (paid directly to the lot). This lot is further away but it is open all night.
