Hello fellow Pixie-lovers, Well, well, well. Here we are at the end of 2009! We just want to take this opportunity to thank you all for being our loyal fans, friends, clients and supporters throughout this crazy journey of our first year (well, not quite a whole year year yet) of Pixie Music! As a special thankyou, we'd love you to all come to our Pixie Xmas Party - This Friday the 18th December at the Lass O'Gowrie in Newcastle, so we can all have a drink, catch up and perhaps you can earn yourself a special Pixie Xmas Gift! On the bill are Jet To Vegas, The Zillers, CentreSection & VAMP. Pixie HQ will be operating as normal over the Xmas/NYE period (except for the public holidays). Hello Pixie Friends & Foes!


Hope you all have been having a fantastic month and enjoying the fruits of Spring.....

 

Once again, we have been super busy reigning in some great new clients, talking about some cool future collaborative projects and of course, working overdrive for our current acts!

 

There is barely time for breath, let alone leaving our desks, so luckily we love our work to bits and love the people we work for and with.

 

If you haven’t already, put the 18th December in your diaries – It’s our 2nd  Pixie Music Presents (PMP) event – A Rockin’ Xmas! Come and celebrate Christmas with us – PMP will be held at the Lass in Newcastle again after a hugely successful first PMP there. Get there early and leave late. It’s going to be a big one! This event will feature VAMP + more to be announced very soon.....

 

Also, we have just taken up a residency at the Lass as well – First Wednesday of every month for 2009 at least. We will mostly be showcasing our artists on these nights, but if you are interested in playing a Pixie Music Presents in 2010, please send us an email with a link to your music. Our first night will be the 4th November, with line-up to be announced very soon.

Congrats are in order for they have just been announced on the line-up for NYE @ The Brewery in Newcastle, alongside Living End, Children Collide and Dead Letter Circus. Benjalu have also been nominated for the Newcastle ABC 1233 Awards in the Folk, Blues & Roots and Best Male Vocalist categories. The Finalist announcements continue this week, so check out 1233AM or keep an eye on our/their pages for more info.

They are definitely a finalist in the Blues/Roots Category so far!

Good day fellow Pixie friends!

Hope this finds you super well and enjoying the first little hints of Spring. Thank goodness. Us Pixies like the warmth of the sun, the salt smell of the beach on our skin…Not that we get much beach time ‘coz we are too busy working our little pale booties off!

So much been happening as per usual. I am writing to this news update as I listen to the fabulous Beck’s “Mellow Gold” album that we picked up from Melbourne…Just got back from a wee jaunt down there and hoping to bring some of the creative vibe, arty thinking and new-found venue knowledge to all of our lovely clients in the near future.

Hey all!

Thankyou for joining us for this fantastic fifth month of Pixie Music! To all those that have been coming along to our clients’ shows, thanks a bunch.

Make sure you have our Pixie Music Presents gig in your diary – This Friday at the Lass in Newcastle. If you haven’t been to a Pixie-related gig yet, be sure not to miss our first ever Pixie Music Presents (PMP) showcase event, this Friday at the Lass O’Gowrie in Newcastle. Bring your friends, your Mum, your dog (well, maybe not the dog) – Music provided by Benjalu, Opei, Sketching Cato & VAMP. It’s free entry and doors open at 8.30pm. Bring some spare change as Benjalu, Sketching Cato & VAMP will have CDs to buy and we will be revealing our special Pixie Music tees as well! Hi y’all and thanks once again for reading this here update from Pixie HQ!

Apologies for the delay – Us Pixies have been extremely busy since we last spoke...

Join us this month in celebrating our fifth month in business! Yes, it has been an adventurous year for us, but we have loved every minute and are really proud of what we have achieved thus far!

And onto the news:

* VAMP have been absolutely on FIRE since last month! Clocking up the ks (and the gigs), the girls have been really getting themselves out there, and having heaps of fun in the process!

Their demo, recorded with Heath Rowley, will be up on their MySpace very soon, so keep checking it out. Also, Kenny and Lloyd from The Studio have kindly offered to record some tracks – Should be finished any minute!

They are actually looking for a new bass player - Preferably female, must be able to sing also & be very committed! If interested, hit 'em up on MySpace: www.myspace.com/vamptheband

* Sketching Cato have been really getting on the EP touring bandwagon and doing their thang in Manly, the Gong and the Central Coast! Only 2 more shows left of their Launch Tour, so if you’re in the Port Macqaurie neck of the woods (30th July @ Macquuarie Hotel) or Sydney (1st Auugust @ Lansdowne Hotel) you should definitely check ‘em out and buy their EP. It’s pretty damn good.

* Sarakula releases his brand new album “City Heart” this Friday, the 17th July. City Heart sees Sarakula head in a new musical direction, and boy it’s a good one! He will embark on his partly Pixie-planned launch tour right up and down the East Coast at the end of this month. Do yourself (and your ears) a favour and check him out in your nearest town! 

* CentreSection have just finished their new CD. There are some tracks up on their MySpace now, which are sounding quite awesome! They remind us of Big Heavy Stuff (favourites here in the Pixie office) - definitely a good thing indeed. Pixie are slogging away at planning their launch tour and PR as well. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears open for these boys!

* Caleb Skips Chemistry are also putting the finishing touches, blood, tears and sweat into their new EP. We Pixies are excited to be planning their tour and helping them out with PR too. These kids are full of addictive and inspirational energy and you will be blown away by them live. Look out!

* Nathan Kaye (blues/roots solo multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire) is the newest edition to Pixie Music! We are helping him out with some tour planning, as well as looking into grant and festival opportunities. We are super happy to have him on board!

* We are uber-excited about our first ever Pixie Music Presents gig in August! The line-up is bursting with indie-music delights, VAMP, Sketching Cato, Opei and Benjalu.

And best of all, it’s free! That means, you can spend your money on drinks…and merch. That’s right, Pixie will have our very own merchandise for sale. Sexy shirts for girls and boys will be revealed on the night!

Friday August 14th @ Lass O’Gowrie, Wickham - 8pm.

SO SO much has been happening here in Pixie Land that I haven't even had time to fill you all in!

Thanks to all our new friends, clients and all the lovely people that have been coming along to the VAMP and Sketching Cato shows. We really appreciate the support and your time and love of music.

In brief...

- Last week, Sketching Cato launched their awesome new self-titled EP to a packed Cambridge Hotel! They sold quite a few discs and played like the rock-maniacs they are! They are now embarking on a Pixie-planned launch tour, hitting Manly this Saturday night, then heading to the Central Coast, Wollongong, Port Macquarie and Sydney again! Hello Pixie Friends!

Thanks for joining me for another update installment from Pixie HQ.

I am looking through our office window right now to a beautiful sunshiny day...The Js cranking in our lounge room and plenty of Easter eggs to snack on! Life is good.

Hope you all had a lovely Easter...We worked, but loved it!

So anyways, here's a bit of a snapshot to what we have been up to since last time I posted:

- Signed our first act to management...VAMP! Look out for their MySpace coming soon. Their Newcastle debut for us is the 15th May - 8.30pm at the Lass O'Gowrie in Wickham. We'd love to see you there.

So, I guess I should say welcome to Pixie! Thanks for being our friend and fan, and I hope you enjoy your time with us.

Thought I would give you a little update as things get moving - We will have a monthly Pixie Mail newsletter as of May, which you can sign up to on our website when it launches next month.

We've been accepted into the New Enterprise Initiative Scheme (NEIS), which is a 12 month program in which we get mentoring and some financial support to get our business up and running! How exciting! We are stoked, and if you are starting up a new business, you should definitely look into it. We are both now certified in Small Business Management, and have our Advanced Diplomas in Music Industry Business - Look out!

A quick introduction also - Pixie Music is myself (Cindra) and Libby. We love music (obviously) and really wanted to get into the industry and work for ourselves, so we did it! And we love it!

Have just started work on a couple of cool jobs for new clients - Keep your eyes and ears out for what we do in the coming weeks.
