A democratic movement born in the late 80s, formed from part football
hooligan, part soul boy– Boy’s Own combined music, with art and
fashion. From their exclusive parties in stately homes, Dave Little’s
stylised artwork, underground fanzine, and record label - the Boy’s Own
Crew set the standard for a multi-dimensional crusade to change the
face of Britain – they did it.

Boy’s Own Legend Terry Farley, gives Firmament his top ten tracks from that classic era, and just why he loves them so much.
1. Paradiso – ‘Here We Go Again’. Reminds me of Rampling playing for Boy’s Own at the Broadstairs all-dayer - a hard to get Italian disco beauty!
2.St Etienne – ‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart’ - my fave Weatherall mix of all time, really summed up the down-tempo dubbed out vibe of post acid house clubs such as, Monkey Drum and Future
3.Rickster – ‘Night Moves’ - played at the mad party we had at some hippy dudes farm near Milton Keynes. That made The Sun newspaper, as the fucker was renting it from the queen!
4. DSK – ‘What Would We Do’ (8 min of madness mix) - when Tony Humphries played this at a Ministry of Sound’s opening party it made Heller and Farley's name as remixers.
5. Fire Island – ‘Beat In Your Bones’ - based on a jingle taken from Tony Humphries NYC mix show.
6. Style Council – ‘Shout To The Top’ - played by Andrew at a big warehouse party we did in Wimbledon. 500 people locked outside and the bubble machine on overload as this monster kicked in!!
7.Jackie Wilson – ‘Sweetest Feeling’ - a prime example of ecstasy soul
8.Paul Rutherford – ‘Get Real’ - one of the best UK house records – EVER. Paul was a regular at the Boy’s Own doo's too.
9. Xpress 2 – ‘Music Xpress’ - part of Junior Boys Own’s many homage’s to Junior Vasquez's Sound Factory nights
10. Chaka Khan – ‘Aint Nobody’ (Frankie Knuckles dub) - an ultimate E /MDMA record!
Thanks Terry!

Chris Galloway from Soft Rocks was a regular at the Boy’s Own parties, and has gone on to become synonymous with making top quality music from a myriad of genres with Soft Rocks. Here’s his Top Ten, and just why he loves them.
1: Ce Ce Rogers - Someday (A voice from heaven a bass-line from hell and penned by Marshall Jefferson...say no more)
2: Sade - Turn My Back On You (Sade's heavenly voiced Balearic boogie tune that became a staple Rampling warm-up favourite at Shoom)
3: Simple Minds - Theme For Great Cities (Incredible instrumental pop / rock gem that typified the early Andrew Weatherall sound)
4: Bang The Party - Release Your Body (Raw house music that's been rarely bettered in my opinion)
5: Womack & Womack - Life Is Just A Ball Game (Another staple Shoom warm up favourite for Danny Rampling that I will never forget)
6: Thrashing Doves - Sympathy For The Devil (Live) (The record that I remember most from the Boy’s Own East Grinstead party)
7: Ten City - That's The Way Love Is (What a record...house music to die for, Marshall Jefferson was a genius)
8: Dizzi Heights - Would I Find Love (A Weatherall re-discovery that blew our minds)
9: Funk Express - Funk Express (Cut and paste funk dance madness that the Italians were so good at)
10: Richie Havens - Going Back To My Roots (The first time i heard this was at Shoom in 1988 and when I play it today in 2009 it still has the same spine tingling effect)
Thanks Chris! You may find one or two of these on the Boy’s Own ‘For That Night In East Grinstead’ mix…

A little taster from the upcoming promo mix, which is included with each Boy's Own T-shirt purchased. Rare Boy's Own classics, which give a flavour of those iconic parties.
www.MySpace.com/firmamentberlin
Mixed and blended by Soft Rocks, with input from Terry Farley - Soft Rocks attended many of the parties, and have an archive of many records played at those events. The mix features extremely rare tunes that are almost impossible to find – making this even more of a collectors item, giving a snapshot of those hedonistic days.
