Jason and Bryan take you on an exciting journey into the minds of two musicians who are trying to create an "intelligent pop" CD. In this episode, you'll learn about the joys of editing a tempo map

Saturday, May 19, 2007

ok, i have decided that i am ready to give away a few things.
like CD's, T shirts, lots of stuff . . .

download one of our songs (you don't have the album) and make a music video far it.

it doesn't matter what song . . . it can be serious or goofy. . . it can be you dancing to it, singing to it, acting, racing dirt bikes. . . it doesn't matter.

just post them on youTube, make sure "the highway beautiful contest1" is somewhere in the title or the tags and then let me know that it's up.

we'll judge based on the number of views your video has, the comments people leave and on how much we like it. . . and if we like it we'll post it on our profile too:)

so go.

make a movie :)

Here are some ideas i had, if you have others, let me know:
-Listen!! we need plays, if you can listen a few times a week, that would help.
-Sign up for our newsletter, so you know when we have shows and stuff like that.
-Put us somewhere on your page (fav bands, post a banner, anything;)
-Use our ringtones- they are free, it only costs as much as a pic message (they are listed in a blog)
-Buy the Album!! you can get it on iTunes for $9.99, $12.00 on CDbaby, or $4.99 by using your cell. (more details below:)
-Recruit your friends! if you could get 10 friends into our music that would be great:)
let me know if you can do any of these and how it goes:) thanks SOOO much!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BUY THE ALBUM FOR $4.99
Use your cellphone to buy the full album "The Things That Lights Can Hide" for only $4.99 u ask?
You don't need a checking account or a credit card, just:
Text the word: LIGHTS to 23333 and you can buy the album for $4.99.
It'll be charged directly to your cell phone bill.
Then you'll get a text message giving you a 5 digit DOWNLOAD code and a web address, you go there and just download it to your computer.
You don't download it to your phone, you just use your phone as a tool to buy it, if that makes sense.
* Service does not work for T-Mobile or Cricket users.
----
here's a little more info about how to buy "the Things that Lights can Hide" (my
CD:) for $4.99 using your cellphone: ( i gues the above directions confused some people;)
1.) You text LIGHTS to 23333
2.) You then are texted back a passcode and a web address.
3.) You go to the webaddress on your COMPUTER, enter in the passcode and download the song ON YOUR
COMPUTER
(i think thats what is confusing people, you don't download it to your phone,
you use the phone for billing only, the $4.99 is charged to your cellphone bill
and the music is downloaded onto your COMPUTER just like iTunes or Napster.)
            * Service does not work for T-Mobile or Cricket users.

You can still get the CD on iTunes for $9.99 (just search "the highway
beautiful" on iTunes)
You can still buy a hard copy of the album at CDBaby for $12.97
(
www.cdbaby.com/cd/highwaybeautiful)
Or you can write me a letter asking for one and for $10.00 plus a few bucks for
postage, i'll mail you one:)
If you don't have the album, please get it . . . i don't want to come across
like a PBS broadcast, but if you do like the music i am creating, i do need
support. . thanks;)

| DON'T READ THIS . . . |

i think i should warn you. . .this is the most boring thing ever written. . . if you read it you will hate me for writing it. there is nothing in it worth reading i wrote it really late at night when i though i would write a good bio but i failed. my english skills are somewhere around that of a retarded monkey who speaks only german, so I apoligize. . .

anyway. . .

. . . have you read some bands bios? they sound super cool and after i finish reading the band i feel like they are destined to stardom and that they must be pretty famous even though i've never heard of them. this is not that kinda bio. if you read this and think i am famous, then i have no idea what you read. all you will learn is that i am a big dork and a slow typer (ok, i guess you won't be able to tell how fast i typed this but, it does prove that i'm lame and my sense of humor is really really dumb.)

anyway. . .

i was never what you would call a cool kid, i was a band geek (i was in marching band which i really liked. . . I played saxophone and I wasn't very good. . .we had two bands; concert and symphonic, and although the band director swore up and down that their was not a "good" band and a "bad" band. . . and that one band just played more challenging music, EVERYONE knew that that was crap and that if you were playing the same music you played in 6th grade you probably sucked. . . anyway, i was in the crappy band. first chair of the crap band. i was best of the worst haha. . .moving on. . .) but i was never fully accepted there either (because i sucked). i had bad acne and i couldn't play sports, so i did the only thing i could to feel cool. i started a band with equally uncool kids and we called ourselves acrylic armor, which is an awesome name despite what you are thinking right now. . . as time went on i found it hard to keep bands together, which bring me now. . .

(this is the only paragraph worth reading so I'll make it bolder)

i'm not really a band, i'm just me, and i've been writing songs since I was about sixteen. for most of my existance as a musician i have been behind a drumset until relatively recently (what wonderful alliteration:) opportunities for me to perform my own material started coming in more and more, so i've put my sticks down for now and am playing 'round the world (OK, mostly the east coast) I am constantly looking for more shows and more opportunities, so if you know of any cool places, please let me know:)

if you have any questions, please write me. . . sometimes it takes me a while to write back but i try my best. if you have any questions about a show though, all the info is listed in the blue box above called "shows". . . the time the address, all that stuff is right there:)

I have been having quite a few people ask me for lyrics and chords and tabs and i have been really lazy about getting them posted. . . but thanks to the help of some ambitious young men, i have gotten most of them done.

If you are trying to learn the songs, thanks. . . that means a lot. let me know how they go, and i know this sounds funny, but if they are wrong let me know so i can fix them:) lol i've never tabbed anything before, so although i know how to play them fine, i may have written them wrong lol

SO BEAUTIFUL

I just want to fall I love, so I can get you out of my head, out of my head

I just want to fall in love so I can be with someone else and forget about you, so I can just forget about you

I know. . .i need to let this go

I know I need to let this pain go

But you look so beautiful, did you cut your hair

You look so happy now that I'm not there

you look so beautiful, life's so unfair

You look so happy now that I'm not there

Now that I'm not there, do you miss me do you care

Now that I'm not there, do you miss me . . .

Intro:

G            D            Am (x2)

ON YOUR OWN

hey where did you go, I was talking

you get there faster not walking around in circles

but that's all you ever do, you walk around in a loop

and it gets you nowhere but it takes your soul far

away to where confusion and frustration play

and if you don't mind me, I think I'll say,

"Don't try and do this on your own."

What did you think that you could do

Did you think that you could prove

That you were trying to make things better

Drowning in thoughts inside your head as tears make rivers down your bed

And they take you so far

away to where confusion and frustration play

and if you don't mind me, I think I'll say, "Don't try and do this on your own."

"Don't try and do this on your own."

An accident can it be real,

mistakes you do they make you feel so alone, like you're so-not-worth-it

You're on the outside looking in,

standing in the rain again waiting for the rain to make your tears blend in

but I can see them running down, yes I can see falling down

I can see them running down

PAINT

Color in the empty outlined pages

With hues from all around

Take some beauty from up in the heaven

Hold on tight, ride them down

to the paint by numbers unpainted in

to the water colors dry

A heart still longing for second chances

While first chances die

Watching, the smiles on the children's faces

Chasing a bubbles flight

Behind your eyes your dreaming

But, you save those dreams for night

You leave the paint by numbers unpainted in

and the water colors dry

the inks meniscus still unbroken

the authors thoughts untried

remember starry mornings beat the sunrise

but when that sun does shine

the world is left in awesome wonder

at the color of downs sky. . .

A GROWN UP CHILD'S SONG

A child's hurting, trapped inside

Beneath a smile, tortured memories hide

Clear the canvas the road is blood stained red

Share my burden, memories of the dead

I've been lonely, I've been left behind

Stolen grieving, that was never mine

Years of lacking, lie in wait

Misdirection, confusion ill placed hate

The false front's falling, love is to its knees

The placid home front in calamity

I've been lonely; I've been left behind

I've been down this road a thousand times

I've been lonely I've been left behind

Stolen grieving, that was never mine

I thought that time would come to heal, cleanse my wounds and make me free

All alone in my regret, seconds turn to decades but still I bleed, I bleed

Hello nighttime, star bright

Snow covered granite under the moonlight

This is not, what supposed to be

Wrapped inside my Christmas memory

I've been lonely, I've been left behind

Stolen grieving, that was never mine

SUPERMAN

Verse1:

D            A            B                      G

I'm not made of steel, I'm flesh and bones

I hear that steel is cold and hard, uncomfortable

I am warm, and you are soft

And together we'll be safe

And I'll protect you, whenever times are hard

Chorus 1:

I can be a superman for you

I'll sweep you off your feet

A princess you will be to me

yeah

Verse2: (enter drums and bass)

A locomotive has more power than I do

But it can only go where men have said its tracks can be

I'd go anywhere if you wanted to

We could take on this world together

Chorus 2:

I can be a superman for you

I'll sweep you off your feet

D            A            B                      G         D (build)

A princess you will be for me . . . for me

Bridge:

Em             G                     D            C#/D

I know that times will be, difficult but we

Can rely on what we have and that's each other

I don't know whats ahead of us, no-one does except Jesus

But just remember that . . .

Chorus 3: (guitar only)

I can be a superman for you

I'll sweep you off your feet

                                 B        G

A princess you will be for me

Chorus 4:

I can be a superman for you

I'll sweep you off your feet

A princess you will be for me (X2)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ANOTHER DAY

It's late and I am tired, remembering the anniversary of days gone by

Colored, faded, shaded, by emotions intertwined

With reality, its playing with my sanity

Making me confused

Not how I thought it'd be, in this land of make-believe

Where people are getting used

And these sleep blurry eyes cried dry,

Are drifting into another lonely night

Here's to another sunrise, picking up the pieces of an otherwise broken life

Here's to another day and getting through it again

Are you wondering how it'll go?

Cause I'm hoping that it'll end

Let it go, slowly

Maybe then no one will even notice me

And I've told you so many times to stay behind these tired eyes

But you keep finding your way out,

Letting out just how I feel before I even know what's real

And what this is all about. . .

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

REASSURANCE

Verse 1 (guitar and loops only)

I hear that you're not having the best of days so I though that I'd stop by

I understand that you're feeling down, please try to wipe away that frown

And you're worried I can see your tears

And I'm not you but I can imagine what you fear

And we can't be sure what life will bring

But we can relax and listen to the angels as they sing

Chorus 1:  (enter drums and bass)

A            C#            B

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Ahhhhhhhhhhaaaahhhhhhhh

Verse 2:

C#                               D#/ B                           C#/ A                           B

And like the old clichés I can tell you that everything will be ok

C#                               D#/ B                           C#/ A                                                               E

But we have much more than sappy lines, to let us know for certain that everything will be fine

Chorus 2:

A            C#            B

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Ahhhhhhhhhhaaaahhhhhhhh (x2)

Verse 3. (loops only)

I realize that this simple therapy might not be exactly what you need

(enter drums, bass and guitar)

C#                               D#/ B                           C#/ A                                       E

But I just wanted you to hear that if you need to cry or if you want to cry. . .I'll be here…

<FONT face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Chorus 3:

Current mood:remenisent
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

i was asked the following question:

"Which song was it that first made you think "My God! Music is amazing and I wanna do that!"

which got me to thinking. . .  so here is the answer i wrote back and since it was so long i decided i wanted to get as much mileage out of it as possible so i put it in a blog:) lol

"i don't think it was a song that made me originally want to do it:)  i dated a girl whose mom was a choir director and i always tapped on things. . . they wanted a drummer for their "teen worship team" and asked me to do it.  I said no, pointing out that tapping on things during a song and being a drummer were not the same things. . . my gf kept bugging me so i said, fine I would try even though i had never played drums.

A guy from the church gave me a lesson on a snare drum and i did it.  i sucked really really bad. . . i just went tap tap tap on the snare drum, it was horrible.  Then another guy from the church came up to me and offered drum set lessons to me free on charge (probably so he could survive the service) so i said yeah, by the middle of lesson one (1) I was hooked.

My friend Adam had a guitar and knew a few chords (and by a few i mean its literal definition of three). . . he played gtr in the "teen worship band" To give you an idea of how things went down when we played, when he didn't know a chord, which was most of the time, he was just silent. . . so i went:

tap tap tap

and he went:

strum. . .strum. .. silence. . . . . . . .strum silence. . . strum. . .

you can imagine how awful we must have been:) so we naturally thought that we should start a band. . .

We added another guy, Nick, cause we needed a bass player. Below is the actual dialoge:

Jason (me): "hey Nick, adam and I are starting a band and we need a bass player. You wanta play bass for us??

Nick: "Bass, like bass drum??"

Jason (me, again): "No, like bass guitar"

Nick: "Whats that?"

Jason: THIS IS NOT A QUOTE cause i don't remember what i said but it explained that we weren't really weren't sure what it was or why bands had it but we knew all bands had one so we wanted one too.  this explaination proved sufficient because he then said,

Nick: "yeah sure get me one and i'll do it"

so we got him one (it was hot pink) and he played bass for us.

Another guy we knew, Justin, sang in church a lot and he sang in chorus in school, we didn't know anyone else who could/ would sing so he came on board. I wanted him to just play keyboard and fill in on vocals until we could find someone awesome but for whatever reason no one awesome really wanted to join our band. So Justin sang (as an side note, justin didn't suck , i just thought he sang too nasally, this itsn't gossip cause i told it to his face about a billion times, we actually became super good friends (we all did really:) and he i thought he wrote good songs.)

There it was . .  my band, we were terrible and we were called Acrylic Armor (which is a name i loved and to this day think was awesome, despite criticism from everyone else:) haha I became unhealthily obsessed and just loved making music. .

SOOOO. . .there wasn't really an artist that i aspired to be like or a song i wanted to recreate, i just liked making stuff that i thought sounded good (which probably sounded pretty bad for quite a while.  I hope that answers the question : )

Current mood:  exhausted
so many things that i could give my time to every day and which one is the best canadate always seems to become clear after i 've cast my vote for its opponant. with poor choices comes poor results and poor results are all around me. a farmer at autumn's harvest fights the shortening days and i feel like i am running out of time. . . i'm getting no younger, and i play a young man's game. I have swam much too far to turn back, and in water much too stormy to be rescued. . . the sea has to calm eventually, right? then my struggles will subside and I will reach the promised land and be welcomed into open arms? or will i chock on my problems, tire from exertion and finally sink into oblivian with a million others like me.

. . .end of thought
