My Rock Club, Generation X, is 6 years old this Friday and to celebrate we have a special night of partying planned, including Special Guest DJ Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols)




It's strange to think that Generation X has been going for 6 years and weirder when I think back to when we started the night, to cater for the upcome music that wasn't being represented in the clubs in Bristol in 2001, that the night would still be going strong today.

Nu-Metal, Ska Punk and Hard Edged Alternative was making it's way into the hearts and minds of the Alternative kids that liked a bit of rocking in their night out and that was the basis of the music policy of the night when it started. As the alternative music scenes expanded and new genres were created we moved to cater for these as well but there is always one thing that has guided the night, and that has never been ignored, and that is the requests of the customers that come down to the club. Ultimately the night is for those people.

Over the years the description of the night has altered but the emphasis is still the same as it was on the first night that Generation X ran at the Mandrake Club, it's all about having a good time and rocking out on the dancefloor.

The DJs I work with have changed over the years, Missing Link (co-founder) left Bristol to return to his home town of Reading. MattSetback moved up from pre-club DJing at the White Hart Pub, to take on the role of resident DJ and Old Man Rich joined us more recently after cutting his teeth on the Bristol Rock scene with his own night "The Shocker".
Over the years we have also had other guest DJs join us behind the decks: Dr Stein (The Hatchet, Bristol), Silent Tom (Sabotage, Bristol), itBoy (Discord, Bath), Toby White (NWS/Ako/Psycho Baby) plus a host of young DJs from UBU and UWE Rock Societies. All bringing their musical tastes to the club and rocking the dancefloor with passion.

I thank you all for your time, your ability and for rocking the party.

For the future of Generation X we are planning to incorporate live music into the line up of the night as well as rocking dancefloor of the best rock club in Bristol.
At present we are working out the details for the inclusion of live music in the night and should know more soon.

Generation X has led the way in contemporary rock clubbing in Bristol when there was nothing for the new generation of rock club goers.
Other clubs have been inspired by us so we must be doing something right :)

But, most importantly, it was down to the dedicated regulars that have come to the night, some for most of the 6 years Generation X has run, and kept the dancefloor rocking from the first night.

To you all, thank you.
