Now this is a pretty touchy subject so we'll try to hit the highlights. The music industry is very cut throat..A number of bands have found this out to be true just playing their first few gigs around their local towns. How we know this, we are in bands too.

First and foremost bands are considered a dime a dozen anywhere to most and can be replaced instantly in the music business.

This thinking comes from folks wanting to make a quick buck and that's really all that is on their minds, the money! Don't get us wrong there are some awesome folks that do a great job taking care of bands..You know who you are and we think you are Outstanding!

But on the other hand these other folks know that bands just want to play and most will play for FREE or for little of nothing! Just to have a crowd in front of them. This is called giving it away! No matter how you look at it..Mean huh, Sorry!

Reality Check Bands
Ok, Here is the reality check..You are in a band with some of the best buddies ever, just like one big family. The band practices several times a month, writing and banging out new tunes. Also, buying new gear and trying to get that sound that makes your band unique. That is truly awesome! There is no better feeling than having your own band, you feel like you could conquer the world with your music..Yeah Baby!

Well, all the sudden your band is ready to go play a show and you hookup with either another band and open up for them or you throw a show of your own for all of your friends and family. After the show you are praised for how great your band sounded, so this completely pumps the whole band and your ready to hit the road and tour. Anything, you just want to keep playing live..There is no greater feeling on earth than playing in front a of a crowd digging your band..Best high ever!

Now back to business
Ask yourself or ask the band..Did I or we make in money? The reason we bring this buzz kill up is. Someone made the money if there was a crowd..Right! Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out at all, does it.

Here is our point
Don't give it away all the time, You have to at first to get the ball rolling and every band that ever was had to at some point. Just think about this all the time, money and effort put into your band..You are worth the respect to get paid!

Now a few words from how we feel about a Publicist..

A publicist is the true meaning of a successful band and a band not being so successful. Bottom line..In our opinion, you could be a star before you ever hit the stage at a local venue. How does this happen and were do I meet a publicist. I will tell you in a bit..

Here at our agency, we have our own publicist inhouse. I am typing to you right now. I wear several hats to make this booking agency run and work on several side projects daily for other companies, we do business with. So, not everyone can multi-task and I will be honest it is overwhelming at times, but that is why our agency is getting so popular.

You can be the publicist for your own band, but as you can see it takes a lot of time. Like this blog I am typing for you to view. Since I have been writing this blog, I started at 3:35 PM and it is now 3:57 PM and I am still not finished explaining to you how a publicist can help your band, Or am I..Yes, I am see it is time consuming as you can see. This is how a publicist can help your band. Instead of you writing ads and promoting your band a publicist can do it all for you and you then can do what you do best..Make Music!

Where do you find a Publicist?

look in your local phone book - do a search on Google - submit an ad to a local newspaper in search of a publicist.

Now who is a good Publicist?

One that has a history of working with bands is a great one to have, but not necessary if they are a music lover and enjoy your material they will probably do a good job promoting your band.

What does it cost?

A publicist can be affordable or very expensive..Budget is the factor here. Most bands don’t have any budget at all..I know this I have been a musician for over 25 years.

Here is a couple of ideas to keep in mind

If someone in your band has a credit card or can get one with a good limit on it. Here is your money for a Publicist. Just make sure you make a band fund that pays the card off, to get an increased limit to do more with a publicist.

Another way is to ask family or friends to help invest in your project. Offer them a cut of your CD and Merchandise sales..
