Them Damned Young Livers

"Let the Sin Begin"
Released 2008

Gary:  There was no real message in their music that I could find.  Then again, after so many beers I can’t find myself.  I challenge you to drink a beer a song and tell me you don’t like them.  No, seriously, they’re an excellent band.  Their cd “Let the Sin Begin” is great, but honestly it doesn’t do their live show justice.

Leslie:  Okay, so to be fair, Gary saw Them Damned Young Livers live.  Even got some damned good photos while he was there.  I haven’t met the guys, but they sent along a copy of their newest cd.  And let me tell ya…

You have never been preached to like this brothers and sisters!

Them Damned Young Livers bring new meaning to "holy rollers" and the word they preach with their newest cd, “Let the Sin Begin”.  Lots of words have been used to describe these boys, probably because they just don’t fit into any one category.  Rock-a-billy, cowpunk, whatever you want to call it.  Gary says he didn’t get a “message” from their music, but we both agree that Jody Hendrix writes one helluva story.  The cd is brilliant from the album art (Chris Wilson), to the final cut, “Down By the Riverside”, a little nod to gospel. I actually laughed when I opened it and saw the inside was laid out like a page from the Bible; each set of song lyrics being a verse.   And it’s hard to imagine anyone's voice besides Hendrix pounding out the vocals.  Hendrix (vocals, juice harp), Tripp Kirby (guitars and keys), Ryan Cummings (bass) and the Reverend Bob Lyons (percussion) put an amazing amount of energy into every cut.  These boys know what they’re doin’!

Or as Hendrix would say “Amen God dammit, I’m your new bad habit”.

First, we have to say YOU GUYS ROCK!

Gary, Cory and I want to thank all of you that have joined us here in the last month.  The support for the new magazine has been nothing short of AMAZING!
Spread the word, subscribe to our blog, visit the mag and leave comments on interviews and photo galleries.  We want to know what you think of what we're doing so far!

A lot of you have come on board, but don't really know what we do and why we do it.  We need to clarify that our MySpace site isn't the actual magazine.  It's a gathering place for our friends, bands and artists, and a great way for us to get the word out to everyone about what's new in the magazine.  With all that said, we're gonna to take a little time and fill you in about our mission, and who we are.

Zimm's Music and Entertainment Review exists to promote and support emerging and established talent in all areas of music, entertainment and the arts.  We are not exclusively a showcase for music, although that's where our roots are.
As we expand our coverage, we'll be bringing reviews, articles and interviews to you on gallery shows, fashion designers, artists, and anyone else we find interesting.

Our philosophy is simple:  To do what we love, 'cause if it comes from the heart, we can't miss.

GaryGary:  Founder/Owner
Many of you already know Gary.  You've seen him over the years, shooting at major concerts, and small venues throughout the Kansas City area.  You may not have met him, yet, but you've probably seen his work.  Married, with 3 kids (two in college) and working full-time, earns Gary the title of "Head Maniac".

CoryCory:  Co-Owner
Cory's our multi-tasking guru of web work and a photographer.  In addition to hooking up with Gary to get this little circus off the ground, Cory is married, works full-time, and plays with the band Sinfrastructure.

LECLeslie:  Editor/Writer
Leslie's a stay-at-home mom with nothing better to do.
Okay, okay.  She's married to a stagehand, and has a son headed off to college,  a combination that makes her a close rival to Gary's maniac status.  Leslie brings 20 years of broadcasting experience and a passion for people's stories to the mix.
(And you'd think working with two great photogs, she could get a better pic on here...)

Gary says it all when he describes the Zimm's staff..."Put us all three together and you have one normal person."
