           I can tell that there is something not quite right in my world, I can feel it. This feeling is uncomfortable, and is driving me to search for the answer to the question. The question of course is, what is the Matrix? I have been searching for this answer for some time, and I know that Morpheous has the answer. So, where is Morpheous?
          I know that the Matrix exists because today, something strange happend on my computer. Someone was writing to me on it, they had total control of my computer, and they told me that the matrix had me. Then I followed the white rabbit just like the computer told me to, and it led me to an encounter with Trinity who, by the way is a girl. When I heard of that she had cracked the IRSD base, I assumed she was a man. Anyway, I can tell she knows what the matrix is because she told me she had the same question as me, and that question led her to "him". I know she means Morpheous. She also told me that the answers are out there, so why haven't I found them yet? When will I meet Morpheous?

Today while I was at work, a man delievered a package to my desk. When I opened it, it was a cell phone, which started ringing. When I answered it I knew it was Morpheous. He told me that the agents were coming for me and that I could either follow his instructions to escape or I could let the agents take me away with them. At first I was scared so I followed his instructions, but then as I was perched on a window sill looking down I knew I couldn't listen anymore. I mean, who did Morpheous think I was? I could have died!

Since Neo refused to do what Morpheus had asked him, this is be classified as refusing the call. However, a lot of Neo's personality is shown as he first complies with Morpheus. As he starts to follow Morphues's instructions, you can see that there is promise in him to blossom into somebody great. He is willing to arise to the challenge until he is faced with death, in which case he chooses to be taken away with the agents. Up until that point however, he steps up to the challenge, which shows that although his character does develop a great deal throughout the story, the personality traits of "The One" are present deep within him from very early on.

I thought that my encounter with the agents was a bad dream, so when I discovered that it wasn't  I was deeply disturbed. Soon after I realized that I hadn't been dreaming, Trinity took me to meet with Morpheous for the first time. He told me that I could either learn the truth, but there would be no going back, or I could walk away and I would forget that any of this ever happend.
So i decided to learn the truth because I had been searching for these answers for a long time. He showed me how our human bodies were being harvested for energy and in order to keep us complacent, the Matrix was created to make us think that we were still living our lives.
He also told me that it was my destiny to save the human race from this enslavement. I am skeptical about this because if I am supposed to be this powerful why do I seem to be so normal? How can Morpheous have so much faith in me when I don't have that faith in myself?

As Neo meets with Morpheus for the first time, the viewer gets another sense that "The One" is buried deep within him and that he will want to fight for the human race. This is because when Morpheus asks him if he believes in fate, he replies, "No. I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my own life." This proves that Neo is on the same page as those with Morpheus and that this has been within him for a long time. So it seems, Neo's development is more about discovering what is already within him rather than changing himself.

Ever since I have learned about the truth,  I have had to endure many challenges, such as rescuing Morpheous from the agents. The oracle told me that I was not the one, but with each of these tasks I seem to be gaining confidence in myself. I am beginning to think that maybe she only told me that I wasn't so that I could discover that I was on my own. The more self- confidence I gain, the more easily I seem to be able to do things like fighting the agents. I used to just do whatever Morpheous told me to do because he seemed to know what he was talking about, but now I do things because I can feel that they are the right things to do. I seem to have matured in that way.

As Neo endures all these different tests, he begins to believe in himself more and more each time he prevails. The more this happens, the more he can draw inspiration from within himself, so this is really the pivotal moment of his development, because he finally begins to realize what has been within him from the beginning. The more Neo believes in himself the more powerful he becomes, which is why by the end, when he accepts that he is "The One", not even the agents have a chance against him.

As I was running from Agent Smith to try to get back to the real world, he caught up to me and shot me several times. I should have died, but I didn't. That's when i fully came to terms with who I was and what I was meant to do. I could see the Matrix for what it was all around me, and I knew these agents were no match for me. I started out as someone unsure of himself, really only doing what I was doing out of pure curiosty, sparked by wanting to know what the Matrix was, but now I have grown into a man who is sure of himself and everything he does, and I know my task is to free the humans. Now that i have matured into this person, I know I will be able to do it.
