Happy Holidays, Here we are again, less than a week from Thanksgiving, which means you are all looking for the hot buys and cool deals for your annual Christmas shopping. Never fear, we have exactly what you need...The answer is a ticket to the 2010 Snow Ball at People's Court on January 8th, 2010. This all ages event will begin at 7PM, and we will be joined by our good friends Destrophy, Mindrite, The Boston Hellmask, and Dead Horse Trauma.
Tickets at the door will be $15, however, if you are wise enough to purchase in advance you can get them for a highly discounted $10. There are several ways to get your advance tickets. The first would be by contacting Mindrite (www.myspace.com/mindrite). The second would be to order through www.iowatix.com. From what we have been told the online presale will begin no later than Tuesday, November 24th.
We have been getting a lot of requests to put together this bill and it has finally happened. So again, let's summarize. Friday, January 8th @ People's Court. This is an all ages show, pre-order your tickets through Mindrite and save $5 a piece. Index Case, Destrophy, Mindrite, The Boston Hellmask, & Dead Horse Trauma. The final piece to this puzzle is you being there. See you there!
Cheers! IC

Current mood: ecstatic
Well friends, November is upon us, and this very special November marks the 10th anniversary of the formation of Index Case! We'd like to send out our very sincere gratitude and thanks for all that have supported and been a part of the Index Case family for the past decade. Your continued support is the reason we do this. We love you all.
So where's the new record, right? We've been getting all your messages asking when the record's going to come out, and we wish we had an answer for you as much as you do, we really do. It's been three years since the self-titled record came out, and we've been through a lot during the formulation of this record.
Here's what we've been up to:
In June of 2006 we played what was our last show supporting the self-titled record, with plans to take time off from shows to begin writing the next record. Our goal with the self-titled record was for it to launch us into becoming a successful, full-time national act. For many reasons this goal was not achieved. So it was time to make an even better record and give it another go. After all, artists' truest measure of success comes only from that which they create.
We knew going into writing that we wanted to write a record that would of course be our best to date, but also something that was just undeniably good, something that would get the world's attention, as well as help us to achieve our ultimate goal, a successful career as full-time musicians. We knew that this would take time. But first, we had an identity to define as band.
Going into this record, we started with two remaining original members, and two members who had never been a part of writing an Index Case record. Forging ahead creatively as a band where every member's identity is an integral piece of the equation is not always easy. Balance must be struck between new input into the creative process, and maintaining what made the band special in the first place, to create a new identity that continues the natural artistic progression of the band.
On top of that, we all have to work full-time day jobs. We all wish Index Case could be our full-time job, and that is our ultimate goal, but at this point we don't make near enough money off Index Case to live off that alone. That's why you'll see your favorite bands put out records almost every year, they are afforded the luxury of music being their full-time job. We aren't. We have to sustain livings like everyone else. Unfortunately, having a day job is not very conducive to a musician's creativity. It is proven that fatigue is a major limitation to creativity. It's science.
And so the tunes weren't exactly popping out at lightning pace. But we were forging new ground musically that we were very happy with and we wanted to be patient with the process, we knew the end would justify the means.
And so we didn't play live for a year. Had a great time playing some shows summer '07, then back to the rehearsal studio. In fall of '07 it started to become apparent that Ryan Berrier wasn't fitting in well on the kit, and in winter we made the tough decision to let him go.
Drum auditions took some time, but we found the right man for the job in Josh Ickowitz. And so then the identity of the band had to be found again, with yet another new member joining the fold. Josh (Icky) had exactly what we were looking for in drummer. And so we made sure we took the time to integrate his personal touch as a musician into many of our already existing songs. And so the present, strongest ever line-up of Index Case was born.
By this past summer it came to our realization that we had finally written a record we were happy with. But we wanted to road test the material, see how it played live and what people thought of the new music. You gotta straighten out the kinks before you hit the recording studio. And so August brought on 10 Long Fucking Years: The Tour. The tour was a success; we had a great time, and were ready to discuss recording this record.
When we returned from tour, we lost what had been our practice space for the past 10 years, the Dex Inn. It took a bit for us to find a new space, but we are now officially in new digs. And so now we face the question of what to do next with our written record?
I know, I know, just record it already, right? Well, we want to make sure we do it right this time, and we've got a completely different climate in the music industry right now than we have had in the past. Many established artists nowadays are releasing their music on their own because there is more money in it than going through a label. Many artists on labels never see a dime from their record because the label must first reclaim the money sunk into recording, duplicating, promoting, tour support, etc. And with the sales of CDs in such a continual decline, labels often don't make that money back. So it makes sense for established artists to release there records themselves, they have a built in fan base, much of the promotion and touring takes care of itself, and they stand to make more money off their music this way.
But what does Index Case do? We could release our record on our own. Monetarily it makes sense. Whose to say how many people would hear it? We know you guys would, and we love you for it. But we want everyone to hear it. Labels help provide distribution, tour support, and promotion, necessary components in the process of breaking bands to wider audiences.
These are all things that factor into how we release this record that we think about all the time, and it's an important decision for us to make. We are still working through all our options on this thing, and our decisions will help shape and determine when you will be able to get our record in your hands.
As of December, we will begin recording this record on our own in our rehearsal space. All Index Case records have been recorded in the winter, so it only makes sense. We will record until we are happy with the end product. At that time, we will decide what our next step will be. We will keep you updated, and we hope it comes out just as fast as you do. We want you to hear the material; we know you'll love it. Chinese Democracy comes out this next week, so there must still be hope for the new IC record, right? We'll be documenting the recording process and hopefully posting clips as regularly as possible.
Thanks everyone for having so much patience with us, you're gonna love this record!
Cheers!
Index Case
P.S. If you would like to hear most of this record played live, we will be exclusively playing songs from this record next Friday, November 28th when we open the Mudvayne, 10 Years, Snot show at the Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines!
