The amazing people over at www.theinterlude.com reviewed our latest EP that we are currently giving away. Here is what they had to say.

If you know well enough, you know that I love the album "Bears!" by That Was Something. So obviously I'm going to love when the band changes their name, and seems like they are going to go down an entirely different path. This is what The Boys of Summer did. I was less than stoked. Fortunately for me, they rediscovered what made a lot of people love them in the first place. This time around, the music is a little more comfortable, and instead of one singer, we get duel vocals from guitarists Jon-Paul Bakaric and Scab.

The first thing I noticed that I loved was that they brought back the guitar tones that I loved on Bears! Granted there are some differences, the mixture of the clean piano, and the dirty guitar chords just warms my heart during these cold winter months. Also, they brought out old TWS singer Rob Weber to provide a guest vocal on the song "Things In Two's", a quick paced number that really showcases all of the band's strengths. The transitions in the song are smooth, and the key change is, while sometimes a moderately cliche, was pulled off tastefully.

"My Best Interest" is the song that gets this band signed, mark my words. The song opens with a guitar riff that pays homage to bands like Fall Out Boy and The Starting Line, going into an erratic guitar/drum combination. If you don't find yourself bobbing your head or tapping your toes to this chorus, you should probably see a doctor. My favorite part about this song though, is the duel vocals in the bridge. John Nolan and Adam Lazzara would be proud.

The song that stands out most as a growing point for the band though has to be the final song on the EP, "A Long Road Home". It's a good combination of the band they were, and the direction they tried to go down, almost too drastically. While I obviously really enjoyed this EP, the main thing that stood out to me as needing some work, are the vocals. Sometimes, it just feels like the notes are there, but not the feeling. And that's huge.

I'm sure as the band continues to grow, they will only get stronger in their musical efforts. The only question left for me to ask is: If this is What It's All About, then what's next?

Many people have been messaging us for the lyrics to the 3 songs on our page. So here it is. Thank you all very much for the constant support. We'll be releasing a new video about the making of the record, as well as a music video before the end of the year. Love you guys.

My Best Interest

You are a flower in disguise
Mission accomplished cause I wanna hide
Run and write for you into the cold nights
Sleep in bed until the morning comes alive

You are a battle in my head
A drink to take down when I'm depressed
A cure all for the medicine’s that I miss
These things that I gotta give up for you

So take your last drink and when it settles
You can find the comfort in your arms but never in your heart
Cause all those days that I wished that I could be with you
Was not good for me, was never good for me anyway

You are a case of writers block,
Blood clots in the arteries of all my hopes and dreams
Your heart is ever cold so much that I can see
My breath when I speak your name, I can feel all your pain
From all those things that you’ve done wrong

So open up your window to me
And tell me that you love me tell me im the only one
Open up your window to me
Cause I hope the sound of my name,
Makes your skin crawl, makes your bones ache
This is for all of the wrongs I cant right those scary things in the night
Those places I wanna go cause God I miss my home
If just had one more chance, I swear that I’d make it right
I swear I say all those things I never said, couldn’t say, wanted to say to you

Things In Two’s

I got these words in my head, but I can never speak them
Im on my way downtown with at least two drinks in hand
Stone cold love is for the weak baby
But your love is the only thing I see
I turn the place upside down just to find the right shoes
I only have one pair, but its just something to do
Stone cold love is for the weak baby
But your love is the only thing that i see

My pride running dry and you are not by my side
My bands not blowing up but I dont wanna give up
Sing it loud, sing it proud, sing it till
I cant count , 1234 ill be knocking at your door

She loves to call me out on things that I cannot do to well
I love the smell of dirty laundry as you throw me out of your hotel
1234 ill be knocking at your door

Things in two's dont go well, cause I cant play show and tell
But I will die in this van until someone gives a damn
Stone cold love is for the weak baby,
But your love is the only thing I see

I’ve got a pocket full of nothing, my bro's my only breath check
And I cant seem to get my self out of my own fucking head
But I wanna explore you
I wanna exploit you

A Long Road Home

I’ve been Hiding out in a bottle for three whole years now
And I want to get out, yea I wanna get out
But reality keeps telling me
That my humanity is gonna get a check now

And no this was not a plan
It was just a gift
It was just a shooting star and I grabbed hold of it
No it was not a test, it was just a space for me to reflect
A place and time where I had no regret

And I feel like I’m running now, like I’m heading for a long road home
Yeah I feel like I’m living now, like I’m heading for a long road home

And I’ve been struggling for years to keep my head up off the
ground And all I have got to show for this is all that I am left with
My past due bills and I’ve got friends, a depleted account and these string stained
hands But I’ve seen more then most from coast to coast living on the road

Tick, tock, a limerick under your breath
Its four words, yea I know what your saying
"Im always coming down" cause I am
Well I said o no, I won’t go all the way home
As long as you’re here
Home,  a place where I feel, where I feel

Current mood:  nostalgic
Hey everyone, this is Mark from TBOS. In this new chapter that all of us have just started embarking on in our band it has truly made me realize a lot of things about myself as a person, musician and as a friend. I've always thought that one of our weaknesses as a band was keeping in touch with our fans, pulling down the barriers and walls and just letting you into our world. So here I am to let you guys all know where all of our heads are at.

I know that there has been a lot of talk about the situation with Bradley leaving the band, rumors that were started and what not, as well as where the band is going to be headed next. The situation between, Bradley and the rest of the band had become so sour for so long, it was truly time for us to part ways. It was actually long overdue. The way that we met Bradley in the first place was completely in regards to the band. He sent a submission with his interest in being in the band, we loved his voice and he joined. It was all that simple. We thought thats all we needed. We would write the songs, and with his talent he would sing them and we would be golden. We were really looking for that frontman. For that voice, or that missing link we thought we needed.

Since Bradley and The Boys Of Summer have parted ways we all have been up countless nights talking about the band, in doing so we realized that none of us were truly happy in that situation with him. Friendship is so important to us all and in knowing him as long as we did, we never really became friends with him, it just seemed to never really click. Everything always seemed forced. Who we all really are as people, and as individuals never really was shown in the band because we were all constantly trying to be a band that we thought we needed to be. How could we ever expect someone else to love our band, when we didn't? When bands aren't being honest and truthful with their music, people are very smart, they can see through that. And for that, we all are deeply sorry.

With that aside, I would like promise you all that, that will never happen again. We are about halfway through writing and recording what we think to be the best material that we've ever done. The mood while working on these has been absolutely nostalgic. Not because its some groundbreaking sound, but because we're just being 100% ourselves with it. Having not only just JP and Scab's voice on the record, but their words and their heart poured into these songs is amazing. Those two have two biggest hearts in anyone that I've ever met and I know they would be there for their friends in any situation. For me personally I have the utmost respect for them, and when they sing I listen. There is just something you can't describe when your friend tells you a little something about themselves through a song.

I hope that you all will stick by us because you will not be let down. We have been filming lots of awesome video content that we shall be releasing next week. Interviews from Kyle, Scab, JP and myself. As well as footage from the studio as we work on the debut full length that will be out much sooner than you think, for a price much lower than you'd expect. We really are going to try and work on keeping in close contact with all of you through this process, so we can all celebrate together when it comes out! Thank you all so much, we will be seeing you soon.

85' Insignificant Heart Beats
I got a problem brewing in my hands
Cause I planned for adventure and lived in the moments
Burdens fell on me the same way they fell on you
But I love that we can do the things we wanna do
Indulging all our vices, accept that it is what it is
Throw it all up in the air, and let it fall into place
If we can build it up then well blow it up in the end
Cause all I wanna do is relive the moments
I used to keep it all in my head
Cause I had a dream that I wanted to share with the world
that you tried to take away
And the trouble with all of this is you will never admit
its just to easy to quit and turn your back on all your friends
I used to keep it all in my head
all my dreams and the words you said
you never leave a damn thing unsaid
That being said were over it
I got all this time and more to loose
But not another minute wasted on you
Cause you sing the blues its your only tune
with your half hearted gratitude
And wouldn’t you be proud if I fell into
A dark coma, I could pine for you
But you wont get that from me, no
No you wont get that from me, not one thing
Id draw my name into the sands
Hoping that someone would walk by it
hoping that somebody gave a shit
tree tops the vodka sprung over it
Basing my name on a wall I take the big fall
I'm running down the hall,
I have got to get over this
I have got to get over this
Cause everybody comes and goes we know
everybody thinks we need to show
A little more appreciation for their role, but we don’t

Is She Fiction? Or Is She Real
Wish, wish if you will but not for the cynic in your head
or the background noise in your bed
The one truth, that I wanna have, the one thing I cant grasp
The one person I can't get.
Is she fiction? Or is she real?
I once had a dream so bright my eyes they lit up night skies
I reached for the sun to be burned by no one but me
And now I medicate just to make time fly by
But this road is tough, and not for the faint of heart,
If you can pull out your side arms then we will push
If I could only sing it out loud, she'd know she's in my head
Doctor don't you tell anyone that she's my Achilleas heal
Cause my nights spent searching dead damp bodies on a dark street isn’t what I need
I'd love to make a entrance and a difference but im not sure how to go about it
So I sing it out, and I can sing it proud
And if you know it now, you can make it out
cause hospital morgues get more passion then I get
Cause
I’m obsessive by nature, and compulsive by most circumstance
Guided by only one thing going on in my fucking head
I’ve spent so much time chasing after one girl I'm never gonna have
I’ve spent so much time chasing after one dream that I wont get
And I’m gonna sing it loud until everyone hears me in this town
You are not the cynic inside my head, your are the background noise
You are the story of things I've left unsaid
The one truth that I wanna have, you are the one thing that I cant grasp
The one person that I cant get, you are it, the only thing I still need...
So are you fiction or are you real?
Are you fiction, or are you real?

Bradley Walden is no longer in "The Boys of Summer", we will not sink down so low to say anything bad about him. However, JP and Scab are now going to be singing for our band. We are in the studio right now writing and recording new songs. We honestly have never had more fun bouncing ideas off each other, as well as actually taking time to write lyrics that mean something to us. We have definitely hit a creative stride in writing and this is breath of fresh air for all of us. We are so excited for the future. We hope the best for Bradley and his future endeavors. The Boys of Summer are just getting started. We are posting a 2 new songs on monday. One of them will explain it all.  Stick by us. We wont let you down.
